Is Power Armor effective? (vs. mini nuke)

Post » Tue Jan 19, 2016 4:04 am

I've seen a few posts asking about power armor and being able to take a mini nuke blast. Well I've accidentally put this idea to test in my latest video xD.

I'm lvl 19 with no perks affecting damage or damage resist (survival mode)
My Power Armor:
T-51d Torso, Helmet, Left & Right Arms
T-45d Left & Right Legs
All pieces have explosive shielding

You can see me take a mini nuke at pretty much point blank range, taking 70% of my health (181 HP) at 4:50 in video (link also in description). To be more accurate, I molotov a group of mutants, one being a suicider.

A dense mod and just combat armor chest (no PA) can also do that. Best chest mod to get.

so yur sayin just a combat armor chest piece with mod from a workbench can resist a mini-nuke?

i have the regular, first combat armor chest piece you get on underneath that PA with the best resist mod you can make for it, not sure if that would have been effective against the nuke xD; i can test it out i guess xD

With just 1 dense combat armor mod (chest), and 2/3 Lone Wanderer, a nuke does almost no damage to me on Survival.

They probably put a decimal in the wrong place by mistake, like with Killshot perk.

Armor works as

~ damage / 1+(armor / Base damage)

Nukes deal 468 base damage, *modifications.

468 armor and the damage will be reduced by half (234*m), 936 will deal 1/3 (156*m), and 1404 armor will reduce that to 1/4 (117*m)

If you have enough armor to reduce it to non lethal levels it won't kill you, as simple as that, Of course enemy damage multipliers mean you may need more armor to survive than just the base damage.

How the explosive reduction mod works I have no idea, it either increases armor, or reduces the damage by an additional fraction.

From my experience, it seams to half the final damage, meaning even a armor level of 0 would reduce damage to <250 in most cases, which is usually survivable for most characters, 468 or more amor reduces this to barely over 100

I've only ever survived a mininuke, or a hit from a suicider's atomic boxing glove, when I was wearing my trusty PA.
