Power Armor values just fake numbers?

Post » Thu Dec 10, 2015 10:47 pm

you can get over 1.5k def, energy resistance or rad resistance with a power armor.

but i think this numers are kind of fake numbers^^

why? if i walk under water with a lead shielded power armor, i have ~1500 rad resistance and take 4 rads per second!

but if i use no power armor and use a rad-x, i have 100(!) rad resistance, but i take only 2 rads/s^^ :o

so why do i take double rads/s with 15 times more rad resistance??

what's wrong with the power armor values?

You figured out the prank!

Cat's out of the bag--everyone who posts here is an employee of Bethesda. We've been watching you for a long time, Blaphon, and we made sure you would purchase a defective copy of the game, just to see if you would catch on. Well, you did! Lol!

Okay, so now that you know the Great Truth, and to make sure there are no hard feelings, we will send you another copy of Fallout 4 with actual working Power Armor stats, at no additional cost! Expect to receive it in 8-10 weeks.

The power armor meter will show the radiation value in the water, but the radiation isn't affecting your health nearly as much in power armor. I was curious about this myself and tested it.

So, no it's not just fake numbers.

You are not actually receiving 4 rads per second, the meter is just telling you the outside rad count. Your character is taking no rad damage in that particular situation.

Actually you do, but its that tiny >1 amount, but you can never be 100% radiation immune.

In a situation where the rads are only 4, like listed above, you are not taking any rads while in power armor.

If you step into one of those places that is totally off the chart with the rads, like those weird puddles in the very southwest corner of the map, then you will start taking a small amount.

Again nope, if you're near any radiation source, you take radiation damage, no matter how high you radiation resistance is.

I've wondered a little about that, too. While both the hazmat suit and power armor have the same rad protection listed if I remember correctly, I seem to accumulate more radiation over time in power armor than I do the hazmat. But, I really don't wear the hazmat enough to be sure so this might just be an errant impression.

My question is..

Why is there plating to add rad resistance to PA when its basically useless considering how much resistance your suit already provides..

This is a no brainer really. Resistances formula includes an exponential component. Its interesting yet looks abit silly when you compare the stats.

hmm... but i actually took rad damage inside my PA^^

i still think, 100 rad-x defense is as good (if not better) than 1500 power armor rad defense^^

You got me curious, I'd really appreciate a pm explanation. Is there some other reason to add more rad resistance to PA?

You're definitely not taking less rads with Rad-X than Power Armor, although the display between the different HUDs might be odd.

DR is really interesting in this game. It's like a mix of the percentage-based DR from older Bethesda games and subtractive DT from New Vegas - the amount of damage you receive is a ratio between the base damage of the attack and your DR. So you get diminishing returns on your defense against weak attacks with high DR vs low DR, but high DR is much more effective against really powerful attacks. So maybe 1000 Rad Resistance won't make that much of a difference compared to Rad-X if you're just wallowing in 5-10 rads, but it'll help you a lot more than Rad-X when someone with a 100 Radiation Damage Gamma Gun starts shooting at you.

Ty, very informative. Also is there really any reason to choose lead lined vs titanium plating?

Probably not, not many situations where you'll be taking high doses of radiation at once I don't think.
