Love life music

Post » Fri Sep 17, 2010 6:01 am

So I have been in a bad mood for the past week or two, and I think it's partly due to the music I listen to. I always have music playing and it is all either angry or sad or there is a sad memory attached to a song. I need more happy, upbeat, love your life songs. I don't care who the artist is, or what genre it is, I just need something to cheer me up, so recommend me something.

Well firstly, what genre of "sad music" are you listening to? There's 'happy' and 'sad' versions of about every single music type in the world.

Second, is there a specific memory or unhappy feeling you get with this particular music (relationships, loss of loved ones, etc.)?

Try techno. Daft punk are good. They're really good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0p_yo_VGOSw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9MszVE7aR4

The juxtaposition of a happy upbeat tune with extremely depressing lyrics as done by the Eels have always cheered me up.

Then there's always They Might be Giant's 'NO!' album. Here is a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz7GsR67mSo about balloons.

Techno is good. I love how pure music like that needs no lyrics to really express a feeling. Classical music and acoustic music works as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK1mLIeXwsQ is one of my favourite songs. I guess the title might be the exact opposite of what you want though :P

Trust me, I should know. 80% of my music is deadbeat and depressing LOL :'(
------------
Here's what I've been listening to to make myself feel better lately:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Sj5_WITMpA

Some stoner band from California which I didn't like at first, but now I can say their silly sound is one of the reasons why I endured the last few months without falling into the winter blues. I wanna do all the things she does.

The Doolittle album by Pixies has some very quirky and upbeat sounds, too.

The Bambi Molesters I discovered only very recently and they're... kind of really fun. Can't go wrong with surf rock as an antidepressant. :D

Their other songs are a bit better, but that one is pretty upbeat.

A couple of older songs occurred to me. "Higher Love" by Steve Winwood. "In Time" by Robbi Rob (from the "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" movie).

"Return to Innocence" by Enigma. "Adiemus" by the group of the same name. "Circle of Life" from the Broadway version of "The Lion King".

Definitely "Baba Yetu". The group Stanford Talisman has several upbeat songs like that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi-LnODE8KA

"In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. Also his "Solsbury Hill".

"Tonight is what it means to be young" from the movie "Streets of Fire". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NB_YKpo3qA8

I love this version of "Eyes on the Prize", at the end of the movie "Green Card". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B26Za27U248

Ha! When I read the OP I immediately thought of posting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZIzDJ1qZSc. Oddly enough even though the lyrics are depressing I find the tune and singing along lots of fun.

What? no Don't Worry; Be Happy yet? :slap: to all of you! ;)

Also, how about, I read the thread title, and took it the wrong way: lovelife rather than loving life, so Air Supply came to mind

Oh, and how about the Beach Boys?

There's no way you can listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnP3UNpu63o and not feel great. It's the cast of Nitro Circus and [censored] jumping into a lake on bikes via a huge dirt ramp, and the song playing just makes you feel good.
