Povuholo's Morrowind 2010 - Graphics and Sounds

Post » Tue Apr 12, 2011 11:00 am

This thread is such a good place to come when you are re-installing. I've got Morrowind looking very good thanks to this thread, I still need to find something to make Telvanni areas and forts better (they make me feel ill at the moment) but other than that 10/10.

I'm using revision 178, which you can find http://sourceforge.net/projects/morrgraphext/files/Beta%20Releases/MGE%203.8%2B%20SVN%20builds/ That version doesn't even have distant blur anymore.

I downloaded that but as I suspected it's the same one I was using, which doesn't show the options you had in your screenshot and does have distant blur. Not sure what's amiss here... not that it really matters, I borked my MGE pretty badly by being an idiot and copying another version (beta) right over top. Stupid I know. it still works but now for some reason the animated grass makes things super laggy when i look at it, like, 5 fps. not sure how I can fix it.

Updated the list with the mods I mentioned earlier, sounds are next. Then we should be good for 2010. :P

What about http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=7459?

A great a list of mods though! Very much appreciated.

Povuholo, what about the fog settings on the render state tab in MGE? What have you set it to, on or off?

I have the fog on (I guess that's for interiors?) with Range Vertex as the fog mode.

I added Mesh Improvements to the graphics list, and added the sounds/music section at last! It's not everything though, I'm still not sure what else I have installed exactly. It's hard to tell. But the biggest improvements are there, and while I'll keep updating this, you can consider the list complete! :)

And just in time for the end of the year. Merry Christmas everyone!

Thanks! Thank you for these mod lists - I've pieced together a pretty big overhaul of Morrowind using your list and a few others, and I'm spending my holiday overhauling the game.

I see that you recommend Expanded Sounds in this thread and Graphic Herbalism on another thread. I thought that these two are not compatible(as both of them places a script to plants).

The only herbalism mod that re compatible with Expanded Sounds are Herbalism Redux and Herbalism for Purists. Just a heads up.

Graphic Herbalism comes with a patch for Expanded Sounds.

Yeah I just found it last night on Nexus. I never thought of one as that Expanded Sounds page never mentions it.

These sound mods work pretty well for me:

Better Music System - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7899&comment_page=5
I recommend using the silent sounds from http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5330
to overwrite Morrowind's default Battle and Explore music. Overwriting the files works better with Wrye Mash bain archives than renaming the directories does.

Morrowind Sound Replacer - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7245
You need the game Oblivion to use this.

Edit: I recommend against this because when I choose New game, I get some crash and an error message regarding MC_final_script and Molag Amur Region
Better Sounds - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9967
When using this, do not use Atmospheric Sound Effects 3.0u4 or official bcsounds plugin

Awesome list!
Thanks OP.
I have a question though, I got a 1080p widescreen monitor for Christmas and I was wondering if anyone had "Remastered" Morrowind's cutscenes and Opening/Closing vids to look less pixelated and more in line with the movies in todays games and HD widescreen monitors. This would make a hell of a Morrowind 2010 type mod. I'd be willing to do the grunt work on this mod if anyone can point me to a good Hires source for the cutscenes and the converter I would need to convert the vid to .bik files or whatever MW uses.
Anyone?...

A couple more small things to add before 2010 ends. Should I rename it Morrowind 2011? :P

How can you set SSAO as interior only in MGE? I don't see any options for that, and I can bind a key to enable or disable shaders, but not take one out of the chain.

Thanks!

And the list is really handy - can't think of anything to add right now.

- Open the SSAO Shader with MGE Shader Editor
- Click on Edit Shader Flags
- Tick "Disabled In Exteriors"
- Save the shader.

povuholo, watch out. AOF Containers is nice but it will cause a bug where Jiub will kind of teleport up and down at the start of the game due to a changed crate/barrel collision volume.
I think I removed one of AOF's meshes to fix this for myself.

List updated with the previously mentioned mods, including a Nexus link to http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36406. Left out AOF's mod until I get a chance to verify that bug.

It's Meshes\o\contain_barrel_01.nif that causes the problem.
The other barrel mesh is fine.

There are 3 three texture replacers that I would like but can't see anywhere in your list. I'm looking for a replacer for the limeware items, the alchemy items such as the Calcinator and Retort and a texture replacer for doors, specifically Hlaalu ones.

Armed_Defender's Mesh Improvements has alchemy items.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=7459
And don't quote me on this, but he might be adding pewter and limeware stuff soonish.

As for door textures, I'm fine with the ones from Visual pack (maybe not that fine, I fixed them up a little), but everyone seems to like connary's textures.
I haven't seen any replacers which are just for doors, so you probably want to look at the texture packs to find some you like.
