Fallout science, it could be self fitting, making it that much more complicated. Another reason average Joe wastelander should not be able to fix it.
Ah, you forget. Fallout doesn't -have- science.
It has 'Science!'
Anyways, I would like something more along the middle-of-the-road. Perhaps it should require training to use it... (for NPC's as WELL as me)... but there should be multiple ways to learn how to use it. After all... there are mercs using the stuff... there are wastelander 'police' using the stuff. The fact of the matter is, the suits were designed for front-line grunts. Technological marvel though it may be, those frontliners aren't going to really have the aptitude to know how every piece and part goes together. The suits do most the work. That's why they have a neural interface suit woven right into the damn things.
As for looting it? I think that that should depend on the actual health of the item upon the time its wearer dies, or some other method. AKA- If I had to blow the sh*t out of the armor to kill it's wearer... then the armor should be friend and I should be able to loot parts from it. (Systolic motivators, Fusion Core Control Cicuits, Whatever else, for example.) If I did relatively little damage to the armor itself... say... by using AP rounds... then I think that it should be lootable.
Maybe. Who knows.
Really, I'll be happy if they can find some kind of happy medium. I just know that Fallout 3's power armor was broken. And my friend, clever modder that he is, managed to at least fix its -stats- somewhat. There's no way to mimic Damage Threshold, I know... but at least it'll hold me over until I get to see what they do for New Vegas here.
In the meanwhile, happy speculating!
