Oscars

Good lord, Anne Hathaway was unbearable.

I thought she was better than James Franco, who might as well have been replaced with a piece of cardboard. Really poor choice of hosts, though.

I'm glad to see King's Speech won, I loved that movie. I don't think I'll ever understand the hype behind Inception, though; the last half of the dream-heist had me bored to tears, and I STILL don't understand why they had to actually fight the dream-people instead of just dreaming up a machine that made all their heads explode or something(they already blew their cover, so that can't be the excuse...).

What rubbish. The Kings Speech?? LOL. That was an atrocious remake of a classic movie. GG.

What "classic movie" are you talking about? It was based on a true story.

I think a link is needed.
Anywho I do agree with the winners for once. But then again there where so many good movies I would have accepted most of the nominations except the Facebook movie. :P

Was severely astonished that Inception didn't win best movie.. I mean, lol? That was without a doubt the most popular movie of 2010, hands down. Do you know anyone who didn't see it? Do you know anyone who doesn't love Christopher Nolan?
What rubbish. The Kings Speech?? LOL. That was an atrocious remake of a classic movie. GG.

Can't tell if serious

For one popularity =/= best, and for two, Inception was a pretty standard blockbuster, and the so called hard-to-figure-out plot was anything but.

And also, I can't find any reference to an original Kings Speech, other than http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF8q45vwf-0

I would have voted for Inception as the best movie. I've also watched The Fighter, Black Swan, and The Social Network.

The Fighter was an amazing movie as well, but it did pretty good tonight. Won quite a few awards.

My Votes:

Best Film: Either Inception or The Fighter

Best Director: David O. Russel for The Fighter

Best Actress: Natalie Portman for Black Swan

Best Effects: Inception

I'll watch the repeat for the actual show later today. Which is why I won't be revisiting this thread for a while. :P

i thought blue valentine was the best movie of the year,
i also liked true grit and the fighter,
social network too was pretty good,
the rest of them i would not rate at all,
but that goes for the oscars themselves,
it's an event for its own sake and nothing more,
a good example is the whole buzz about the king's speech, which is a very average movie, on the other hand tom hooper's last film - the damned united - was a great film, but was completely overlooked because it just wasn't geared for awards.

All the nominated movies I watched were downright awful, including Black Swan. Especially Black Swan. Additionally, Nolan shouldn't be considered for anything except the most ridiculous scenario ever, and I see Danny Boyle hasn't moved away from his stupid new-age feel good formula he tackled in Slumdog Crapionaire.

EDIT: Yeah, I think the most exciting piece of news about this year's Academy Awards is that King's Speech was shot in a room previously used for gay porm LOL

I am in 100% agreement with almost all of the Oscar wins this year, which has like... never, ever happened before. Usually I'm almost crying midway through them, because the Academy chooses the wrong people/movies to give the awards to. Always.

This year, though... the King's Speech, Natalie Portman and Colin Firth in particular completely deserved their awards. So yay for this year! Though I liked Hugh Jackman as a host way better than Hathaway and Franco. <_< Hugh Jackman should host like... all the Oscars. He was fantastic.

i dont love christopher nolan,
i think he's pretty poor,
his action sequences are an over-cut mess,
inception had a good concept and a great sequence of dream manipulation near the beginning, which was then forgotten about in favour of guys running around with machine guns and snowtroopers trying to blow up a base like in a game of g.i. joe

Best Movie - Black Swan, The King's Speech, Toy Story 3, True Grit

Director - Darren Aronofsky, Coen Brothers, Tom Hopper

Best Actress - Natalie <3, She's one of the best and better today. I like her performance in V for Vendetta and Black Swan.

Visual Effects - Alice in Wonderland

The reason I excluded Inception and Social Network was because I've not seen them yet. Natalie, Colin, Christian, Melissa deserved it, but I was hoping Jeff of Tron/True Grit would take one. There's pictures of Jeff and Natalie together on imdb and then the four I named together also, found those pictures awesome of a group shot. In terms of Anne and James, I never really paid much attention to them. Anne seemed forced in spots and James was practically sleeping. :lmao:

Nothing really much to say about the show, it came and went.

I voted Darren Aronofsky with Black Swan all the way, except for Best Visual Effects, for which I chose Christopher Nolan's Inception (partly only because Black Swan wasn't there, partly because they were very impressive visual effects).

Well, I haven't seen Kings Speech, so I can't really judge it, but I've seen most of the other nominees I was interested in except True Grit.

I'll be watching Kings Speech, True Grit, and 127 Hours eventually. I think they're still in the theater where I am. :)

And I'm incredibly glad Bale won for The Fighter. Anyone who's seen that movie along with a previous film of his would know that he did a brilliant job.

I've only seen Inception and Toy Story 3 on the list. Inception was very good, so that gets my vote.
