What props would you like to see in new vegas?

Post » Wed Sep 29, 2010 10:21 am

Yeah, NV only used those letters to spell "Mayor" in Nipton, and nothing else. That was one of the most handy props in the GECK, why would they not leave those in? In fact, why not leave all of the assets in and save us modders the headache?

wow I didn't even realize I put R in there twice duh

Right on Urge
I don't know a lot about programing but it was more work to take stuff out of the GECK ? Even if it wasn't I can't imagine it being hard to put all the letters in since they existed already

Oh it's no problem to actually put all the resources back in, I still have all the meshes and textures from FO3 on my harddrive, it's against the EULA to transfer those assets to NV though. Which is precisely why I'm so dissapointed that so many usefull assets were left out of the game.

yuk...that's what these guys are wearing on there heads--- > :intergalactic:

Anyway could you make the letters of the alphabet so we can use them each separately as to make our own signs, FO3 GECK had all of them but NV only has A,R,M,O,R,Y :banghead:

thank you

Yeh I only got the nv geck up and running for a very short time but this was one of the first things that I noticed =/

I'll give it a shot, shouldn't take too long, and I think I can use the textures from the FO3 files as they're the same aren't they?

As for your question I don't know but as Urge said there is a EULA legal issue

@ thejanitor:

There's one that I REALLY need right now is a nice, good 'ol Poker table! I've messed around with the wooden tables from the Point Lookout DLC and played with some layers in their texture just to see if I could get just the top of the table to turn red or green (sort of like a table topper you can get.) However, mine look like total rotting Bighorner azz and certainly aren't suitable to use, lol. But, I do believe a skilled modeler (I am NOT) could take the base model for these tables, and edit it and they would work great for a proper poker table. (The legs and all are perfect, it's just the top that's needing work.)

The top of the table has a rough bumpy kind of surface to it that needs to be flattened. And it also has some ugly scratches that I believe may be put there by the model as well. Those need to be removed also. Then a simple texture for the top basically like the felt you see on the vanilla clean pool tables would be perfect. So for someone with a little skill I don't think it would be much of a challenge. (But I could easily be wrong as I've never done any modeling.)

I'm at the office right now and can't look up the exact object info, but they are the round and oval tables in the pics here: http://ypdesign.com/fnv/bucks/bucks.htm

The tables are the next to last picture and 2 up from that one.

EDIT: I do remember though that the models are in the DLC4 resources and should be under furniture. But I also seem to remember there being something weird about how they were named or something. I'll look when I get home and post the correct path and names.

Thanks!

Hey Balok,

I don't mind doing a quick retex for you but you might find you get a more satisfying result by doing it yourself =] Unless I miss my guess, the scratches on the table only look 3d because of a thing called a normal map (sorry I'm unsure of how much you know already about texturing).

A good guide to normal mapping can be found http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/236994-tut-normal-map-plugin-for-beginners/ =]

I only say this because as I already mentioned, NV still isn't playing ball, and so you'd have to reroute texture paths in nifskope anyway so it'd probably be just as much effort to make a quick texture yourself.

BTW for a felt texture, all you need to do is find some felt, take a photo (or google image search "felt texture"), then paste the photo over the existing texture in an image editing program (such as GIMP). Then scale and colour accordingly.

Hope this helps =]

Thanks for responding!

As I mentioned, I messed around with that texture a little, but mine look horrible. But I don't believe I exported a normal map with mine but just left the vanilla one loaded in nifscope. I even took the pics I have of my own poker table and tried to layer that texture in to see what I could come up with, but it didn't look to good, lol.

One problem I had was that the flat area between the legs of the table seem to use the same texture that the surface of the table top uses. So when I changed the color of the table top that bottom part also changed color as well. That won't really work for what I would like to do but I'm so new to all this stuff I don't know how to change only the top and leave the bottom part alone, lol.

Like I said, it's just a thought and if you had the extra time to give it a go that would be great, but if not I completely understand. I can live with the vanilla table, but for the poker area of the private casino I'm building it would be nice to have more of a proper table but not mandatory.

If you did come up with something, it's no problem at all for me to pull up my model in nifscope and change it to point to the new texture. I think I've got a handle on that as I've made myself about 20 new framed pictures for decorating.

Thanks again!

Let's see if I can't think of anything I'd like to have...

1.) Broken, unusable furniture and 'clutter' items... couches, chairs, tables... anything like that. Things which one could use to make a suitably 'ruined' looking structure. It's amazing how few resources there are out there for such things, considering the setting of the game and all.

2.) Appliances. Microwave ovens, blenders, 50's era electric mixers... that kind of thing. One of those big freezers people keep in their basemants... the ones with the opening lids and all that jazz... those would be pretty nice, too. It gets tiring to see the same Grocery Store freezer all over.

3.) Lighting Fixtures. More varieties of lamps, chandeliers, and wall sconces would be nice.

4.) Non Claw-Foot Bathtubs... perhaps even a classic hot-tub.

5.) Neon-Light Letters, for creating custom Vegas Strip signs. Perhaps in different colors.

A few more ideas:

1.) Counter-tops with holes cut out so that you can fit the metal sink in them.

2.) Alarm Clock models of various sorts... mostly classic, obviously.

3.) A shower stall model or two would be nice...

That's a pretty nice looking card table, there... definitely going to enjoy putting one of those in each of my houses.

It may or may not be what Balok was looking for... but it certainly does fit the bill as far as back room poker games and Friday Night Texas Hold 'Em Stock Room Tourneys go. Nice work. Very nice work. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed for a counter with a hole in it! >.<

Why didn't Bethesda or Obsidian think of that?! Hell, why didn't they MAKE a kitchen sink?!

For an obsessive compulsive person like me, it's crazy-making. T_T

Are you still up to some suggestions? I was thinking maybe some kind of an hand held flag(NCR? Legion?) like the one used by soviet soldiers in WW2? :)

Or somehow "shrink" the flag pole and make it usable?

I have a few more for the list, just in case you're willing/able:

1.) Cooking utensils and etcetera, such as: Broiler pots, flippers, spatulas, meat thermometers, slow cookers, classic metal tongs, cookie sheets, etc.

2.) Unbroken mirrors... I don't care if they reflect or not.

3.) A proper, dual-basin kitchen sink... which would hopefully fit into the hole in the counter I asked for previously. ^_^

4.) A cigarette lighter, preferably of the metal flip-top variety as in classic Fallout titles.

5.) Non-flat, double-sided folders and file envelopes... something movable which could be turned into a miscellaneous item without appearing 'strangely'.

Anyhow, that's all I've got for now... I'll be sure to pop in with more as they come to me. Even if you don't use any of my ideas, keep up the excellent work. I'm definitely satisfied with everything you've done so far.

Yes! Yes, that is precisely what I had in mind... thank you for pointing those out to me.

I'd still love a kitchen sink, though... maybe some more pots and pans... miscellaneous crap to make the world feel less game-like... that sort of thing.

-Ladies Handbags. Suitcases make for good clutterboxes but with the staggering amount of ladies bags in the real world I am honestly surprised no handbags survived the nuclear holocaust. Same thing could be said for shoes. Any man who has ever been shopping with a woman knows that a woman never has enough shoes but allways a lack of closetspace.
-Tobacco Vending machines. In the 50ies and 60ies they were more common than soda-dispensers.
-Shaving cream/Hairspray cannisters. Could dub as a new explosive component.
-Where are the burger joints? Steak-houses? Football fields? Football Field with a boxing ring in the middle? (Think "Escape from New York"/LA").
