is it possible to make cyrodill extinct?

Post » Sat Oct 02, 2010 12:16 am

since things dont respawn...and neither do NPc's...
techniclally if you go on a spree, can't you end all life in the land of cyrodill?
i dont like the idea of it, and i wont do it on my account, but other than goblins and bandits that may respawn in dungeons...can't you technically get rid of all life?

has anyone done it?

Not unless you're on the PC. Almost all quest-related NPCs are set as essential. Some lose it, some gain it, but a lot of NPCs remain essential forever. If you're on PC, you can set it so no one is essential, in which case, yes, you can kill everyone, with the exception of the respawning bandits. And apparently guards.

Almost all the enemy NPCs (like marauders and necrodudes and such) respawn.

As Velorien said, many of the friendly NPCs are tagged as unkillable so they don't screw up quests.

'Generic' NPCs respawn. These include: Legion sodiers, Imperial foresters, City guards, Black Horse Courier Riders.

So you can't really do it (without mods or lots of command console use) and you are wise that you don't like the idea of it anyway. There are not enough NPCs in Cyrodiil as it is.

I'm not sure where you got this info, but it's not all accurate. Almost everything in the game will respawn every 3 days, provided you haven't been to a particular cell before then. It's one of the biggest complaint of the game in fact, something Bethesda remedied with Fallout 3.

I tried to do it once. Since guards and other generic NPCs respawn, I wasn't able to. I did end up getting a rather high bounty as a result, though. http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3407/sirkillsalotstatsjpg.jpg

On PC, you can also disable the "Respawn" flag, along with the "Essential" one, and remove NPC's from levelled lists. So yes, it's pretty much possible to extinct Cyrodiil, if you really want to.

Many people have tried this on Oblivion and Fallout 3. Most find it fun until the novelty wears off, and then the world becomes very quiet and boring.

Just make sure you dont kill off the master level marksman trainer. I, unfortunately, have done that.
How was I to know? It was dark and raining, and she was wearing a bandit outfit.

I have a character called The Destroyer. I've basically killed everyone you can possibly kill in Oblivion. The special NPCs I've killed multiple times (unconscious once counts as killed.) Unfortunately you can't kill off all life in the game, as yeah they respawn. Killing all guards etc in one town counts as a destroyed settlement. And really what sort of a town is it going to be anyway, populated by guards and no real people mwuhahaha. Though it'd be nice if you could burn buildings by throwing a torch at them. That'd be awesome, and a great addition to roleplaying! I did the same in Morrowind, the difference being special NPCs CAN be killed and you have the option to continue the game as is. There also I killed everyone I could but I actually had to leave certain individuals alive to supply me with stuff, no doubt they had been forced to supply The Destroyer's army or die lol. I will probably do the same with Skyrim as The Destroyer continues his killing rampage through the world of Tamriel. :D

Like others above have said, the guards to respond, and important NPCs never die...... But you could kill all the useless NPCs. Cryodiil would be awfully lonely then, though... :(

 Indeed. Sir Killsalot turned Cyrodiil into a necromancer's dream, with plenty of fresh corpses to reanimate. Of course, any necromancer that tried...well, you get the idea.

how quickly do imperial guards respawn??? because, as the grey fox with the difficulty all the way down, I've litterally gotten my bounty into a few million septims just killing guards in the Imperial city and they ALWAYS KEEP COMING.

By default, everything in the game is set to respawn every 72 hours, or 3 days. That value gets affected if you visit a cell before that 72 hours is up, as the timer is then reset to 0. So if there's an area that you visit frequently, it may never respawn itself. Some areas don't work that way though, like the merchant's cells, which always respawn every 3 days. And I suspect the guards do as well.

I like the fact that you have not been in jail, you haven't stolen or pick pocketed anything, no trespassing but you show no discretion towards murdering all the people of Cyrodill hahahaha

Not possible. One night when I was playing for one reason or another I got annoyed and decided to go on a killing rampage in Bruma. Took a while to take out the guards and sometimes npcs would jump in the fight to help me or the guards and end up dead. By the time I made it into the enterrior of the castle I ran into NPC's that are essential and just would get knocked out then get back up and start fighting again. Same thing in Chorrol think I tried killing the fighters guild master before the Bruma thing didn't turn out as I expected.
Also I didn't save before I went on a killing spree and realized I lost about 4 hours of accomplishments in that game :banghead:
I wouldn't of cared about the save if I could of killed the nobility, was a rather bone headed move on my part forgetting about the unkillable npcs though.

 Why steal at all when nobody in Cyrodiil has anything as good as what you've already got? And it's kind of hard for guards to throw you in jail when they're...y'know...dead. :dead:
