Power for Bunker Hill - scripted? or radiant quest?

Note: currently running the beta game. Level 90+ character.

I managed to acquire Bunker Hill as a settlement. I quickly stocked it with extra living space, turrets galore. Installed four large power generators (40 power total).

Recently, I stopped by and engaged with Kessler, who assigned me "Power for Bunker Hill". The goal? Repair/build Power Generators, and it was tracked with a % complete.

So I checked Bunker Hill, and one of the generators I installed was broken. I successfully Repaired it in build modem but that only brought it up to about 51% complete. I looked and looked around for other generators to fix, but I could not find any. Quest marker is pointing to the workbench, but nothign is telling me how to resolve the quest. So I had to build unnecessary generators, it would appear.

Only problem is: I was already at the settlement build limit. Even after junking some detritus I had ignored before, I could only build one more generator (which brought the quest up to about 70% completions. Storing and then redeploying the generators didn't count, either.

So, I junked all of my generators (waste of resources), then re-built them twice, and somehow that triggered the quest completion.

Side note: it is a timed quest - I initially left in the middle because I had two "defend this settlement" warnings pop up during this, and I wasn't getting anywhere (I hadn't committed to junking perfectly good generators). When I did, this quest timed out as "Failed". After reloading I managed to resolve this quest, then get to each of the settlements in time to defend them. Happy endings.

Anyway, I couldn't find anything about this quest - or any like it - online. The search terms are nonspecific enough to come up with too many false positives.

Is this a new type of Radiant Quest that was programmed into the Beta version?

Will I get other similar missions from other settlements?

Is this just a Bunker Hill thing? Was I too hasty in building it up when I first acquired it?

The "power for" quests are listed in the official game guide.

they never appeared beforehand*at least as far as I know) due to bugs, which caused a number of other settlement quests to not work, and which were fixed in the last patch.

Thank you for confirming! It had all the earmarks of a radiant quest, but it's not even in the Wikia (yet), and I'd never seen it in 90+ levels of gameplay:

If you don't mind sharing, I would enjoy knowing what the official game guide had to say about how the "Power for" quests were meant to be resolved.

I've never seen one of these ones before. I've been seeing a bunch of new radiant Minutemen quests though since the latest patch. I had a similar one at Bunker Hill where I had to build up defenses for them (with a % meter like you described), and then help defend against a raider attack. It was a nice change of pace.

Regarding the build limits, there's a glitch for that.

Take a bunch of random guns (like 15-20 of them) and drop them on the ground at Bunker Hill. Then open build mode and store the guns back in your workbench one at a time. As you store the guns, the size meter will decrease and allow you to build more. You can repeat this over and over to lower it more. Just don't bring the meter to below zero, because there have been reports of the game crashing after exiting build mode when doing so.

A-ha #1: now that I know what to call these quests, I have been able to locate articles on them.

A-ha #2: QuantumCurt, now that you mention it, I have been getting a few of the "Build up Defenses"... I didn't think anything of those other than "that's new", but now I guess I know what to expect.

Also, I'm embarrassed to admit that:

1) I knew about the gun drop glitch, but...

2) had inadvertently left ALL my guns in the storehouse of a different settlement, where I was taking advantage of that same glitch. So in this case, I was stuck: This build quest, plus two simultaneous Settlement attacks, meant I wasn't going back to get those weapons so I could do the glitch, without failing at least one of them in the process.

Also, in case you didn't know, the glitch works best with legendary weapons that have lots of mods. Simpler weapons just don't budge that meter very much (which is why one would need 15-20, right?).

I can usually drop the limit by 20% by just dropping 6-8 of my everyday Legendary "walking around" weapons.

God, I sound like a poser.

Thanks for the help, folks!

I had a similar one to you a long, long time ago but the settlement was Red Rocket.

I was a little bemused at the time because somehow my existing generator had been turned to a smoking ruin.

Anyway i fixed the generator, installed more power generation and forgot all about it, until reading your post.

At the time I presumed it was one of those things that came about as a result of me discovering and developing many settlements before being directed to by the Minuteman Quests.

Got ahead of the game, as it were.

But it seems the patch has unlocked some of the stalled Minutemen quests.

Post patch i got a defend the castle version two.

and a

Defend a settlement with a proper quest notification
