Power Armor disappointment

Post » Sat Jan 30, 2016 7:31 pm

I get why they did it. I'm still disappointed. I need fusion cores to keep it going. Wow. I suppose as I level higher and get more points in scrounger it won't be a problem. But in the Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I was so used to being fully clothed in the traditional T-45 D armor. I wonder if they will patch that or have a DLC where you get a core that lasts. I know there is the Nuclear Physicist perk which adds some minutes to your core time. Still. Was anyone happy about Power armor being limited the way it is now?

Honestly, I don't so much mind needing a power source for Power Armor. It does make sense, really. Anything with any sort of automated moving parts needs some sort of outside influence to actually make it go, and unless it's solar powered it doesn't really have anything to do the trick.

As far as fusion cores themselves are concerned, I haven't run into any shortage of them yet, and I have not picked up the nuclear physicist perk. Still have an abundance left of full fusion cores at that. I always use up the ones that have less than 100 charge to them left and store the full ones for safe keeping. Even doing that, I've not had to make any withdrawals from the stash of full cores.

That being said, everybody has a different play style, and that may be why I have an abundance over somebody who may not.

Don't worry, you find fusion cores out the wazoo. My last character quit at LVL 74 and had over 100 in his inventory and used P.A. a lot. Had so many I couldn't possibly use them all up. They were precious until I was at lvl 15 or so, then I realized I was finding them faster than I was using them up. From there, they just built up in my inventory constantly.

I love the way it is implemented in this game. :P

Like others are saying, Cores seem like they should be precious and horded, but they're honestly not particularly limiting - assuming you use Fast Travel. If you don't Fast Travel, you may have a little trouble early on if you want to stay in PA all the time.

Maybe they did for the exact reason that you shouldn't be hanging out in Power Armor ALL the time. You shouldn't be able to sneak at all in it. It's heavy. It's loud. And it's bound to be uncomfortable. I know I wouldn't talk to you if you were in PA. I'd run the other way!

Personally I rarely use PA (unless I'm going to the GS) so cores are never an issue. I have like 200 of them (I'm probably exaggerating, I think it was 97 last time I wore it).

Fusion Cores just about fall from the sky. My last count I had about 120 in storage and another 30 or so In my inventory.

I think this part is done just right since it was suppose to be limiting.

You know you can also save almost used FC & sell it for cap.

Usually 2-3 used FC = 1 brand new FC.. so you can extend their usage quite a bit.

Using Action Points directly consumes Fusion core so try to minimize that too.

I have about 650 fusion cores. I don`t even know why I have so many.

go to diamond cuty and Arturo will sell 5 or more every other day, as well as 2-4 from the junk shop next door, which is more than you can ever use.

Keep playing. Soon I guess you'll experience the same change of heart most seem to have experienced: you'll be disappointed at how overly abundant fusion cores are and how easy and OP it is to play in PA.

The level 74 character that I parked had a fully modded set of X-01 and about 80 fusion cores. They are so common in various respawning level loot containers, that I seriously could play in the PA constantly, including running all the time and sprinting occasionally and never have to buy fusion cores, never run lower than about 50 and this was without the Nuclear Physicist perks that make them last longer.

Basemants of buildings anywhere tend to have one, as do generators in various locations. I've a bit under 70 fc and I've spend some cores on making robot companions using a mod.

Like a couple of the other posts state they are so easy to come by you will have tons of them soon. I currently have 50 on my character and more in storage.

The problem with PA is not the Core issue, it is 2 issues that one of which is stupid ..... which I will publish in my 'Game Stupidity #2' post soon

Until then it is a given that PA is OP - and I am playing on Very Hard atm

We do not like the need for Power Cores. Also it is uglier than before.

I don't like running around in PA. Not because it's made badly or i have a shortage on cores... it's just not my style.

I started with a single point in endurance (second run), survival mode.

Never missed the hitpoints or armor.

PA isn't overpowered... sneak/sniping is ;)

But i plan on wearing one in my "Brotherhood" run.

I know i will swear and curse a lot ;)

Also, FCs are ammo for the gatling laser. At some point, I found a freezing gatling laser. Still couldn't use up all my FCs!

The issue with keeping up with fusion cores slowly goes away as the game progresses and you're able to accumulate a lot of them, which makes sense. Power armor has always been an endgame armor in the Fallout games, and while you obtain it really early in Fallout 4, you can't actually use it with the lack of fusion cores that early into the game. So in the end, nothing has really changed in regards to how accessible power armor is.

I like the way they did it

It adds to the RPG aspect, that you have perks for it and have to use 'ammo' to run it

and it's damage resistance is actually so high, that it should have those downsides, to make it more balanced (which it still isn't :D)

Keep in mind, in FO4 power armour is not clothing...it's a vehicle, or more precisely a powered exo skeleton. You don't wear it, you hop inside it and drive it around.

'Clank, clank, I'm a tank...woops...fusion core ran out...stumble, stumble, I'm a meatsack'.

I like the mechanic. PA is very, very OP. Like you step into it and it gives you hundreds of DR. Even with Ballistic Weave you can't come even close to that. I think if the player wants to be a walking tank he should pay for it. If they didn't implement some kind of limiting mechanic for that level of godlike ability they would have heard even more complaints. Although, having said that, I'm never very happy about how quickly the fusion cores are used up, but with perks you can solve that problem, which seems like a good idea, because if you want to rely on PA as a main part of your character build why shouldn't you have to perk it up like you would sneak?

WE? Who you talking about Willis?

The X-0 1 is a sweet looking suit. Cores are perfect for power and limiting it.

Well, if you're on PC, this would be a perfect opportunity for me to http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8294/? my only beef with the Fusion Core mechanic is that earlier games claimed that power armor models starting with T-51 had power sources that would last for centuries. There are a few ways you can kind of reconcile this with how Power Armor works in 4, but I just decided screw it; I made an object mod you can craft in the misc slot of power armor chests that eliminates Fusion Core depletion. Considering the crafting requirements, the power of other torso misc mods, and the abundance of Fusion Cores, I think it's fair.

I think the current balance with Fusion Cores and everything else about Power Armor works really well, though. The first one they give you is a real clunker, and you barely have enough Fusion Cores to take full advantage of it. But as you level up you can find better armor, more Fusion Cores, and with crafting you can turn your suit into a real monster. The overall progression and maintenance is great. I just wish the scaling on randomized Power Armor frames wasn't so Obliviony.

Power Armour has to be among my top five favourite new features in FO4. The fusion core feature is definately to keep things *somewhat* balanced. In the late game you'll be swimming in them, unless you are playing a 'no fast travel' playthrough, in which case I can see why you'd be frustrated when it chucks you out on the way to your objective.

Don't see the power cores being much of an issue at all. Heck, I could have filled a scrooge mcduckian vault with the amount of cores I had in my inventory.

Honestly, even with a no-fast-travel game I never had a ton of trouble with Fusion Cores - doing that, you're more likely to have to make repairs than you are to run out of Fusion Cores. But that's where settlement building comes in handy - when you have several settlements across the entire map connected via supply line, and Power Armor Stations built at most of them, you're never too far away from a repair stop on your journey.

Power armor using fusion cores is a good decision since power armor is really overpowered, especially when you start upgrading it. I'm using a mod that doesn't use fusion cores and it's really overpowered. Only reason I do that is well, I find being overpowered tank in games fun.
