Start Your Own Guild?

Post » Sun Oct 17, 2010 6:19 am

Don't flame, please. I'm new here.
EDITED: I've Been Using Guild Incorrectly. Guild is now "Buisness" in most instances. While I still want to create Guilds, Buisnesses are now in this thread.
Anyway, I had the idea of the player being able to create a guild. Now, this would be done from the "Capital" city (like how the Imperial City was in Oblivion), and would follow a pre-designed template, which follows:
>Guild/Buisness Name: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

>Guild/Buisness Focus: Examples
-Fighting
-Alchemist
-Magic
-Real Estate (I don't know)
-Brothel (Once again, for teh lulz)

>Base Property:
*List of owned properties*

>Finish (Pay X gold)

After completing this process, you would be given a guild charter, in which you would be able to sign members into your guild. However, the stronger your guild/buisness, the more your competition will clash with you, some diplomatically, others violently (I.E, rival Fighting buisness will attack violently, Real Estate buisness will try to negotiate with you). From your base, you could make an Insignia, and forge this Insignia onto weapons. Just like upgrading things like in Bowerstone Castle (Forgive me if the name is wrong) in Oblivion, you would be able to buy upgrades for your guild hall, for a hefty sum of gold, of course. There would also be properties better suited for being a headquarters, such as Castles, and you would be able to keep a base in multiple locations the more powerful you grew.
So... what do you think?

I think it would be cool to make my own guild. :vaultboy:

It would be interesting, but it would have 0 story line because it would be hard to program any and all possibilities you could do with regards to a guild.

No, because I'm against the idea of a single organization controlling the entire market of its respective service. This is why I became a Telvanni instead of a Mages Guild member in Morrowind.

Good mod idea, but probably not a main game concept that I could see happening.

I get TWO fishy sticks!? :D

And, @Hellmouth, Rival Guilds could pop up, and try to compete with you. It would actually be possible for them to win, too. They wouldn't be an empty threat.

Also: Dragonhunters Guild.

Would this be practical to include? No. Would it be plausibly playable? No. Are we likely to see it? No.

Would it still be awesome? Heck yeah!

Do you even know what a guild is?

Yeah, it would be very difficult to include, probably to the point it isn't plausible.
But, I can dream. Since I play on console (my computer can barely run most games) I try to get the "Vanilla" game as best as possible without mods.
A Brothel Guild would definitely turn Fox News' attention. "Fantasy RPG, or Brutal Prostitution Sim? Find out, on FOX!"

EDIT: @ Hellmouth, yes, I do. But you said yourself you don't like it when a single faction dominates the market. So the option for another guild to pop up and steal buisness would appear, sort of like the Blackmarsh mercenaries (Not sure if thats right name) in Oblivion stealing contracts from the Fighters Guild.

Except the Blackwood Company and the Count of Leyawiin was in gross violation of the Fighters Guild charter. Even the Mages Guild knew how to enforce their monopoly in the game Morrowind; one was tasked with either killing, forcibly stopping, or convincing those teaching magic outside the guild to join.

If I could have a brothel guild, I'd definitely have to roleplay a pimp some time.
I usually don't play redguards, but I think a redguard would fit that role perfectly. :disguise:

This could work very well with Radiant Story. It actually seems to be the kind of thing it is meant for.

@Hellmouth Bah, you're right. I've been thinking of the Guilds as Buisnesses. Can't change the title, so when I use Guild incorrectly, can you just mentally swap "Guild" for "Buisness". Thanks for the input.

@Ollix Your picture...is mesmerizing.
But yeah, I think it would be pimpin'. Lol, cwutIdidthar?

EDIT: @Badprenup I just remembered Radiant Story. If it worked correctly than the "Guild" could run itself. Albeit worse than if the owner (you) was running it.

You should put an edit in your first post that says to replace guild with business for when new people come to the thread.

I dunno. The base idea looks cool as hell, don't me wrong. But then trying to imagine how it would translate from on-paper idea to implemented game feature has me cringing as it gets "streamlined" down into the choice of opening cookie-cutter rival Thieves'/Mages'/Fighters' guilds.

While it is a cool idea, I don't see it as being something that could be done in a way that is fun. Also, this really kind of hits on that idea of what to do with the guilds once you've finished the mainquest. I rather see them spend time on giving us extra content for the current guilds, after we have finished their storylines, than on this.

An interesting concept, but seeing how it would all be randomly generated, and considering the fact that we will have 75% random quests already, this wouldn't add much that people would truly enjoy or appreciate. Red flower on a red carpet. <_<

ehhhh.

I doubt there would be enough to DO, creating your own guild. You'd have to have custom missions that were catered towards a specific genre (magic, fighting, escorting, collecting, etc) and by that stage, you may as well just join a guild with similar facets as the one you are trying to create.

It would be far too much to do to cater for such a small minority that would like it. Sure if it was a popular feature I'm sure they could really put some work into it, but if its going to be done it needs to be big and done right.

tl;dr - Not gonna happen.

First time someone makes a Justin Beiber Guild Alduin will come and rightfully kill everyone. So no, no guild creation because thats a can of worms not worth eternal damnation.

Actually, thinking back, I was working with a team to remake FF7 in Oblivion (lame I know but it was fun. Some people are still working on it I think). Anyways I did a beta for treasure hunting with a character to find random gear. By the time I finished I think I had 3-4 difficulties, 10 unique places you could go, and randomly generated enemies based on difficulty. I also managed to do random rewards. This was all done in game scripts and it really wasn't too complicated. It would be really easy to throw in a bunch of easy missions and some hard ones through Radiant Story. For a thief guild you might just be stealing the silver axe from a person one day but the next you have to break into a fortress. It all depends on how well Radiant Story actually works.
