Creating a custom Head Mesh

I've been trying to create some minor adjustments to the default head mesh of fallout 3's characters for a new race. When I make the changes and export the nif, however, the new mesh will not show facial animation in game or the G.E.C.K. (blinking eyes, emotions, mouth moving, etc.). I have the EGM, TRI, and EGT of the default head mesh named correctly and in the correct directory. Please help me with this, I really want my character to be able to express emotion! :(
