Making a Statue

Post » Mon Sep 20, 2010 12:34 pm

I'm looking for a tutorial on how to make a statue. I know I came across one before...I just can't remember where.

However, if no one has a link to it, I would be glad to have some instruction/advice in this regard. I want to make a daedric statue of Jyggalag, just to be clear about what I want to do...

Are you using Blender or Max? I don't know of a tutorial (although that certainly doesn't mean there is none), but it's very easy to create a statue, even more so for creatures. Just import the Jyggylag mesh together with his skeleton into the modeling program you use. Then move the bones to get the pose you want. Finally export your statue. If you want collision or a special texture (like a stone texture that looks similar to the other Daedric statues) you just have to look at one of the many collision/texture tutorials.

^I'm using Blender.

Yeah, I mentioned it over at TES Alliance and Darkrider said that he remembered seeing such a tutorial too, but he no longer knew where to find it. So our tutorial remains elusive...

Thanks for the info. I'm still learning my way around Blender, and I'm waiting for a new guide to it to come in (it was published Nov 30, but amazon keeps giving me delay notices, so now I won't get it until after Christmas). So I'll see what I can do. The tutorials online are generally very helpful, both at TES Alliance and the Construction Set Wiki, so I shouldn't have too much of a problem...

I've got a couple poses of Jyg made if you need them just PM me and I'll forward them to you - ( http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc189/JDFanning_bucket/Armor%20Displays/jygposes.jpg ) -- The Nif s currently have no havok but I can add it if you want -- I have several made of the varius armors (for my One Stop Armors mod ) and of each creature. ( http://s212.photobucket.com/albums/cc189/JDFanning_bucket/Armor%20Displays/ ) -- Also if you need a specific pose let me know and I can make it for you (if you run into problems -- I use MAX though so not really sure of the needed steps in Blender) - But if you need some help with getting them done let me know.

In Max - I import all of the pieces and also one of the animations - forward to the pose I want (or move them manually using the bones) - select all of the parts excluding the skeleton - and export selected to export the pose (not sure if Blender works the same)

EDIT :
Had some free time so made collision for them and uploaded the 2 poses if you want them -- http://www.4shared.com/file/sDxvsHjo/Jygposeswcol.html --- They have not been tested in game but should be working properly (I also simplified the collision shape a bit so it is not using too many vertices so it should not effect performance if you have a few of them in the scene !) Feel free to use them if you want.

Oh wow! Thanks JDFan. I'll grab those right now.

Either of those poses should work, but I'll keep you informed if I need any help or if I get any special ideas for poses.

Tested them in game and something was wrong with the collision (could walk through it etc.) -- So I fixed the settings and retested and they work properly now --- http://www.4shared.com/account/file/yqZYGsGH/JygPosesFixedCol.html
