Potion Colors

Post » Mon Sep 06, 2010 3:06 pm

Hi there Bethesda, hope all is well :P

I just like to ask you to perhaps give alchemy a more organized overhaul this time around, by this I mean make potion categories produce bottles that have different colors and shapes, example:

restorative potions:

1-health effect (red bottle)
2-mana effect (blue bottle

if we combo those then the bottle gains the color of the first effect

and so on and so forth

I ask this because I love alchemy but in OB and MW it was a real headache trying to search for home made potions that you want, they all looked the same.

I could make some huge list thingy and list potion colors or bottle shapes, but I will spare you the headache cause I think you understand my suggestion :P.

Great suggestions, and I suspect you may be in luck. It's a shot in the dark, but i would hypothesize that given the new 3D inventory views, I'm sure work has gone into making items somewhat unique. Like, whats the point of have rotatable 3D inventory items (potion bottles) if they are all pink and look the same? I trust Beth on this one

I name my potions to avoid this problem...

However, different coloured potions would be cool. I did get kind of bored walking into my Alchemy lab to be greeted by a sea of pink and green vials.

And while you're at it, you can make soul gems alive (something like a gas with a fetus-shape moving inside) when we look at them in 3D.

To coincide with the OP...

(+)health effect-red
(+)magicka effect-blue
(+)attribute-yellow
(+)skill-purple
(-)anything-green

-The primary effect will define the color.
-Attaching potions to weapons are allowed.
-Attaching raw materials to weapons are allowed...
-...and it will be visible. (Maybe) A poison apple on the tip of an arrow would look like an apple on the tip of your arrow. Maybe not.

Hell, this is such a simple change that I would love.

I hope for many different shape and sizes for bottles as well.

Imagine displaying that stuff on a shelf. Accept the whole part where we have to put it on th shelf. :S

Oblivion actually had like potion bottles in 7 different colours or so, but aside from the pink and green one they were never used.

Im hoping for bottles with different shapes, sizes, and colors.
Red for health
Blue for magic
Lighter blues for restoratives or buffs
Black or darker colors for poisons
Green for stamina. ect,ect
i also think it would be cool if you could have different size bottles too. The bigger the bottle, the more uses you could get out of it.

Why can't we get potion bottles like those? I think you aren't going far enough here. We should get different sizes of bottles based off the weight of the potion too, with different designs like in that pic.

Like in Ultima I see, nice idea thats can applied to all brewed potions but special potions must have unique models and textures.

Great suggestions, and I suspect you may be in luck. It's a shot in the dark, but i would hypothesize that given the new 3D inventory views, I'm sure work has gone into making items somewhat unique. I think I heard in a podcast or read a quote once that Todd Howard mentioned that the items would even have details that worked as clues.
