Clever Moments in Gameplay History

Post » Thu Oct 07, 2010 4:05 pm

Hi there friends.

I was thinking today about how I play, how I use mods, and wanted to maybe have a thread where clever gameplay strategies could be shared. If this thread already exists in some form, forgive me and please point me in the right direction.

What are some clever ways you've overcome obstacles in the game? What mods caused what situation / and how did you get out of it?

A few to start off with: (careful of too many spoilers)

- the other day I was playing AFK weye and I needed to get into a home that was not mine to remove an object and bring it to someone else... but there was a diligent guard posted right in front of the door. it occured to me that i had these knockout gas arrows from Thieves Arsenal. hid behind a bush, shot a knockout gas arrow at the door - and the guard collapses (but doesn't die) and in i go for my clever sneak.

- another time i had fallen into a watery pit with no discernible way to escape. i didn't want to console `tcl or reload an old save. luckily, i had my vine arrows (also from thieves arsenal.) shot one at the ceiling and climbed my vine rope right out.

Any ideas or tips that you'd like to add?

Oh - also - is there a way to stealthily frenzy? I was in a cave with lots of creatures that I wasn't near strong enough to deal with. I'd love it if there was a way to stealthily shoot some frenzy poison and make the creatures attack each other - allowing me to sneak by or just hide and watch them kill each other.

Install Denock Arrows (included in COBL) so you do not waste your arrows or alert the enemy when you only accidentally clicked the button...so annoying to forget that you do not have that mod installed (enabled). :(

Use PiiP to make noise by throwing things. Enemies will wander over to the object, allowing you to sneak past them.

My mod Stealthy Absorbs and Drains allows you to cast absorb/drain attribute/skill spells as non-hostile spells. You could probably adapt it to other spells fairly easily. In fact, I might do that myself in a future release. Thanks for the idea! :)

That seems way, way, way too good on absorbs.

Here's something interesting. I have this mod that lets you store alchemy ingredients in a convenient carry pouch. I adjusted the .ini so that it doesn't weigh anything So I've got tons of alchemy ingredients in there, and I was in a horrible fight, ran out of healing potions, and thought "hmm..." grabbed out all my Restore Health ingredients. I found I had over a hundred Daedra hearts (I had closed a LOT of gates before finishing the MQ on that character). I ate them all, every last one of them. Funny how there's no restriction on ingredients like there is on potions. In three seconds, despite taking tremendous hits, my health was back up to full and I was easily able to take out all the enemies attacking me. I never did look to see just what the magnitude of the Restore Health effect was, it wore off before I was able to kill the last enemy.

So the basic tip to take from this is: there's no limit to the number of alchemy ingredients you can eat at once. Cairne Bolete Caps are also a lot lighter (0.1) than Daedra Hearts (1) so you can carry 10 times as many without the aid of mods that make carrying items easier.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25224 a frenzy or control spell onto your bow.

Control is usually best because everything there is your enemy and since it's under your control it won't attack you, only everything else in there.

[OT] Nah, you have to have a high Stealth to cast expensive spells and it doesn't affect health, fatigue, or magicka. It's like pickpocketing for mage/thief combos only you get attribute and skill points instead. I use it mostly to improve my bargaining skills. I'd never use these spells without it. [/OT]
