I gave it to the King of Worms because his reasoning seemed the safest to me. Being a friend of the Emperor, I definitely wouldn't have given to any of the Iliac Bay rulers. The other option would have been the Underking, but I felt he was a bit crazy and perhaps still had a grudge against the Empire, so I didn't want to give it to him. Giving it to the King of Worms seemed the best option, because he just disappears with it and doesn't use it to cause massive harm. Even though I was a friend of the Emperor, I didn't want him to have it because that would just renew the cycle of death and destruction started by Tiber Septim. My character is a benevolent wizard, after all.

I never did. I had a game-breaking bug pop up on a MQ item, where the item never spawned. I tried to go through that portion 4 times on different characters with different saves and loads, and it always occurred.

Eventually, I just bought the Daggerfall Chronicles and read how the game was supposed to end, then played the game as a sandbox mode.

I gave it to the Emperor the 1st time (as I figured that was the "right" thing to do), but every time since I've given it to the KoW because he's so dang cool.

i kept it, and was crushed by the raging golem. without the dragonbreak, all the kingdoms were in ruins from this ending.

i thought i would be able to control it.

I gave it to the Underking, since by all accounts it was his heart to begin with, and he just wanted it to give himself a final death. My second choice would have been Gortwog... I love KoW and all, but he's already pimpin it up bigstyle, and Gortwog's always been my favourite underdog. (Underpig...?)

King of Worms is a god, that was not him. Either an imposter or his mortal version... Which is still weird since he was a lich when he became a god.

If you ask me, oblivion does not even exist.

It wasn't his mortal version, it was either an imposter, or "King of Worms" is just a title.

Regardless of the outcome of the Warp in the West, the original KoW would have been a Lich, not an Altmer. Bethesda would have a really good opportunity to mend this particular lore break in the next game by making some good indications that the "real" KoW of Daggerfall fame wasn't associated with the Oblivion version.

The first time I gave it to the Underking, after that I normally gave it to the KoW.
