Power Armour Rules And Restrictions

snip.

Fallout science, it could be self fitting, making it that much more complicated. Another reason average Joe wastelander should not be able to fix it.

Something that always bothered me about power armor and could explain the need to restrict it's access through gameplay... even if you just picked it up brand new off of a shelf, it has to fit for you to put it on. This isn't like a pair off jeans where you can throw on a belt and tighten it if it's too loose, these things are composed of airtight fitted metal components. They don't just have to work with your dimensions, they have to line up with your skeleton, joint for joint, hinge for hinge. Pulling a suit off of a dead body and having it fit would be like winning the lottery. The alternative would be to either have one custom made for you by a skilled technician, or "tailored" to fit you by a skilled metal worker.

that may be a bit too realistic for the game

Every other faction? How many factions are there? But I do see the point now I didn't know rep was just tied to factions because being extremely evil with good karma is like an oxymoron.

@styles I just read the bos review on ign it was for the ps2 and xbox? I thought it was ps2 only. And its only a 10 hour action game with light rpg elements sprinkled in? I can see why its so despised because it is a complete spin off title and isn't the open world free roaming rpg that 1, 2 and 3 are.

heres the list of known factions in the game

of course thats not all of them

I would like power armor to be almost impossible to get the first 2/3s of the game. After that its just difficult to get but its very strong and expensive to repair. So you need to have a repair of at least 80% to begin to fix it yourself.

Agreed. Perhaps one should be able to haul p.a. parts to a tinkerer by the bucket, and he/she will build one for you. Or maybe make it so looted armor is always set to 0% condition, and the repair rate is much slower than other items (like half).

How many of those are joinable though and involve more than a single quest or two and a little dialogue?

I bet I'll be visiting the Gun Runners quite a bit. Should have a large arsenal of weapons for sale.

i cant say for certain
the NCR and Caesars legion are going to be the main factions in the storyline
but im pretty sure that each faction has their own agendas, several quests, etc.
its not going to be just a bunch of NPC's labeled Chairmen member and just have one line

Also in FO3 the character models all have around the same build lol. Except Charon, he was unuaslly tall.

Ah, you forget. Fallout doesn't -have- science.

It has 'Science!'

Anyways, I would like something more along the middle-of-the-road. Perhaps it should require training to use it... (for NPC's as WELL as me)... but there should be multiple ways to learn how to use it. After all... there are mercs using the stuff... there are wastelander 'police' using the stuff. The fact of the matter is, the suits were designed for front-line grunts. Technological marvel though it may be, those frontliners aren't going to really have the aptitude to know how every piece and part goes together. The suits do most the work. That's why they have a neural interface suit woven right into the damn things.

As for looting it? I think that that should depend on the actual health of the item upon the time its wearer dies, or some other method. AKA- If I had to blow the sh*t out of the armor to kill it's wearer... then the armor should be friend and I should be able to loot parts from it. (Systolic motivators, Fusion Core Control Cicuits, Whatever else, for example.) If I did relatively little damage to the armor itself... say... by using AP rounds... then I think that it should be lootable.

Maybe. Who knows.

Really, I'll be happy if they can find some kind of happy medium. I just know that Fallout 3's power armor was broken. And my friend, clever modder that he is, managed to at least fix its -stats- somewhat. There's no way to mimic Damage Threshold, I know... but at least it'll hold me over until I get to see what they do for New Vegas here.

In the meanwhile, happy speculating!

I would like to see PA only obtainable late in the game. By obtainable, I mean you cannot use it or have it in your inventory until that point in time...

Greatest, I totally disagree with not being able to use. Obtain it until late game? Sure. It should be rare (but still attainable early game). In FO2, I could pick up a suit of power armor 10 minutes after leaving Arroyo and be in it.

That's pretty broken too. Getting a suit of advanced power armor early kills any challenge the game has.

For once, im actually not disagreeing with you. I dont have a problem with PA dropping under certain circumstance, but under standard circumstance the only way to kill an individual within PA is to get through the PA, and you can pretty much only get through PA by damaging it irrepairably. ~ unless you are extremely lucky.

WHY DO YOU PERSIST IN THIS RIDICULOUS BELIEF? All you have to do is punch a single hole in the armor and kill whoever is wearing it, then take it off of them and repair the damage. How the [censored] is that irreparable? How? You people parrot this stupid phrase whenever someone over the IQ of 85 points out that there's no reason the armor should explode just because someone shot through it. HOW DOES A SINGLE, SMALL HOLE IN THE ARMOR MAKE IT IRREPERABLE?

both points are valid, if some one managed to fire 1 armor pericing bullet in the armor and kill the wearer, then mugglelover is correct, if as most likely you would need to fire several if not dozens of armor pericing bullets at the armor its gona be blown to [censored].

a .50 cal BMG like the one they're using for the anti-materiel rifle is designed to take out aircraft, armored vehicles with heavy plating, enemy behind up to 3 feet of concrete, basically anything less than a main battle tank. The Power Armor can resist 2900 joules? Marvelous. .50 cal hits with about 15000 joules or more with a single round. Stick that in your power armor and smoke it.

Woo-hoo!

Check out -this- bit of fanatical sensationalism!

Seriously, either guns -really- get your rocks off... or you have some kind of severely warped grudge against the idea of power-assisted armor. Either way, I think it's both amazing... and scary... and I think I'm going to just avoid saying anything further now.

Excuse me, people? Ladies and gentlemen?! Please back away fro m the creature. To refrain from alarming the Mugglelover... please stay away from it's cage, and refrain from using flash photography!

sorry, but Power Armour is sophisticated tech. If it's joints, pipes, or wires get damaged, it will be incredibly hard to repair for someone not from the Brotherhood, impossible even.

Well, I hate to break it to you, but there seems to be an abundance of idiots...

... which means... you're going to be holding a -lot- of grudges. Wouldn't it be healthier, for your own sake, to find some sort of a medium... some... method... of dealing with all of this pent up rage? Perhaps in a... distanced... third-person kind of way... where you don't actually have to consider the retribution of the ones upon whom you unleash your psychosis?

Ooooohhoho... I get it now.

Carry on, good sir and or madame.

yup, in my opinion the Lone Wanderer in Fallout 3 should not have been able to repair power armour without taking it to the BoS.

Must we re-iterate? Please... do not step too close to the Mugglelover's cage! This creature is known to have the sharpest tongue of any creature in the Blogosphere... and has once even been spotted swallowing whole Volkswagens full of school-children! WHOLE VOLKSWAGENS

But no, seriously?

That's inconvenient. I mean... -damn- inconvenient. And I'm one of those guys who tends to be in the 'Make Fallout 3 hyper-realistic' camp when it comes to imagining things... but -that-'s a bit too far.
