do power rooms consume power as well ?

I find my power usage is crazy high compared to everything else. have 6, 3 block nuclear reactors fully upgraded. i wouldnt have thought that something made to generate power in game would consume it as well... but mabye thats just me.

Yes power is the most you need in this game. I could say you need 3 times more produce power than water or food. After you start building training rooms you will definatly feel :).

All these people needing power...

To those who have a perpetual deficiency of electrical power... Do you double or triple-up your rooms frequently?

Probably the best thing you can do to limit power usage is to be very efficient building rooms. Every resource building should be 3x3 (3 wide & fully upgraded). And they should be full with 5/6 Dwellers. If your making new rooms and all your resource and training rooms arn't full then your wasting power.

My base now is 160 pop, with 33 rooms. I hit the breaks with population because I'm worried my old iPhone 5 will struggle too much at 200 pop until the next update or so makes it more smooth.

I have 2 3x3 Nuclear Reactors and 3 3x3 Power Plants and it produces more then enough power, with over 3000 storage capacity.

Also keep it mind, once you get your Power Plants filled with high Special Dwellers, it will take close to a minute to recharge. By the time you cycle through every resource room you only have about half a minute to wait. Add in a few Rushes and you can build up deplenished Power reserves quickly.

I recommend having all your dwellers in your production rooms with 6 total for the preferred special. You can get that with a base stat of 3 and a +3 outfit. If you don't have +3 outfits then you can get by with the +2 outfits and 5 for the preferred special. It only takes about 26 minutes to go from 1 to 2 in a special stat, and about 1h 18m for 2 to 3 in a tier 1 room. As long as everyone is at 6 then that will reduce your time well enough to start with. Like PlayingTooMuch has said once you have all your training rooms and you can swap people in and out of them you can get Dwellers to 7 in their base stat and 10 with a +3 outfit. That makes collection really fast.

I have 173 Dwellers 1 https://github.com/Sharlikran/fsdoc/blob/master/Rooms/NuclearReactor.md and 4 https://github.com/Sharlikran/fsdoc/blob/master/Rooms/PowerGenerator.md for 2400 storage for Power and I do just fine.

sry i feel the question as stated in the title was missed. do power rooms consume power < has anyone done any testing ? no random guessing please. and yes...all my plants are 6/6 w/ max str and luck. my main concern is: is building more plants actually detrimental to me for power consumption.

the answer is tricky to tell but the lights are on so you can assume yes.

A production and consumption graph on resources would help with this stuff you could empty a power plant of dwellers so it produces zero power see what consumption is put depwellers in see what it is, destroy the room see what it is ..... But if I had to guess I would say yes, like I say the lights are on...

The basic assumption I have worked on is every room uses power upgraded rooms may use more power but I have not tested it

I assume the best way to test this stuff is in a new vault where differences are going to be bigger because your room count is smaller so the net effect is greater of any experiment.

See how fast power is dropping in a new vault before you make any changes after setting up the first basic rooms. Time how fast it drops in a minute.

Then upgrade a room see if the power drops faster. If not then upgrades don't effect power.

Then add a new power plant put no dwelers in see if power consumption increases. Time the speed it drops. In the Minuite

Then add dwellers into the room collect power a few times then time its drop over a minute again see if its increased.

The basics of a experiment, If you really want to find out.

i think power rooms do consume power.

in my first vault, i was constantly struggling with too fast power drain.

i kept building more and more power rooms and it never slowed the drain.

at one point, i had 4:1:1 ratio power:food:water. all x3 sized rooms.

all my power guys were spread thin only 1-2 per room.

then in a desperate move i destroyed half the rooms and clumped all my guys together 3-4 per room and my power problems went away.

although, i still prefer to keep my rooms only 1/2 - 3/4 full. the more total rooms you have, the more rooms you can collect from per cycle which means more opportunities to collect the bonus lucky caps.

my current vault has a mix of x2 and x3 sized rooms, with 2-3 in each x2 and 3-4 in each x3 and i am keeping up with demand just fine.

in fact, i'm able to support 161 dwellers with just 8 x2 food and 8 x2 water rooms (i have 30 food and 30 water guys but i only really need about 16), with 2 guys in each one...yet i have over 60 in my 12 x2 power rooms and 6 x3 nuclear reactors. i also have 2 x2 and 2 x3 nuka cola rooms with 20 guys devoted to those (i plan to make more nuka cola another 1x2 and 1x3 and spread the guys out more..but thats gonna cost another 60k caps)

i have more guys than i need, a good portion of them are in the training rooms, i've been rotating them out.

i auspect at 200 dwellers, i would probably only need arouns 120-160 total people on production leaving 40-80 free to go explore but i heard that even just 20 is too much for the game to process, i have not had the guts to actually try sending 80 out at once.

i noticed too, at 160 there seems to be a bit of a time lag stutter when i equip items on my guys, and it struggles a bit on the dweller list when i sort through my guys.
