Power Armor is TOO Powerful

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 11:57 am

I haven't even read this thread and totally agree with the OP title.

It's like wearing a tank. Nobody can truly hurt you. The only major weakness is that it runs out of power.

Sorry, but getting bodyslammed by a deathclaw 1/2 a dozen times and surviving is just not realistic.

Really? I wear PA against a deathclaw and can only take two hits before dead every time. That's on normal difficulty.

You're meant to be a tank. That's how PA is supposed to be....

Power Armor is supposed to be overpowered. That's the whole point. It has durability and a limited power supply to make sure you don't use it for everything. It's also impossible to sneak in and severly limits your agility.

It does what it's supposed to do- make you a walking tank... with all the subtlety and agility of one as well.

It's better than 3 and New Vegas, where it just had somewhat better stats than normal armor.

No wonder I never use mine. Sneaking around in leather and doing headshots is more my speed.

+1 I have been hanging around Bethesda's forums for 13 years now, since before Morrowind was released I think, and I have lost count how many times I have seen these sorts of threads after a games release it makes me quite sad! Firstly, stop trying to become the most powerful beast you can be then come here to complain about how easy the game is it its quite disturbing. Secondly, they have balanced the power armor out with the need for Power Cores which I am finding are in short supply.. if U have googled hints walkthroughs to find them easily then that once again is your own problem not the games. Im going back to play FO4 HF !!

Help my stealth suit is to stealthy! Also I want to ask the people who say pa is to op what were you expecting from a suit of FUSHION powered armor that works like the first iron man suit? A.
slight upgrade from what you were already wearing?
This suit was made to go against tanks! Imagine if someone built an armored suit that can go toe to toe against an M1A1 Abrams tank! One man one suit against a 30 ton war machine of course your going to steam roll little lizards and there manicured nails of course your going to eviscerate people into pink mist with there pop guns! YOU HAVE A TANK WITH [censored] JET PACS!!!!!

Wait, what? It's not? A Deathclaw is a giant mutated Pissed off Lizard. Your wearing armor meant to combat tanks and handle whole platoons of soldiers by yourself. Check the fallout lore. I'm pretty sure a Death Claw couldnt fight it's way into a lone tank, why should it be able to take out someone in power armor?

And for the record, yes. You ARE wearing a tank.

@oggie221

Except, the kids whining for another shooter, that VATS in 3 and NV "broke their gameplay", is exactly why VATS is now useless. It's why there is nothing in 4 that's related to being an RPG. It's why there are no longer skills and the game got dumbed down to "here's gun, PA, go kill stuff". So yes, people HAVE decided how the games are going to be played. Unfortunately, it was the kids that won the battle and turned Fallout into Call of Duty in the Wasteland.

The one weapon that sort of broke my early game experience immersion, that was the spray n pray it just destroyed everything in no time and the splash damage could own 3 or more mobs behind cover with well placed shots, so had to stop using it was way to easy for a time being that Tommy gun just owned all.

The Power armor was nice to have for the extra carry-weight but never felt like it was invincible vs the right enemies i would loose hp on power armor limbs in no time, and the random bugs would just ignore the armor and poison me anyway power armor or not.

Well my t45 armour svcks balls against a deathclaw. Two hits and I'm down. That first fight I died a dozen times before switching to a cover and frag tactic.

As for cores every single merchant sells them. Every single dungeon, factory, substation has one in the power plant so they are as easy to come by as .38 ammo. I think I looted 10 alone off raiders.

I even got slaughtered a by a few head shots from mid level psychos so I really don't rate t45 as godmode. Perhaps x01 is far superior but I find them slow and a pain when trying to craft etc. So mine all stay in my power armour museum till I need to take on some big mob I can't handle with my normal kit.

@Alias

You know when I facepalmed? Right after I got into the Museum, got told it was "destiny", and I almost yelled "no, not ANOTHER friggin chosen one!"... right after that it was power armor, a minigun, the game goes full on shooter with miniboss and the deathclaw comes out of the ground as the boss? Seriously??? And instead of the minutemen realizing this power armor was pure gold and wanting it back? oh no... it's yours! WITH the minigun! Shooter city!!!! From there? I would have returned the game but my girlfriend bought it for me as an early Christmas present so I figure 4-8 months the modders MIGHT be able to do something with this garbage.

So you got a completely incorrect impression of it, ran with your assumptions, and just gave up? Cool.

I would say the problem with VATS is not that it is not needed, it's that honestly you can do better without it now. VATS itself gives WAY too low of percentages to hit in comparison to FO:3 and FO:NV. Why the hell would I use VATS with a 34% chance to hit with a sniper rifle when I can hold my breath and manually do it and know I'll get the kill as long as I aim right?

When you start upgrading the armor, you'll see. Plus the T45 is the lowest set of the power armor, the T60 is a vast improvement on it and if you find yourself a full set of X01, prepare to make the wasteland your [censored]. As it should be.

Nothing is quite as trolling as stating subjective oppinion as fact.

1: "bad balancing" and "not balanced properly" = subjective oppinion.

There is nothing wrong with having an oppinion or taste. It is wrong, to assume ones own taste is the only valid/correct one and then force it onto others.

2: It is a valid alternative... as opposed to either A: Not enjoying the game or B: Making the game unenjoyable for x number of other people. Especially if x is a majority.

...

Personally: I haven't played around with power armor enough yet, to make a truely informed oppinion. My initial feelings are that it should be pretty darn bad ass, but too ressource demanding to be in continious use. That is my current oppinion. If a majority of players feel it's too powerfull, not powerfull enough, then it should be tweaked to that to conform to my policy of making the most people the happiest.

Maybe the devs should try a separate approach. Put in a difficulty slider concerning the power of Power Armor. It will take more effort to do, but at the same time it would have the best chance of making everybody happy.

This game has the best portrayal of power armour Ive seen in any game. Period. Aside from having that sixy X-01 from Fallout 2, the suit is truly a man-portable tank. And bringing a tank to a raider fight goes exactly how it should go.

Its got some pretty high upkeep, but I can still manage to keep mine repaired and fueled. Its entirely viable to be piloting it constantly across The Commonwealth. I'm sure it could be said that its unbalancing, since with some minor tactics I can survive any fight, but then if I am not careful in how much damage I soak up I could run low on the supplies I need to maintain it, so there's that economy layer to it.

As my character evolved into a full on Brotherhood Knight with all of the abomination hatred and technology lust that comes alongside it, being constantly in a suit is a natural fit. I did wait until around level 35 to step into that suit, which meant I had a backlog of fusion cores to help me along, so maybe its something that becomes situational when you first get it at the start of the game, but meh, im happy with how it is right now.

I love the idea that PA is super powerful but you need resources to stay in it , it's why for example stars are fun in Super Mario, they make you super powerful but they're just temporary and special. Hopping into power armor for a bit and mowing down a camp of gunners is great but the problem is there's so many fusion cores avalible that you can pretty much stay in it 24/7 and that's just poor design. It should require perk investments if you want to live in the damn thing.

But that's a pretty much general flaw with the game, everything is so readily available. Stimpacks, bobby pins, chems, whatever. Can't wait for GECK to come out.

The point of an RPG, especially Fallout, is to become a bonafide badass. That means being able to open up a king sized can of whoopass on anything and everything. Power Armor does that perfectly. Nothing needs to be changed. Not the amount of fusion cores, not the repair costs, nothing. If you don't like it, quit crying and don't use it. If you think that "don't use it" isn't a good answer, well, I can't force you to be right. How you play is a personal choice. Too easy? Stop using Power Armor. Too hard, walk around in Power Armor 24/7.
