Flying on Water: Crazy parkour stunts

Post » Tue Sep 21, 2010 12:39 pm

Well, people are accepting that everything under 'Brink' has been discussed, but there's one subject we haven't touched on before or since; parkour, which I would venture to say comprises a core part of its unprecedented individuality. So it's all up to you here, folks, what's the craziest damn stunt you're willing to ace with SMART?

As for me, I'm going to see if I can leap from a tall structure and walljump my way down between two buildings to bury my boots in someone's skull. Or play stepping stones on people's heads, if SMART allows this level of physical interaction. Whatever.

Doing sort of a Ninja Gaiden style wall to wall to jump climb while shooting at a guy.

I know, isn't it? I've been doing parkour for a long time now and I can tell you that a lot of that stuff is as unbelievably crazyly difficult as it looks, specifically 0:44 - 0:49

While ive always enjoyed the spectacle of parkour and how it helps an individual kinesthetically, mentally, and physically. I see it to some degree as a show off "Look at dees big rims!" sort of way. Instead of "Im gonna walk down this sidewalk" it's "Im gonna 8 FRONT FLIPS down this sidewalk!" kinda thing.

Is there a rift between the parkour people? Like some people are more inclined to use it where necessary and some use it 20 time to get out the front door in the morning?

2 different things actually. The show off is actually freerunning. Freerunning is more of the WOW factor and Parkour is more speed and mobility.

Take a look at a group I'm actually friends with. Great guys.

I'm nowhere near their level, but lets just say I'll be pushing the limits in Brink.

That was friggin' sweet! My favourite part is when that guy jumps on top of, then slides down that ramp. Way more epic than my Gym class xD

I can't wait to slide on my back while shooting. I could easily spend countless days freerunning around the Arc without any combat. Brink is seriously going to raise the bar for all games from here on in.

Well, it's Freerunning after all.
And basicly everything in that video is not possible in BRINK.

very nice video! Not all the stuff was really difficult to do, but he(you?) did it very fluidly. Next time I hear someone ask if parkour is all about flips and crazy aerials. Ill show them this video.

I'm gonna try to recreate what The Bug did in the cinematical trailer where he turns around, slides on his back, shoots, then either backflip off or just jump off and turn after I'm done shooting.

Actually some people are quite smug about it, you're right. There are some people who do it to show off, but when it comes to parkour (which is actually different to free running, but it's not that big of a deal to anyone) the community doesn't really care how you go about it. It's not competitive at all, it's like drawing or painting or playing music to a lot of us, and those who get into it to "be the best" sort of miss the point. Being "best" makes little sense, as there is no such thing as being good or bad, everyone has their own style.

That's not me, it's just the best actual Parkour video on Youtube without any fancy Freerunning stuff inbetween.

Also Parkour is not ment to be difficult, it's ment to be effective. http://blane-parkour.blogspot.com/2007/04/dilution.html is an interesting (and sort of related) blogpost about how Parkour has changed in the past years.

My abilities in Parkour are more http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmaY4TRgIXI. ;)
(Note: I'm not in that video either.)

Sadly, the only real thing in that video was the fire rate of Dynasty.
