Povuholo's Morrowind 2010

Post » Wed Apr 13, 2011 10:38 am

A question: i have the Morrowind base game but not the expansions. Are they required for many mods?

If yes, a follow-up question: are there incompatiblities with mods or mod tools and the Steam version? (Oblivion initially had with OBSE)

I have a disc version that i bought used years ago but haven't played it. I suppose i could buy the Steam version for the expansions, if they are worth it.

Yes. Almost all of them are.

If yes, a follow-up question: are there incompatiblities with mods or mod tools and the Steam version? (Oblivion initially had with OBSE)

Normal mods do work with Steam I beleive, and most utilities have Steam versions or patchs.

I have a disc version that i bought used years ago but haven't played it. I suppose i could buy the Steam version for the expansions, if they are worth it.

I'd probably get the GotY version just so you can get mods. For example, downloading TR basically doubles the amount of content in Morrowind, and most of it is much better than vanilla stuff, so that would probably make it worth the price alone.

no SILGRAD TOWER? Its excellent.

I haven't really played it much. I installed it once, did a few quests, but that's all. I haven't seen enough that would make me recommend it. And I wasn't very happy with the aggressive intro in Gnaar Mok, or that it overrides all the 'latest rumors' until you go there.

Maybe I'll give it another shot later.

A nice compilation here. For city atmosphere I also recommend http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5057 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8506. Both are great mods that add atmosphere to both cities, and as far as I'm aware don't have many conflicts with the mods you listed or the mods in my own personal setup. Of all the Seyda Neen expansions I've tried over the years, New Seyda Neen is the best IMO. Trancemaster is working on expansions to the other cities as well.

Awesome. I've just opened 11 tabs on my browser, so I'll be downloading 11 mods in a minute.

I'll be waiting for your graphics section. ;)

I found a remake of the Legion Badge mod:
http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/Imperial_Legion_Badge_icon_and_ground_mesh;116210
I haven't actually tested it, though.

Povu the Keyring mod requires MWSE. I already use Wyre Mash to launch the game, and MWSE creates a desktop icon to launch the game from it. What should I do?

EDIT: Well I didn't use MWSE and the mod still worked correctly.

EDIT: Maybe not...

I saved the game and tried to load it up again, the game crashes. I can however load up the other save games (where I haven't yet saved after applying these new mods).

I used:

Darknuts's Greater Dwemer Ruins Volume 1
Dreadknight armour
Keyring
Persuasion something (adds new persuasion lines when taunting etc)
Keening reforged

And they were all simple to install, like other mods. What could the problem be?

Edit: Ok it's the keyring. If I don't load this up the game doesn't crash when loading a saved game. Dammit. <_< I've got a feeling it's because of MWSE. However I thought MGE included MWSE in itself.

Final Edit: It's working now, without any crashes. I know you use MGE povu, so what do you do exactly so I'll just follow your lead. You load up MWSE and Wyre mash together before playing the game?

Nice, I'll give it a shot. Better than having a dwemer coin badge. :P

Wrye Mash is for changing load orders and such, there's no need to have it running in the background. MGE includes MWSE (Make sure that under the misc tab the 'disable internal MWSE version' is NOT ticked) and should automatically load. The only thing you have to do is load Morrowind from the Morrowind.exe or the Morrowind Launcher, and MWSE should work.

I'll add a reminder to the list for MWSE required mods.

I see you're using Races Are More Fun and Birthsigns Are More Fun. Looking at the two, I don't think they're very well-balanced. For example, many birthsigns still only grant boni to attributes, when we all know how easy it is to max out attributes - in order to be useful throughout the game, a birthsign needs to offer more than that. (Also, did the author really change every "Fortify Magicka Mult by x * INT" to "Fortify Max Magicka by x pts"?) As for the races, any race that only has use-once-per-day powers (and no abilities) has a big disadvantage, especially when these are powers that will soon be useless.

Anyway, long story short, I'm using the Morrowind equivalent of the Race Balancing Project by bg2408, http://theelderscrolls.info/?go=dlfile&fileid=41. Unlike RBP, it's not a cosmetics mod, since cosmetics and race stats don't conflict with each other in MW. From experience I can say that the changes really make for a unique experience with each race/birthsign combination, and it's fun to try out lots of them.
The one unbalanced combination is Dunmer + Atronach, because Dunmer have Magicka regen, which renders the big handicap of the Atronach birthsign useless.

I quite like RBP for Oblivion, I'll have a look at thbgBalancing2. Thanks.

Is there an English version of the readme somewhere? I can read German just fine but not everyone else can. The installation is easy but still... :)

Sadly, no. Morrowind used to be available only in English at first in Germany, which is why many people had the English version (and grew fond of it), and with the difficulties of translation, especially the modding scene usually used the EV. That's why there's an English version, but I believe bg didn't have an international release in mind, so there's no English readme.

Ok.

I had a look, and there are some interesting changes. It should definitely make the differences between races bigger, like how Argonians have 25% resist normal weapons, Dark Elves are completely immune to fire... I'm not a big fan of permanent night eye effects, but other than that it looks very good. And I never play as a Khajiit anyway.

2 big major theme mods - have you looked into them?

1. Vampires (but not necessarily required to become one) - Underground 2
2. Dragons (rideable too) - Reign of Fire

Big quest mod, but unfortunately rather buggy. I've attempted to play it multiple times but always ran into issues. And the whole thing felt out of place in the game, which is something I tried to avoid in this list.

Played it, it was pretty fun. IIRC I ran into some issue with one of the last dragons though. Something about not getting a staff or something I was supposed to get from someone, to hatch eggs with? I don't know, it has been years since I used it. Finding and fighting the dragons and everything was fun once but I decided not to keep it for a second playthrough.

There are lots of good mods that I haven't really tried or cared for. Like Vampire Embrace. I don't play as a vampire often, so I have never used it. So I haven't added it to this list.

It's good to hear you've played through and put consideration into the mods on this list, instead of just slapping on any mods you know or like. A very useful list this, I would download more if I wasn't trying to keep my game lightly modded.

Thank you povuholo for this great and well thought out mod list. I remember you mentioning a while ago that you would be making a list, and I must say I've been looking forward to it ever since. I will personally be waiting to reinstall Morrowind until you post your graphics and sounds list, because your Morrowind just looks amazing!
