On the subject of Monsters

Post » Sat Oct 02, 2010 8:20 pm

After playing a little bit of Morrowind, and having played countless hours of Oblivion, I noticed the huge difference in monsters and baddies. Morrowind had some of the strangest, ugliest, although fairly unique, monsters that I can remember. Where as Oblivion had mostly generic ( though still cool ) monsters more common to fantasy we're used to seeing.

So from what we already know ( I dont know the list of confirmed baddies ) what kind of pin cushions can we expect in this game?

Cliff Racers

Edit: This may just be rampant speculation and wild guessing.

I'm not sure whats actually being developed over at Bethesda, but i'm hoping they move back towards Morrowind's unique culture/creatures/monsters and away from the typical fantasy.

Hopefully some unique things that haven't been seen before, not just trolls, spriggans, etc.

Some things that are unique, but appropriate to the setting. Oblivion definitely went way too generic in setting when compared to Morrowind. The only things I can think of that were unique were the land dreugh and the spider daedra. Everything else seemed kinda...uninspired and unoriginal, I guess. Even the Uderfrykte Matron, the best creature ever, didn't even look unique (Grats if you got that)

Wonder if we'll see the appearance of the Uderfrykte Patron this time around?

Well, it looks like Draugr and Horkers are back in, so there's some Morrowind beasties at least.

But I really hope we get some new, weird and unique creatures. http://www.imperial-library.info/content/fight-three-snow-whale-and-dirtbird would be a good start!

Those things sound weird, but cool.

Mudcrabs. The people of Skyrim need something to talk about.

Besides that I just hope the monsters will put up a decent fight this time... :toughninja:

i just want size difference. it is boring to have everything about your height...you get more emotion and strategize more with huge monsters because that are generally scarier. two worlds was good in that there were huge stone dragons you could stumble upon out of no where so you had to watch where you went

I wonder how much Daedra will be encountered ingame? There were plenty in Morrowind, and obviously more in Oblivion - but will there be Daedra left over from the Oblivion crisis?

As some one else said, a change in the size would be cool. It is nice for a change of pace to fight a huge beastie. I saw the pic of the giant spider in the GI and that thing looked massive.

Is there a difference between a fleshy skeleton and a zombie?

They're called Draugr. They're actually more like ice mummies, like Otzi. Skin is basically shriveled up over the bones. But so they aren't the "unnnngh...brains" level of zombies. More like...viking mummies.

I'm interested in seeing Mammoths. I always wanted a big creature with huge health. But yea, we'll see.

On top of what we already know is in I'd like spriggan, horkers, sea serpents, werewolves, volkihar, riekling, bears, boars, faeries, wisps and basically a whole bunch of easten european/Norse mythological monsters and plenty of ambient ones too (mammoths. Deer, horses, foxes, fish. Birds rabbits etc)

I wonder if there will be unique finishing moves for killing every creature. Especially for dragons... It will be interesting to see if they can top dragon age in that department...
