Power Armor, or not

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 4:03 am

I have a fully upgraded X01 with Jet Pack but..

Power Armor is slow and expensive to repair.... (at my level (60) Fusion cores are not the problem! ^_^)

My Weaved hat & military clothes offer me great protection at bargain weight!

What I do miss though is...

- JetPack! Damn I want to jump on that roof!

- Larger carrying capacity (but not that much after all! :-o )

What do people do? Are you wearing your power armor?

I've been wearing mine for a while on my BoS playthrough but at level 44 and a Gatling Laser with enough ammo to spare for a while, I'm too overpowered. Hell, even playing in regular armor renders me pretty powerful still. I just use the T-45f version though.

What about repairs? That's what bother me the most!

Mm... maybe it's because I don't like fast travel to my settlement, prefers to keep exploring non stop forever!!

But power Armor need repairs!

For speed, apparently there is a leg mod for speed (might replace my carry capacity increase for it!)

Plus I already got 200+ from weaved hat and clothes, it's pretty good! And doesn't need any repairs!

You only have one settlement? Not bunches, each with a PA station and linked by supply lines?

And you're not scrapping/storing everything you don't need in a workbench, but selling?

Yeah, I can see why you're having a tough time keeping your PA repaired.

I'll probably use it more later in the game, but right now my combat armor is more than enough so I only use it very rarely when I feel like it.

u need it on survival for dangerous areas

i like how they designed it but i want to take it with me and keybind it ... i hate dealing with loading screens and watching myself entering it every time

use high-end weapons when u use power armor so that enemies don't live too long to break it or buy shippments of steel from vendors

I have multiple settlement!

But I rather not travel too much to them! Once a (real world) day at most, if I can hep it! ^^

When me and my companion are full, I just stop collecting! ^_^

I think, personally, it depends on what you want to do. If I plan to stealth for the most part, for example, power armor is thematically counter-intuitive. for a tanking set up, I would go ahead and power armor up.

Well then, that's your problem. Your operating for long periods in the field without returning to base for resupply or repair. If you really don't want to return for repairs, then you should just stash your PA somewhere.

I'm mostly stealthy so I only use it in the glowing sea or then I know I will run into high intensity close combat.

At level 56 settlement under attack by supermutants qualifies as this,

i think depend on how u like to play, i have 2 PC one that use PA all the time, and the other that didnt touch it. And both have different styles.

I really like using the PA.

Jetpack.... I just cheat and

Spoiler
use a hazmat suit by dropping it out of my invintory and holding onto it while looking down while I back up into a wall making me climb like spider man

lets me go alot higher up sheer walls than a jetpack does.

I don't use power armor. I just plain don't like them. My characters prefer to run around as a Doughboy rather than a tank. All of the power armor that's been recovered in my game are used to decorate the front of the house like lawn gnomes.

Not a fan of it in this one. It's a bit clunky. Not really liking the HUD. If you take head damage no more light. Can't pick locks or hack computers I forget which one it was, while wearing it. I'll use it if venturing around in glowing sea. Other than that I just seem to be collecting them.

I couldn't agree with you more. After that one early-game quest where it was forced on me, I parked it and didn't look back. And yes, I've defended settlements at high level against boatloads of supermuts. No power armor needed. Also no companions (not even the dog), no energy or automatic weapons and no chems other than stimpaks. The PA is, for me, completely unnecessary (and I agree with you on the looks).

Have only worn it a few times. When the game's main questline suggest using it (Concord and the Glowing Sea) and occasionally when coming across it in the wasteland.

Besides that, I prefer going without it. Not that I don't like it, in fact, I actually love how power armor is treated in Fallout 4 as an actual human tank as they were seen as in the lore, not just as some suit of armor to equip. It's just not fitting for my current character who is very stealth based. I know it's possible to sneak in power armor, but its just immersion breaking to see some hulking mass of metal sneaking up on enemies. Looks ridiculous.

Still, happy they returned with the advanced power armor. :mohawk:

The single reason I let it go. Moves so damn slow in hidden mode, on my stealth char. I only wear it in the Glowing Sea.

On my lvl 27 new char on the other hand I kinda need it cause I'm using just a 'swatter' and I do up close combat. But I've just unlocked ballistic weave so I guess my pa is gonna gather dust from now on :D

I think most people choose Power Armor just because they like running through the game and shoot everything. Not my way to play the beautifully crafted world that needs exploring. And I'm the stealth type. The design looks tolerable in Fallout 4, but I wasn't a fan of it in previous games. I keep it around, repair it, modify it, paint it, etc. I just don't wear it.

I wonder if the people who complain about the lack of content and say they just run & gun and save time are the ones who wear Power Armor and only found 30% of all the hidden details in the world.

Only X-01 touches this skin, I don't wear the other tin-cans. :P

And if I do wear power-tin-can-armor I usually save it for the Glowing sea or when I clear out my settlements.

I never wore PA in Glowing Sea. Never even considered it as an option because I forgot it had rad resistance. I did wear a hazmat suit, however, because it seemed appropriate. I believe Dr. Amari suggested the hazmat suit (not power armor). Subsequent times, I basically went in wearing my regular armor and kept a good supply of Radaway on hand.

I guess I just don't like the whole concept of Power Armor. The fact that BoS wears it makes me dislike it even more ;).
