Thanks for compiling this list povuholo! :goodjob: I'd tried lots of these separately, but I'm looking forward to seeing how they all look together!

No it isn't an all-in-one mod. Read the first few posts. There are links to the individual mods there.

Because not all mods play nice with each other and trying to keep track of a large package when it comes to updates would be a nightmare. That and not everybody who releases a mod wants it in such a compilation, but that's for another topic.

First off, you may want to check this out, it may be what you're thinking of http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1158688-betawipz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics-2/.

Second, it'll make MW look nice but I don't think it'll ever get to Crysis level because if it did nobody's computer could handle it (or you'd have to be like me and get a really expensive box to be able to play it).

That's a compilation made by someone else. It's not really well liked around here, because the compiler ignored the wishes of the modders whose work he took.

A list where you have to download things one at a time takes more time but then you can get exactly what you want to have and you're guaranteed to have the latest version of the mods. And the people who made the mods appreciate it.

Alternatively you can have a look at http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1158688-betawipz-morrowind-overhaul-sounds-graphics-2/, which only uses mods from modders who didn't mind having their work in the compilation. Because it has the support of the modding community here I'd say it is also less likely to have issues. I also think it looks more consistent in graphics style.

Povuholo's list pre-dates the other. The Overhaul team's list contains a good chunk of Povuholo's list, but they aren't identical.

This might be the wrong place to ask this, but I used this list to set up my modded Morrowind, so I'd thought I'd ask it here.

After doing most everything else, I turned my attention to sounds, downloading both the magic sound replacer and PirateLord's Expanded Sounds. However, the linked download only contained an esp. I tried downloading the 1.1 from the same forum but only received a link broken message. I didn't see anything telling me about a required download, so I downloaded it and installed it using Mash. At first play up, all the sounds were present, but then after a while went silent. No ambient noise exists at all. Everything from pulling out my sword, to the torch burning, to swimming through water. Only voices and music really.

Now my rig is very new, and I haven't purchased a sound card for it yet, so I'm using the motherboard to provide sound for now. Don't know if that's a problem.

Also, after checking the readme, it mentioned that I should find a PLX_SND folder in the Sound folder, but no such folder was present.

After discovering this, I uninstalled the mod with Mash, but then upon trying to load a saved game (even ones that didn't have Expanded Sounds and the magic sound replacer installed) I crash to desktop with this error:
Expression Error unable to find sound id "plx_ES_Swamp1" in script MU_GH_Sounds_BC_Fern_01

though just typing this I remember that I still have a Expanded Sounds - Graphic Herbalism patch still active. That might be causing the crash. I'll try deactivating that and then editing this post if it worked.

Any help (or redirection to help) would be appreciated...

EDIT: Deactivating the patch fixed the CTD problem.

First, install http://www.pirates.retreat.btinternet.co.uk/Sounds.htm, then install 1.3 on top of it.

Ah, I recently switched the download link to 1.3 but hadn't noticed 1.2 was required for that. I already had 1.2 installed first so I didn't notice any problems. I'll fix it on the list.

Hi there,
Povuholo, many thanks for your list which has been very useful indeed!
I would have a question, though - sorry if it's not the right place to post it. The Lighting Mod seems quite appealing but I am very hesitant to try it out, based upon Quatloos's comments on the PES page:
Apparently [this mod] is also intended to alter MY current.ini settings (arrived at after many hours of painstaking work and set to MY personal taste and MY video card and optimum for ALL mods played... Due to the extensive number of game cells referenced and altered herein, installing this mod could possibly adversely effect other player's mods... potentially severe impact on hardware config and other installed mods...
Kind of frightening, isn't it?
I have spent several days carefully selecting a hundred of mods so as to make a fresh install and start Morrowind over; I did my best to avoid compatibility issues and selected my mods in this respect... Now the last thing I want is a mod that will just screw up the entire thing.
So my question is: is The Lighting Mod "safe"?

You can just ignore TLM .ini settings and still gets TLM's benefits to your game.

You might want to mention that the mod "Texture Fix - Bloodmoon: Texture Fix for the Bloodmoon expansion." is not necessary is you are also using Bloodmoon Landscape Overhaul mod (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5268) since that mod is built on top of the Texture Fix mod.

Personally I would recommend the Landscape Overhaul rather than the Texture fix.

First props for a great list of great mods. In regards to some of the last comments, let me throw my two cents out there. This list while well made and maintained is a modder's list (I mean not only the ones making the mods but also those most experienced installing and playing them.) If you go and install every mod in the order it is listed in this list the possibility that you will bork your game is very high. I don't say that as a slight to Povuholo, but them's the fact's. This is not a beginers guide from clean install from start to finish. I experienced it myself a while ago and I've been modding Morrowind for myself since 2002. If you are looking for an easy install and play with out headaches you should be looking at Kingpix's Morrowind Overhaul - Sounds & Graphics. Is it perfect? No it is not, and you may want to use this list as a reference to get the very best out of your game, but as a base to play with I think the overhaul is about the best thing going right now. I am extremely happy with my current install and I used the overhaul with a few of the mods on this list overwriting or handling things it does not cover plus some of my own old favorites. It's a shame that some of our greatest assets in the modding community don't have a better command of the English language because I think a lot of the drama that has been going on in the last half year boils down to a lot of silly misunderstandings. Read communication breakdown.

Regardless The point was use this list as a guide to find some really great work from the community, but don't try to use it as an installation guide.

I definitely agree with that. While it is technically possible to run all these mods together (as I have), it's easy to make mistakes, especially if you haven't done much modding before. It's supposed to be a list of nice mods you can use, not a 'just install all of these for awesome' guide.

When I update the list I will mention the Overhaul project, from what I've seen so far it is very well done and user friendly.

The link for Richer Textures is broken. Either that or it was taken down from nexus.

You can download Richer textures here : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22081676/Richer_Textures_v1-34510.7z (but this is a temp site)
(I found it on this subject : http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1181804-low-poly-graphic-replacers/page__p__17517317__hl__richer+textures__fromsearch__1#entry17517317)

Thanks for the above.

Next question - sound mod compatibility.

So having reviewed the lists and downloaded all the sound mods I can find I think I have to whittle away a few of the sound overhaul type mods.

From what I can tell these mods are mutually exclusive:
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1051
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1463
http://z13.invisionfree.com/Pirate_Lords_Mods/index.php?showtopic=3&view=getnewpost
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9967
...is this a correct assumption?

Advantages I see in them:
Morrowind Sound Enhancement is compatible with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=913 (can any other work with it?)

Atmospheric Sound Effects - then I can also use http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1131.

Better sounds can work with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=1131.

But then I see Pirate Lord's Expanded Sounds is a venerable and considered stable mod ... and it seems to have patches for herbalism mods. This leads to two questions.
1. Will using ASE, Morrowind Sound Enhancement, or Better Sounds mess with herbalism mods?
2. Can Pirate Lords Expanded Sounds be used with the above mods as well (or is that a newbie overkill move destined for failure)?

Do any of these conflict withhttp://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7440 or is that unnecessary with any of the above?

Does anyone have success stories or advice to someone like me who has a gut reaction to want to install them all? I'm just not sure which sound mod or combo to go with.

thanks.

[edit clarity - I hope ... I'm still a bit confused - the lists don't talk of compatibilities they just list the mods - readmes unable to address newer mods]

[edit 2] and what is up with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5306 - where you convert mp3s to wav to even install it. Has anyone? Sounds like a royal pain. Is it worth it?

Psymon, I ended up going with Atmospheric Sound Effects (and Illuminated windows). I recommend you check out abusemynipbles.biz for some info on these mods. There, BTB made certain edits to ASE. I tried out the others mods you mentioned and liked this best in the end.

>1. Will using ASE, Morrowind Sound Enhancement, or Better Sounds mess with herbalism mods?

I use ASE and Graphic Herbalism and I haven't noticed a conflict.

>[edit clarity - I hope ... I'm still a bit confused - the lists don't talk of compatibilities they just list the mods - readmes unable to address newer mods]

The mlox tool is fantastic and can help find and warn you about conflicts.

>Does anyone have success stories or advice to someone like me who has a gut reaction to want to install them all? I'm just not sure which sound mod or combo to go with.

1. Spend time trying them out. Start with one at a time :)
2. Read bug reports or votes on planetelderscrolls.com
3. Use the Wrye Mash Installers feature and learn it well
4. Use tes3cmd (available at the mlox page) in this fashion: "mlox clean --replace yourmod.esp" to clean junk out of mods
5. Use "tes3cmd multipatch" to merge leveled lists.
6. Use mlox to watch out for conflicts and get helpful advice
7. Use TESPCD to watch out for conflicts (they occur often but usually aren't a big deal, and merged mods can iron them out)

>[edit 2] and what is up with Swiveller's sound mod - where you convert mp3s to wav to even install it. Has anyone? Sounds like a royal pain. Is it worth it?
He distributed mp3 files instead of wavs in order to decrease download size. I'm using his ambient loops, which required editing Morrowind.ini to install. The thunder sounds great, the birds chirping are a little loud. Overall I like it.

FYI since you are interested in sound mods, I went with these:
1. ASE (BTB's edits to the base plugin and the Illuminated Windows TB/BM extensions)
2. Morrowind Sound Replacer (need Oblivion installed to install this; it copies files from Oblivion!)
3. Ascended Sleepr SFX
4. Improved Sounds Chamber of Song
5. Kiriel's Inerior Weather
6. Replacement Sounds for Kirel's Interior Weather
7. Quieter UI Sounds
8. Sleepers, Awake!
9. Swivellers Sounds 1.1 (ambient sounds only)
10. Thieves Step

I've tried many more sound mods and NOT used them.
I've also chosen to use like 5 voice mods and Better Music System. Overall I'm using a bit less than 526 downloaded mod files, and I have some esm's/esp's are merged together for a total of 254 such files loaded into Morrowind.
