Is there a script that handles Auto Save?

Post » Fri Oct 01, 2010 11:20 am

While poking around in the ASU scripts, I figured out how to get rid of the message that was displayed everytime it did a save. I'd like to do the same thing with the game's auto-save but I can't seem to find a specific script that handles that, at least not one with any sort of obvious name. Is this something that's been hardcoded or is that command buried in some obscurely named script somewhere that I have yet to find?

Autosaves on events such as travel and rest are hard-coded, as far as I'm aware. It'd be best to disable them though, due to inherent issues with autosaving instead of using "hard" saves.

That's why I'm using ASU, it's my backup. I always make it a point to delete one save each session as well so there's a rotation of new saves. Frankly, after hearing about this same issue with Oblivion, I think the problems are overblown. I've always used auto-saves with that game and rarely had a problem. If I did, I had a Streamsave as a backup. I was using hard saves with this game until just recently, since I thought there was a problem with them in my game. But it turns out it was your CASM mod. After awhile it was causing absurdly long delays in my game, like up to a minute. Since using just the game's auto saves and ASU, I haven't any problems with that, and I'm greatly enjoying the convenience of not having to open up my menu every few minutes. As for the message, I did find a work around. I removed the text message by adding a single space instead, then told the DarN UI not to show the message brackets. So no more Autosaving messages.

It's ironic really. The reason why I wanted to have an auto-saver mod running was because my game has a tendency to crash every so often. But now that I have ASU set up and Auto-Save working, that rarely happens now. It's been hours since my game has crashed. I'm wondering if having my Auto-Save shut off was actually causing problems for me, since my crashes quite often occurred as I was transitioning. Perhaps the game was expecting to do an Auto-Save but got confused because it wasn't allowed to.
