Power of the turret

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 2:36 am

Has anyone seen any videos of a turrent actually doing damage against a player? How long does it take for a turret to down someone. I remember in the early days of TF2 competive play that there was no need to have engineers on any team because of the simple fact that turrets can be easily taken down, and did not do enough damage. Can anyone give me any insight into this based on the videos that have been released?

Turrets aren't all that threatening if you know how to deal with them in Brink. They are meant to be more of a distraction than an obliterating peace of work that they are in TF2. I would assume it would take anywhere from from 3-6 seconds to kill based on your turret level.

From what I know, they arent meant to be used as killing machines, they are more to deter enemies, block off choke points and scatter formations etc. Then again there are multiple levels to the tournament so they must earn you kills. If you watch the videos on www.brinkthegame.com homepage you can see some turrets in action.

I think there is an operative ability that lets them plant a pod on a friendly turret that then lets them control it. I imagine having a human in control of the turret would make it a lot more dangerous.

that is not counting base defense turrets, which could probably chew you up and crap you out of tooth-filled anus...

Each rank of the turret does 10 damage per shot. The only difference in them is how much lead they sling in a given amount of time.

where are you finding this? And does that mean that a level 3 turret will do some damage if protected?

See this is my problem they have stated turrets will be used more as distraction or deterrent going certain routes and will not rack up kills. I'm okay with this if they balance them out and make them actual worth using. If they are not going to be able to do alot of dmg then they should be very well armored and take a good amount of effort to take out. That way it's like alright they dont rack up kills but if someone passes by it will atleast injure them or keep them fighting it long enough for the engineer or his team to go take them out.

They are used as stand off weapons to hold objectives used in conjunction with mines and Molotovs they are excellent at area denial.

Something I posted on another thread

I know I wish they had more abilities for buffing the Eng turrets. This could make Eng more unqiue and be very important to have Eng specialized in certain things.

For example Eng #1 could be built simply as support with all the buff abilites while Eng #2 is built with capturing/holding objectives with Mines, Turret and Upgrades like (faster response time, larger attack radius, self-destruct, Anti-Hack)

The self-destruct ability incase you were wondering was an ability I thought up for a thread awhile back on Engineers I made where when it gets low on health it self destructs sending shrapnel out damaging all those around. The Anti-Hack was another ability I thought up which I thought would be cool for Eng which when an enemy Operative tried to hack the turret the turrets self-defense system would kick in and begin electrocuting/prolonging the Operative. It would not kill them or prevent them from hacking it would merely do a reasonable amount of dmg leaving them weak and exposed for the Eng or his teammates around to pick them off.

Anyways back to the point it would be nice to see things like this as players could be more specialized and it would add a more unique dynamic to Brink as there would be several ways for an Eng to be effective and help the team.

Turrets are for irratating enemies, area denial, or support fire. Not actually killing someone. Except for the spawn ones which are invincible and can kill you in less than 1 second.
