The main 3-4 factions

Post » Fri Sep 10, 2010 8:17 am

Okay, so I've established I'm siding with Mr.House, but I have to wonder, will it be possible for me to work side by side with NCR every now and then? Say the Archimedes II, if I side with Mr. House, I might still want to help them repair the Satellite back to functioning order (Assuming it will not be used for malice). But basically, will we be allowed to side with with one faction while fleetingly aiding a different faction?

Pretty sure you can flip flop between sides. J.E. said something recently about "mixed reputations" that I think would answer your question better than I can.

Edit: Found it.

Neutral/Unknown is not a reputation you can maintain in F:NV unless you avoid doing contentious things. There are actually two separate reputation axes for each group/area: Fame and Infamy. If you do things that help the group, you get Fame. If you harm the group, you get Infamy. The relationship of these two scores determines your overall reputation. So if you do a bunch of good and bad things, you aren't unknown; you have a mixed reputation.

This was done specifically to avoid the feeling that your actions "wash out".

Really? Geez, F:NV is constantly coming out to be the perfect Fallout game yet

This is good news, cause I won't betray Mr. House (BLASPHEMY) but I wouldn't mind aiding the NCR crush the CL.

It is Fallout, not the 10am Kansas City Express. Of course you'll be able to chop and change.

Another J.E. gem:

So we tried to bring that back, and also the reputation system is very important for us. What you do with different groups impacts your standing with them, and gives you a way to understand your position in the overall world, affects how quests open up, how people react to you, in even with minor things. For example, in my latest play through, I started off with a good reputation with the NCR, then I got a bad rep so I was hunted by NCR Rangers who were sent to kill me, and then I got back into their good graces again, and I was walking around one of their camps and one of their soldiers said "at least Caesar's Legion know what side they want to take". And it's this kind of little reactivity to my character that's kind of cool, I have a mixed reputation with this group and they're responding to it. We really tried to emphasise that stuff in the game and we hope people enjoy it.

In other words, they put a lot of thought and effort into this.

It was even said that you can work for all sides and play them against each other for maximum profit. Sort of an independent route.

Though they said eventually the factions would find out, and the consequences wouldn't be pretty.

Yes and no. It has also been said that if you do that too long, they take notice. And don't appreciate it. At all.

If they DID appreciate it. I'd have to think every faction would have had to much rad exposures.

That would be scary, imagining a three pronged wasteland Mafiaesque styled Commission out to kill you. :cryvaultboy:

You can flip flop a bit, but neither group will appreciate it. You can work with multiple groups that don't cross paths or don't have conflicting ideologies, but you best pick a side when dealing with opposing factions.

I want to wage a one man war on all of the factions, preferably letting the best one come out on top.

What if he is some psychotic madman? I want to side with him if he's some Howard Hughes type psycho, but I won't if he's some killing psycho like Tenpenny. :obliviongate:

Well as far as yet we dont know what house has planned. If he isn't posing a threat to NCR than I don't see why not. In the case that he is hostile towards the NCR than you will be able to use a disguise to get in.

I like the mystery surrounding him and all too.. But, why does everyone have such a fixation on him? Don't mind it, but I'm curious.

Because the unknown excites and entices the human soul, it's the air of mystery and intrigue.

@Name- I can't see House opposing NCR directly if at all. I mean, unless things have changed between now and E3, there are no Caesers Legion on the Strip, just Civilians and NCR troops.

Mr House sounds just like a big scoop of cliché.
Currently I have no interest in him what so ever and can't wait to torture him with the new arsenal of weapons.
But if he surprises me and turns out to be pretty cool then I guess I'll just give him a quick and painless death.

So you can do a scarface type of playthrough? you know where everybody is out to get you, and then one night in your mansion, Mr houses mercenary attack!

I think that the developers will give you the option of playing as a complete opportunist, working for whoever you pays the best at each circumstances. But at the ending no one will really like you if you do that. After all, this is a Fallout game. I think the point is that you are who you chose to be, but at the end of the day you will have to be ready to accept the price of what you do.
