potential FIX for npc slowdown

Post » Sat Sep 26, 2009 9:00 pm

GUYS!!!! I AM CONSIDERING DOING THIS FIX RIGHT NOW.....BUT HERE IS MY SIMPLE QUESTION. WHEN THEY ACTUALLY PATCH AND FIX THIS, WILL I WANT TO REVERT/GO BACK TO HOW THINGS WERE BEFORE I DO WHAT YOU ARE SUGGESTING HERE? BASICALLY....CAN I UN-DO WHAT THIS FIX DOES ONCE THE GAME IS PATCHED AND WORKING??????

Yeah you just delete that DLL file out of your fallout directory and I'm guessing you're right back to the original version.

Broken... or working as intended. One of the two

Lay off the caps please - it's rude and considered shouting.

lol jesus. wasn't trying to be offensive my sensitive friends. just wanted mine to stand out a bit. I won't do it again, and understand your concerns about rudeness. lol, except i was probably more rude here not in caps.

ok an;yway, back on topic, how CAN i swap it back if i want to?

Sensitive? Doesn't have anything to do with that, your question would get answered regardless. All caps is just annoying, to me its something kids do.. or older people who dont know squat about computers (like my aunt).

Delete the dll file you put into the directory. Easy peasy.

Was already answered--just delete the file (d3d9.dll) that you placed into your NV folder.

Edit: a lot of ninjas around here...

Finally. After giving it some face time on Kotaku we get this from our buddy Pete Hines:

http://kotaku.com/5668552/fallout-new-vegas-has-bug-issues

Update: Patches are coming. Pete Hines, marketing man at Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks, tells Kotaku that "We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms. Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming." He advises anyone seeing this head-turning bug to re-verify their files on Steam, as the issue is due to a "corrupt mesh file." Also notable: The head-turning bug here was highlighted two days ago in a blog post by one of the game's producers, who identified it as a known bug that was "eradicated" prior to the game's official release.

They really need to post a sticky of this in here. Like now.

This article, nor does Pete Hines, makes no mention about the fps drop near npc's. I'm wondering if this is part of the patch he's talking about.

Can anyone out there try the file contained in the latest 32-bit Windows XP SP3 with up-to-date DirectX? If you need it I can email it to you. 1.6MEG. Just wondering if this is a better solution.

Easiest solution that SHOULD work (I am at work and can't est) is download the latest DX9 directly from MS and install. DX10/11 can coexist with DX 9. They don't overwrite one and other. This has always worked for me for other DX 9 games that have trouble with DX10/11.

DirectX 9 is the max you can install on a 32-bit Windows XP SP3 install. That's why none of them are seeing this issue. I'm just wondering if it is more compatable or maybe just a more hardened version of the .dll file.

I haven't had this problem with NPC's, but it sounds like it svcks. I do hwoever find that the animation for the NPC's when they move is pretty stiff.

Shouldn't be as far as my understanding of these things goes. That dll file should only effect the program in the same folder with the dll. Nothing else.

Maybe someone more in the know can confirm or deny this?

Oooh. I understand. Well from all the posts it seems like your email would come in handy with the few that are worried about downloading a random file off MU.
