Power Armor: What Are Your Thoughts?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 3:29 am

I basically agree on every point, but I must add that I prefer wandering without it. It makes me feel overpowered.

Another thing: being basically a real high tech exoskeleton, it makes me feel the lack of weapons installed directly ON it, such as laser cannons and miniguns, Warmachine style.

Spoilers? You don't need any to get Power Armor. It's everywhere. You'll find 3 or 4 sets just running around. Not to mention, the sets you can get from running quests.

It's obvious to me, the game really wants you in power armor.

And it's svcks, IMHO. Not the PA, but the fact the game i pushing it on me. I play stealth chars usually. PA is worthless to me.

I'm using it for my "Fallout version of Iron Man" character but I'm using the weakest model. Also I don't know where to find better versions.

I've played all the way through level 30 without using power armor in Survival mode, and it was fine. You really don't need power armor if you're willing to do a bit of sneaking.

My main beef with power armor isn't that it's powerful though, but that it's limitations don't express themselves in interesting gameplay, but simply in a drain of resources that I will come across no matter what I do. When it comes to fusion cores you can't even really speak of a resource management challenge, because you can't use fusion cores for anything other than power armor.

Titan Fallout. ;)

I somewhat dislike the power armour system.

You can't take off a layer of armour of yourself, but you can to an enemy armour peice, with power armour on.

Some NPCs should demand that you give them the suit. Why are there these struggling people, who don't want to use power armour? W.t.h?

I can understand not being able to craft in the suit. But I can't ask anyone to do it for me, and I really don't want to see the get in & out animation, every time.

There HAS to be a way to get the frames off enemies & sell the damn things - they're worth 400+.

I want to use just 1 core at a time. I have 46 of them, all split. Grrr. Oh well.

I want Dog power armour. Its about time, wouldn't you all agree?

So frustrating. What were they thinking?!?! They could've gone completely mental with the idea & made power armour for a tame Deathclaw, & ride the damn thing like a friendly Balrog. Omg.

I used it for the first quest, parked it, then after 30 hours of not bothering with it I put it on to mess around with a super sledge while listening to classical music from my pipboy. I just don't see the need to use it and I use a pistol and shotgun for nearly every situation.

I'm collecting suits though...I currently have the starting suit, a full set of raider and a full set of Atomic Cat T-60 that a guy named Duke gave me after I killed him. :P

I'm loving it now, after i only just realised you can let followers wear it.

Now i don't have to fast travel all the way back to my base and back when i want to use it.

I love power armor. I love its unique interface. I love the unique modifications that can be made to it. I love that it's not as agile as being out of the suit. It's more or less a mobile tank, which is what power armor is meant to be. BGS did a phenomenal job over just the armor with a requirement in Fallout 3. My only criticism is there are not enough variants to quench my thirst! I want more!

After utterly destroying Power Armor in Fallout 3/New Vegas, it's nice to see it come back in style.

I'm up to Six Frames and five complete suits - three of which are admittedly Raider suits, but still. At this point I'm torn between building an Iron Man style Armory or putting suits around the map so there's one nearby if I need it.

To con 3; you can retrofit power armour for multiple things; auto-inject stimpacks, jetpack.. And a built in stealthboy whenever you kneel.

You can only use one mod like this at a time obviously but i like it - having multiple suits of specialised power armour

I really dislike the fusion core requirement. Not only is it lore breaking to need to refuel power armor every hour (a charged suit is supposed to last 100 years), but it's not really needed. I think power armor would have been balanced just fine with only armor damage since the better your power armor, the more expensive the upkeep, and power armor gets damaged fast. I think the need for fusion cores is an unnecessary headache that ultimately discourages its use.

Outside of that I enjoy using it.

I absolutely HATE the power core system. I don't need the power armor for its abilities and utility it provides, but it is the ICONIC part of fallout. power armor is to fallout as the lightsaber is to star wars.

thank god for console commands and the ability to add power cores at will.

I really like the way the new PA handles and acts. it feels more like wearing a heavy suit of armor then in the other fallout games. Butt...I never use it. Times when I could have needed it I did not feel like running all the way to the bottom of the building I was in to get outside and fast travel back to my base to get it. I'm playing on hard and went into a building for a mission and all the enemy's died pretty easy using my combat armor and 10 mm pistol. Got to the top floor and ran into a mob with a name that had a skull. Was a tough fight but dogmeat kept him busy till I pumped enough rounds in him to kill him. I did go back for my PA once when I found a supermutant behemoth. It kicked my butt anyways even when I nailed it with a mini nuke first. 8(

Love, love, love, love, LOVE.

Oh man, do I love it. I love everything about the Brotherhood in this game. They're giant jerks, but nothing beats taking on a tower full of super mutants with air support from a vertibird. They do feel a bit space marine-y, but I absolutely love that about them. I built my entire character around being a giant, smashy power armor guy because it made sense with the character's prior military experience.

For all the complaints about power cores, I manage them fine. Vendors sell them for like 500 caps or something. If you're smart about your caps one dungeon run or two will earn you that.

I've only really used it three times.

1st was in the introduction when breaking out from teh Museum of Freedom. Later on, when wandering the Glowing Sea, it was helpful the first time I went. But on return visits I just took the hazmat suits I found. And later still, when we did that tunneling mission in Goodneighbor, I wore the X-01 half-suit I found down there through the entire mission simply because Mirelurks are serious pains in the ass. Especially in such cramped confines.

On my new character i have joined the Brotherhood of Steel, so ofc i use it. I also think its amazing with the pain train perk. Just sprint into people and knock them over, then finish them off with my super sledge. So yes i like it.

The power core drains really quickly when you are overloaded too.

Got to love it when people complain about needing to refuel 200+ year old powerarmor with the claim that it's power supply lasts 100 years.

Never mind that most of the cores you find are either plugged into generators or functionaly sitting out in the open or of unknown origin and also over 200 years old.

I don't like it.

They retconned a lot of lore to make PA this complex and almost essential game mechanic.

Yet a good majority of character builds - especially stealth characters - cannot take full advantage of it.

If they were going to retcon that much, they should have at least provided multiple types of power armor that would make them available to every character archetype.

The balance around fusion core usage is unpolished, too, considering how common they are and how potent PA is.

I like the changes and I tested out the perks for extending the life of the fusion core and it makes a big difference in gameplay. So unless you loot or buy them you can always choose those perks to extend the lifetime. I myself manage to find and buy enough that it isn't an issue. If you are a VATS user you WILL DEFINITELY chew through your fusion cores but since I don't use VATS that isn't an issue for me. What is an issue for me is what happened to all my fuel cores once I was able to build the jetpack. I went from fairly responsible usage with minimal running to blowing through two fusion cores just flying around the wasteland. :D

You are right, a charged suit is supposed to last 100 years. However, it's been 200 years, can it be that those cores you found is in fact not fully charged, since there isn't anyway to charge them after fallout in 2077.

Yes, the gauge shows it's 100%, but you can take it that it's just for our visual sake.

In many parts of the game, it did hint that power is running out, for large factions/organizations. We feels that there are a lot laying around, because we don't have that many users, if we are supplying a whole fraction(min 100 user), then it's in short supply.

There is a nice idea from previous post, instead of having XX cores, can we just charge them all into one instead? holding 1 core with the power to last XX cores did.

Still not very far into the game, but I have only used it once when I had to.

It looks great and feels awesome to walk around as a tank, but it's not the play style I have in mind for my character.

I don't have the game, but it's cool I guess.

Personally, I saw a video where a guy jumps down in it from really high up and doesn't die. It's overpowered.

You get it way too early. It's stupid.

Honestly, I can't wait to try it on while wearing Great Khan armor in an Obsidian Fallout. I cannot stress this enough, I want an Obsidian Fallout.

I can't wait to paint it black, throw on spikes and chainsaws on it, and make it look like Raider power armor... But I digress.

I really like it. It's powerful but needs energy to be used.

I like how it drains power at different rates depending on what you're doing.

I also like how powerful it makes you.

In Fallout 3 it was just a fancy looking armor that was no different than wearing a set of normal armor with better stats and that's not how it should be.
