Power armor rarity

That requires that we Can suspend our disbelief.

For people with a passing knowledge of lore, ingame logic, small unit tactics and small arms, they Are pushing it.

I like to RP. And anyone who ever served or did national service Will struggle to keep suspension of disbelief. We Are not playing CoD.

I agree power armor in game as a player doesn't do what the lore makes it out to be, but if you played operation anchorage when those t51b guys rolled out they did some seriousness damage. The difference between leather armor and power is quite nice though and makes you feel like a tank when versing a dozen raiders

Pretty much this. It's why we need back both damage threshold AND damage resistance. With none of that 15% bleedthrough crap. Otherwise a freaking rad roach can eventually kill us in what is basically a walking tank.

The armor should protect up to a certain damage level in my opinion but still take cnd damage no matter what damages it. For example a radroach cannot damage you but a 308 sniper rifle can bleed through and damage both your health and the condition of the armor

Thats a play style issue and Furthermore somewhat watered Down.

A lore "optimal" suit would enable you to walk into Vault 3 and kill everyone without getting a scratch Even if you decided to just stand in one place.

But thats not how it works.

I realize that there has to be some... Artistic freedom... But its really pushing it.

Also game mechanics make it somewhat superflous. Even despite The fact that noone drops and seeks cover when a mate has his chest or head explode, and you hear The rifle blast after The fact, it would be nice if they didnt beeline for you, as if they inde pr divine insight where the shot came from.

Gamemechanics sure. But it gets Old fast when The opposition act like overconfident sheep trying to kill something they cant possibly destroy.

not exactly fallout one and pos had vault dwellers, but pos had you unlock him Fallout 2 you were a tribal, fallout tactics you were the warrior fallout 3 you were actualy born outside the vault, and in NV you were a courier

So 2 vault 1 tribal one warrior one courier and one unlockable fallout one cannon vault dweller...

Power armor is ugly in my books (except for Enclave Tesla Armor) so I don't care for it too much. I let the respective people use it and rarely loot it (due to how heavy it is).

Would be cool that you are given/discover old beat up power armor near the beginning but need specific parts and skill to fix it that you wont be able to get for a while. Would make a nice side goal.

I like that Enclave armor it has such a sinister look to it.

But I usually don't wear power armor, so its no biggy how rare it might be in F4.

Is the Power armor shown in the trailer complete, the one at the.. gas station, or whatever it is? It looks like it has parts missing, so perhaps you will be able to put it together from parts found? Or am i wrong about that?

Edit: Spelling.

That one in particular seems to have parts in the limbs missing.

This is not exactly a lore friendly, but I think it would be a neat change, and have nothing (essentially) to do with the BoS.

I would love for PA to be designed for the PC in a modular form. We would quest/find/buy parts to outfit the armor so it would grow in strength as the game progresses. We could start out in the vault suit and maybe then work up to under-armor. As we discover parts (the poster above was right that actually manufacturing parts would be difficult, I don't think putting together compatiable components would be too out of the question).

Your experimental armor might have some customization as you build it, with mutually exclusive choices. So, do you want to incoporate cermanic plating to help against laser weapons or re-enforce tungsten joints to reduce crits against you? Do you want to enhance the servo motors to increase the STR bonus, or add gyscopic springs to the leg plates to increase your run speed? We could go REALLY crazy, adding reflective composite coating for sneak bonus! (CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK... Raider #1: Do you hear that? Raider #2: Ya, but all I see is that dog out there) or an enhanced on board PIP Hackman Security Suite which would increase your science skill and allow you to hack robots at a distance!

The main problem is this would tie the development of the PA along with character progression, making it another set of traits/stats to level, which would turn people who don't want to use the PA off. I don't think anyone should be forced to use PA or play a certain way, but I would love it if they found a way for us to tinker out a personalised suit of PA.

EDIT: Prepositions are for jerks, apparently.

I liked the look of the cobbled power armor in the trailer... and think it'd be cool if the only way to obtain Power armor, beyond joining a power armored faction... would be to craft it from the various parts in the wastes... It would be big, bulky, and probably not be as good as a complete unit... but it would be damn cool looking. Perhaps after scavenging enough, you could... in theory, find enough matching parts to make a whole set... but with it being pieced together, it would never be truly as good as one that wasn't wonder glued together.

I would hope that power armor is rare, actually powerful, classed as a vehicle ~not stow-able in inventory; and only repairable by NPC specialists.
And also the only way to equip and use a minigun.

I prefer this. I remember getting power armor in FO1 for the rest time, after the roaming around to actually obtain one, instead of it being lootable in FO3. I do like that Bethesda added that you needed a perk to wear it, that should stay but make it at as rare as Dragonbone like in Skyrim as a somewhat familar and recent example.

Honestly, I never played Fallout 1/2, but I hated the Power Armor training perk. The only time I felt it made sense was, actually never. Rarity is fine, but perk needed to wear it is just stupid. IF it needs to stay, make it a beneficial perk that works WHILE wearing power armor, not one that ALLOWS one to use it.

(I mean seriously, why is the player the only one who HAS to have a perk to wear power armor?

Those that wear power armor proper are supposed to go through or have proper training in how to use it because it's actually a powred endoskeleton that is suppose to imprower the user with strength and act like a tank. It's even nuclear and electromangentically powered ( That's why using EMP weapons against the user deals more damage to them. You can see this in Ancorage and NV ). That's why you see the the lower ranked knights in recon armor because it's supposed to make get them ready to wear power armor by helping their bodies conture to them, it also usually worn underneath power armor because it helps the user be more flexiable while moving around in it. In regards to the perk it's more a game mechanic in play to balance people from getting it early on and being OP, that was one of the problems in 2 because you can literaly go from the starting village to the Enclave's outpost to get power armor without any combat.

Now that I think about it, one of the way's to implement in a way so if the user that uses it without training suffers a penality.

Any chance they'll take a look at mods like "powered power armour" and say: "Hey, that looks pretty cool, we should make this a part of Fallout 4!".

Any at all?

Please?

What I mean is, EVERYONE except the player can just put on a suit of power armor, and go. The player needs a perk, but no one else? That is a joke.

I know, I'm was never happy about that. Was just stating the usability of them from a lore standpoint It's more a game mechanic then the actual lore itself. In the end it's more of a balancing act for the players to not become OP early in the game, like I said if they implent it in a way that the users suffer penalities if they don't have the training for anybody so they can wear it and give some bonuses in the training itself for those that do have it then I'll be more okay with it. It's a problem the series had since I can remember with companions, in regards to 3 it was most likely a oversight from Bethesda that they didn't think of.

In JSawyers New Vegas mod he made it so the perk just adds max carry weight equal to the amount the power armor weighs when you wear it. So it doesn't weigh you down.

Played that, for like five seconds. Eh, power armor should just be super rare (like 10 strength rare), and nothing else in my mind.

It's not really a problem outside of companions, and I do believe it should be mechanically possible to prevent them from being able to wear power armor.

I will likely collect PA in FO4 for occasional use and maybe for profit, but am hoping to find combat armor similar to Reilly's Rangers armor. I just prefer the agility of combat armor.

Power armour rarity is rather dependent on who is in the game, if the BOS and the Enclave are around in very small numbers or not at all and nobody else has working power armour (like the NCR heavy troopers) then Power Armour is likely to very rare. If every other guy is stomping around the wastes in PA then its going to be very easy to get your hands on the usual collection of types.
