Power Armour's Power? (With pictures)

Totally agree,

There has to be an uber suspension of belief as the game is a massive break from reality.

The big question is if there are parts, tyres and power sources how comes there are NO working cars or trains?

The reason for all the destruction is basically just the severe decay in human reasoning and spirit! There's enough resources, construction robots and plant to begin rebuilding! Why is everyone still living in corrugated shacks and makeshift buildings using cattle as transportation? You really have to leave common sense at home and live in the fantastical that this game is!

That said though I have been part of a few game discussion forums and many die hard fans look for a reality in them, it is actually normal for people to find any basis in fact in some of these things so my answer is of course hypothetical yet a possibility as to how it is supposed to work, ie my solution is that the terminals are located at the edge of the cylindrical hole much like that of an atomic bomb detonator works, the case is negatively charged and so too is the case of the core, it just needs a pickup point for the positive terminals

lol.. nice.

Well that explains everything! I must have missed the page in the wasteland survival guide about my magic backpack. Whenever I start to question something I'll have to remember: The magic backpack did it !

Lore states that the T-51 uses a fusion power source that will last for a good century or two.

It's been about two centuries.

Do you want to slip in a new core for your T-51 when it runs out of power, or would you rather junk the whole suit since you don't have the equipment or resources to refurbish the power source?

The magic backpack is amazing but very fickle!!

You couldn't strip down a power armour and carry all the components easily without going near or over your weight limit! Yet in battle when a part gets blown OFF you somehow still have it on you...... Though it's not on you, nor is it in your inventory as it adds no weight, but you can waddle away to a power armour stand, repair it and re attach it!!

Why doesn't power armour or weapons wear out in this one either, the amount of time I spent in FO3 having to use benches to repair armour or weapons was immense but in this I can continue to [censored] a raider in heavy armour with a wooden bat and it's still as good as new!! Wadupwidat?

While we're talking realisim vs. lore vs. cosmetics...

Here's something that could be done, and I'd love to see it in future titles. A button that alters the visual state of your gear. Like I hit a button, and I take my helmet off and put it under my arm, lower the bandana over my face, and/or take off my sunglasses. Something that allows the character to assume a more relaxed pose and expose their face when walking around in cities and speaking with NPCs.

It was actually Skyrim that made me start thinking about this. I thought, it would be cool to have the Daggerfall paper-doll system back in 3D! So I could wear a cloak either closed, over one shoulder, or thrown back like a cape. I could put the hood up or down, and could also put on a helmet, then throw the hood up. I loved https://i.warosu.org/data/vr/img/0010/49/1379085294428.png.

1. Someone tops them up when you ain't lookin'.

2. Via the same magic trick that keeps settlement turrets loaded.

3. The patented ACME fusion core autoloader. What, your suit ain't got one?

4. Extraplanar storage.

.....

103. Bostonians are VERY good at planning ahead.

104. It turns out the Sole Survivor's a pretty forgettable guy.

574. I do.

863. No, they don't.

I think you guys are confusing stuff and mixing power armor auxiliary power with operating power. You can enter the power armor without a core and it still works (you get a HUD, can walk around) so it is obviously powered with some internal long lasting battery. But to preform power hungry tasks like running and sprinting you need power core to provide that extra wattage.

If you watch the animation closely when you load a core. After you release the core it "pops" in a bit more, clearly making its connection to the suit.

Hey, I know, lets put the main power source for our power armor on the OUTSIDE! You know, where anyone and their cousin can plink at it, till they get a lucky shot, and blow it all to smithereens. What a capitol idea!!! That will motivate the poor svckers.... erm.... SOLDIERS in the armor NEVER to turn their back on the enemy! Troops that WON'T RETREAT! What a GREAT idea....

Exactly what I was going to say with the addition that anybody and their grandmother can just sneak up and take it out.

Well, not just anybody...... I have so far been unable to pickpocket a fusion core, even with a high agility. (and no points in the pickpocket perk)

In reality, just for the sake of power management, it would make far more sense to avoid a separate battery. Suits would probably be plugged in and charged when not in use. Power cells would likely be internal and spread throughout the suit itself to ensure the various moving parts of were adequately powered. The suits would also require regular disassembly and cleaning, coolant flushes, surface lubrication, oil baths to prevent rust, OS reformats, recalibration, filter changes for air scrubbers, sight-checks on a grid to ensure there are no leaks/misalignments...just so some raider could take pot-shots at it and damage something that could never be replaced.

Not worth it. Body armor. All the way.
