Erm *cough* were neutron bombs invented in FO universe?

Well, according to this FO2 holodisk, neutron bombardment was at the very least used in power plants:

The notion of New Zealand being nuked is a tireless joke around here. Even considering the premise of a Fallout universe, NZ's involvement in an armed exchange between China and the US should be akin to the Korea War. Unlike Australia who boast a more considerable military and could potentially aid the US with its uranium supplies, all NZ can offer is a small detachment that would not have contribute much threat to the PLA by themselves. Besides, the minute Washington goes silent from the Great War, Wellington will cease all military actions against China, since there's no way NZ can take part in an overseas theater on their own. Therefore, there really is not a single strong reason to send a nuke to NZ, unless they're interested in mutating our sheep.

The effect of a neutron bomb, from what I read in Wikipedia, describes the effect of the bombs that fell on DC as described by the Ghouls of Underworld, and explains some of the symptoms.

As for why nuke NZ - Plenty of room for factories, resorce collection, and other ways to fuel the US war machine - remmember with a 50's style arsenal not reduced by START, etc, running out of targets is the problem - not running out of nukes.

Our biggest resource is renewable energy - you can't really power a nation as distant as the US with that. Even with our number one industry (dairy), the most we can fuel the US war machine is to partially provide their dessert supplies - maybe. Secondly, if there's going to be a US military industry or presence in Australasia, it would be in Australia not in NZ since they are much bigger and resource richer, as well as geographically closer to Asia.

If you live in NZ as long as I have, the only reason you can see anyone nuke NZ is do so out of spite - no matter what parallel universe that is. Having said that, I am inviting everyone to come down here to watch the fireworks for the next nuclear holocaust. :nuke:

Obviously the factories would be be pre-existing BEFORE the nukes. Not as a means of Urban Renewal.

Hypothetically speaking, if I were in charge of nuclear weapons resources for a US that is engaged in a war with China, NZ would be pretty close to the top of my "strategically important" countries. Bomb-laden planes, missiles, etc. coming from NZ would not only be approaching from a different angle, but would also be arriving much sooner than the bulk of the ordnance.

Again, hypothetically speaking, if I were in charge of selecting targets for a China engaged in war with the US - any US-friendly countries within a certain range (whatever the range for the most accurate missiles) would be pretty much a no-brainer.

Sorry New Zealand, in the Fallout Universe, you're probably also a radioactive wasteland.

Yup. Antarctica deffinately isn't a worthy nukable (<-that a word?) target. Just a bunch of enthusiasts (100-200 tops at one time?) sitting there doing experiments.
Then again, those guys would've probably starved to death. So... ugh.
Unless one can envision some scenario in which vault technology is (was) tested there and well those guys were left unnuked (<-THAT a word?) with a bunch of prototypes... Woah, sounds cool for a FO8 plot - a pseudo-vault in the middle of the ice desert! And now, advanced and unscaved,united... the Antarcticans march in!!!

You guys have it wrong about neutron weapons. They are not just intended for just taking out tank divisions. They are designed to produce an extremely high burst of radiation, but not blast effect. This radiation also dissipates very quickly. The purpose of this is to eradicate the local population, yet leave structures intact, and allow occupation troops to move in soon afterwards..

However, Tank Divisions was one of the key priorities in the design of this weapon.....

Its much like how Asprin can be used to cure a headache, and manage heart disease.
