Power Armor Costume

Post » Mon Dec 14, 2009 6:10 pm

Thanks for the support, guys!

I didn't have as much time as I hoped, this weekend. I did get the new forearm painted, but haven't finished painting the elbow. I got the base of the chest armor together. But when I attached it to the neck armor I realized I made the neck armor to big. Which makes the chest armor hang too low on my chest. So...I'm going to have to modify that :( My shoulder attachment solution isn't doing as well as I hoped. I think I'm going to wait until the neck, chest and back are complete before I try attaching them...to protect my sanity :)

Here is the new forearm without the elbow:

Here is a picture of the current state the chest and neck armor are in:

This picture is a little fuzzy, but it shows how the neck armor is too big:

Wow. this is really shaping up nicely. I would definently do this, but I have school so I would need a template to build it fast enough for me not to grow out of it the first month i start building it

Excellent stuff. Yeah maybe shorten the neck by about 1-2" and it will be boss. Looking at this makes me want to kick into gear on my own suit. Got about half the 3D files ready.

I figured out the problem. Yea, it was a little too big. I took an inch off the front and scaled down the vents by 20%. But, I also formed it to MY body. Anyone that knows me, knows I don't belong in BOS armor :). So, when I made the new one, I formed it to my awesome imaginary pecs of steel. It looks MUCH better. And because I made a new one, I added the shoulder supports into the template. The neck is only cut and formed. I haven't dremeled or sanded it yet. I just quickly put it togeher to see what it would look like. I liked it so much, I had to take a few pictures.

Looks cool, but (not trying to make you angry, lol) the eyeholes on the helmet look a little too big.

T51B Testee - No problem, You didn't make me angry, lol. There is a lot more wrong with the helmet then just the eye holes. But, the problem is...it took me too long to complete the first one. I don't have it in me to make another one. Maybe, once the the set is complete and I get extremely bored, I'll make another one with smaller eye holes, large nose cone, rounded top...the list is long.

It's weird; it looks fine when you don't have it on, but when it is on, it looks like something Bumblebee would wear.

Other than that... Holy s***.

I'm working on a Power armor costume for Holloween. I'm almost finished with the helmet. I wanted to post a few pictures to see what you guys think. It's mostly made of Sintra (It's similar to what they make Stormtooper costumes out of). For some of the detailed parts I used all kinds of stuff from Home Depot and my basemant: Play-doe containers, shower rod holders, pencils, cat-5 and coaxail cable, plumber washers...

Anyway, it's taken a few weeks now and I just wanted to know if I should continue to finish it.

Hey John , nice job. I too am working on a suit... I am curious where u got the black tubing......mike

Thanks, Bloodmike. do you have any pictures of your costume?

I really haven't found the tubing I'm looking for. I'm still debating on using the the one I got online. For the tubing that's shown in the pictures, check out post #17.

I haven't had much time to work on the costume lately. I haven't worked on it at all this week. I did finish the chest armor and painted it to see what it would look like. I finished the stomach armor too. I have to work all this weekend so I'll try to get some pics up next week.

When I saw the title I was thinking paper machete, did not get what I expected. Really good, hope the whole set is just as good!

When you saw the title you were thinking of paper machete? Seriously, you were thinking of a paper version of a machete? Lol.

Sorry, I've been gone so long. I'm taking a break from this build to make a costume for my wife. I did finish the stomach plate, thou. I'll take some pictures soon.

For those who are interested, here are more of the Templates I made:

Thank you.

Looks pretty awesome. Thanks for ru?ning my social life even more than Fallout did.... ([/sarcasm])

As I read earlier, you mention something about turning the helmet from a "Torture Device" to something fitted. From experience I know that a used motorcycle helmet or those used in construction (safety helmets, sorry don't know the english word for it) or the helmets that Skaters use for protection.

The motorcycle and skater helmets have foam inside that is easily carved to fit inside yours. Just use a dremel to cut the outer hard plastic shell and use the foam inside the Power Armor helmet. The construction safety helmets have a plastic "crown" inside that can be fitted in the helmet, however it isn't as comfortable, or easy to fit in the helmet as the foam based helmets.

The motorcycly and skate helmets can best be acquired at yard or garagesales or any other second hand store, since firs hand ones are expensive as wel. Doesn't matter if someone even had a real accident with them since you won't be using them for protection. so second hand is best and saves you some bucks.

The constructionhelmet can be acquired at nearly every hardware store or construction site. Construction site might give you one, since there is always a worker careless enough to let it fall a few floors, get it broken somehow or whatever. They can't use it if the plastic's broken, but you can ;)

Thanks for the templates, I'll work something out. If all else fails, its back to aluminum and my welding machine :P

Just wanted to say that I was very impressed with your work. That power armor is going to be boss or maybe BOS. I svck at scratch builds so that is even more incredible to me.

I think I might of seen you around the 405th awhile back for the kid chief. I was hoping you could tell me where you got the tubing for the respirator/gas mask. I have looked everywhere and either it's the wrong size or the wrong shape. Yours looks just right.

I'm working on my own custom version T-51b is why I wanted to know. Here's a pic to show I'm not just BSing you.

Also, we've made some pepakura stuff for the Pipboy, T4x, T51b, and F3 Enclave Mk II on the 405th if people are interested.

hey man i love the helmet and saw the helmet on youtube went to the link but couldnt find the main thing you need i was wondering if you could like send me the instructions or give me a total link to the instructions.
