Anyone tired Rift?

Post » Fri Sep 10, 2010 6:10 am

Looked and did not see a thread on page one or two, and as the game is in Head start I figured it was safe to talk about.
I was thinking of picking the game up today off steam, it looks cool but I am having a lot of fun (for the most part) in eve.

Anyone tried it so far?
Thoughts?

I played the beta, it's ok. Just what you would think it would be for a fantasy MMO.

Oh, thanks.

I am just trying to look at it from all the angles. The game its self would cost me two months of time on both my eve accounts (14.99 per eve account, 59.99 for Rift) and then I could only afford to keep two subs a month.

I manage to get about 30 hours a week, not a lot really but enough fun and time to justify the $30 a month.

I played in the closed beta about a month back or so. Really fun game with a unique character progression. There's what....Eight skill trees per class? The game also looks really good and of course there's the rifts. I think it was a stress test, but a few rifts opened and a few invasions came into a zone all at the same time. 100+ enemies and all the newbies in the zone spent the next hour fighting the seemingly endless rifts and invasions.

Was a TON of fun, granted insane experience and everyone got a good chunk of nice loot.

I tried to play the beta but I must've chosen a really bad class as I died about 10 times doing the first quest, so I ragequit and uninstalled it.

I've been the majority of the beta events, and it's a fairly solid MMO from what I've seen. A lot of people like comparing it to WoW, but I'd personally say it's a bit more like Everquest II or Vanguard (not nearly as awesome as Vanguard mind you). Overall, it's pretty decent but I will probably wait for a while after launch to see where it goes and what they improve. After getting Age of Conan day one, I've decided to never buy another MMO at launch.

I read about it and thought "wow, this sounds cool!" And then I realized it was an MMO.

I wish there were more of these fantasy RPGs - even hack-and-slash-esque ones - that had a strong single-player core, as well as an online component. Kinda like Titan Quest. But, uh, yeah, good luck to it, the MMO market seems to be pretty saturated with the handful of successes (Wow, Everquest, City of Heroes) and the scores of flailing and failed.

I'm playing it at the moment, seems pretty good so far. Having 3 talent trees available to each player may sound like a good idea that encourages alot of variety but in practise I've found it to be a little redundant. If you pick 3 similar trees you end up getting alot of the same spells just with different names and graphical effects, if you pick 3 different skill trees then you end up as a sort of "Jack of all, Master of none" character. That's just my take on it so far anyway, only got to level 16.

The constant opening of rifts has started to get a little irritating as well, not because they're not easily avoidable, it just seems to me that they should be more of a spectacle. They're so common they're boring.

I'm playing it, pretty good imo. I can make the cleric I want now.

There is no bad class in this game, but it's rather tough before level 10 when you got so few skills. The mobs don't scale down because you don't have enough soul points down the tree.
