Taking Mod Compatibility requests

Post » Sun Sep 19, 2010 12:01 pm

Hello everyone! I've recently found time (graduated college!) to return to Morrowind modding after what seems like an eternity. I plan on working on recreating some mod patches I made back in the day, as the sites that I hosted them on have long ago removed them. These were all compatibility patches (for example Better Caldera has an issue with CoM). If anyone has mods they'd like to be compatible (within reason: I'd rather not move an entire continent so it's compatible with another land-adding mod  ) please request. In addition to my return to modding, I'm also introducing how to mod Morrowind to my cousin, so I'll be using these to train him. Thus, you'll be contributing to the modding community as well :celebration:

1. Pirate's Booty & Tamriel Rebuilt compatibility

It would be awesome if you could fix Booty Island (http://mods.jo-ge.net/mw/pirates/)
Booty Island looks like really fun pirate-themed mod. But unfortunately the Booty Island land conflicts with the gigantic landmass from Tamriel Rebuilt (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=7040)

I can't recall which of the islands #1, #2, or #3 conflict: http://mods.jo-ge.net/mw/pirates/location.htm
It might just be isle #2.

2. Book Rotate & Tamriel Rebuilt compatibility

The Book Rotate mod comes with a utility (BRPatch.exe) that can fix any esp so the books within the esp are compatible with Book Rotate features. But unfortunately this utility doesn't run on esm's files - like those that come with Tamriel Rebuilt.

Someone already made a compatibility patch allowing the books from Tamriel Rebuilt to have the scripts that let them rotate like Book Rotate books do. It's here: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7481
Unfortunately this has a script error and I've tried to fix it myself but it in TESCS it runs into another script compilation error because some NPC was removed from Tamriel Rebuilt. Some people posted about these problems, it's not clear if anyone really got it working .Also, I have no idea how old or how good this patch is or even if it's based on the newest Book Rotate version.

So it would be great if you could fix this existing patch - or possibly remake it.

I would love to see Piratelord's Redesigned Vivec get some patching love - really fantastic mod that can obviously cause any number of conflicts since that area gets touched so often.

Hi Spiffyman - I'm not sure (from reading your post) if you prefer recreating the "lost" patches over just getting them back, but if you don't, I guess some of the files can be dug up somewhere. Have you checked the wayback machine already? The patches may even be small enough to be stored there. Otherwise, I'm sure some of us have your patches in their collection.

I'm not sure how much work this would be but http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=119915&id=6068 begs for a patch so it works with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=109027&id=801.

Actually, that would be pretty awesome if someone had those patches. I've never heard of this wayback machine though.

Regarding PirateLords's mods. I'll definitely be looking at the redesigned Vivec, though I think I may have worked with that before in an old patch... If not, I'll be working with that because that was one mod I also loved.

later on I may try moving landmasses, as I remember messing with that before. But I also remember that being a lot of work. I'll add it to my list, but I'm starting smaller (though if I can get back my old mods, my list got much shorter :foodndrink: )

awww. I checked the links to some of my patches. They don't seem to be archived. Bummer

If there is anyone has my old patches, I would be very pleased if they could pass them along. Also, is there any specific mods that conflict with Redesigned Vivec (so I have a starting point :D )?

Can you give the filenames (or a link to an archived site where I can get the filenames from)? Would make it easier to find them (if I have them).

Well, it appears that may be harder said than done. The major thread where I posted all my patches was a thread called something along the lines of City Expansions which has since been deleted (which is almost 2 years prior to now, so it was old  ). So rather than having you drudge through your files to find it, I'll just play it by ear.

On a side note, as I rumaged through my inbox, I stumbled upon an exchange with you from way back when Psyringe. I'd like to thank you again for helping me with a mod I worked back then. Seems you're still in the hobby of helping people out!

Returning on topic here, I was wondering if anyone had tried http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1176610-rel-morrowind-rebirth-beta/. I saw this thread and seeing as it smooths out a lot of land, could see how this my conflict with town mods. Would it be worth my time to check out some more popular city mods and attempt to make them compatible?
