Powering Lights?

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2016 11:16 am

So I thought I had some bug with my lighting in a little house I built. Two layer home and I put a wind generator on top (since I love the fact that it's quiet). I ran wire throughout the place so power would be everywhere. I added six lights on the top level and then six lights on the bottom level, but noted the last light just wouldn't light up. I kept moving it around and finally assumed it was bugged.

However, just on a whim I decided to make a second wind generator and just attach it to the current wiring and ... the light came on, and it's been on ever since. Now I didn't think that lights actually needed an amount of power, just power had to be there, but apparently one wind generator (or 3 Power) will not power 12 lights.

Is this true or did I just run into some fluke bug or something. Exactly how many standard lights can be on per unit of power?

Thanks.

I think when you hover over items it says "Requires 1" or "Requires 3" or something along those lines....if a generator can put out X and your demand is higher than X that your generator can put out, your lights will be weird.

Just like in real life I guess?

Did you try to store the light in workshop and to rebuild it on another place? Sometimes they get bugged and rebuilding fixes them. Switching the generator off and on also can help, but I hink that wind generators can`t be switched off. They have such option , but it does not work. I have more than 20 lights working with 1 wind generator. I don`t think that there is any limit, they just should get in power area of the conduct/pylon. If you build it outside of this area, the light can stop to work and this is the case when rebuilding it can help.

The lights show that they need power, but without a number so I assumed they just need to be attached to something that is wired, but don't actually use the power. However it seems that 3 power could not light up 12 lights.

I did store the light, rebuild it, moved it all over the place (even upstairs), which cause some weird issues like other lights going off and such, but never could I get the wind generator to light up all twelve lights at once. Add the second generator and never a problem since.

I've seen other people with settlements that are all lit up so if there is a power to light ratio needed I assume someone's figured it out.

Lights are so weird. I wired my whole shack and then moved it over a little bit to the left... all my lights went out. I had to pick up and set back down all the conduit pieces.

What kind of light did you use? Just interesting to try it.

Those lights that show that they need power (without a number ) should get in power area of conduct. You can put a wired conduct on the ground and build some high tech lights around or above it. I use conducts under my houses. It`s nice because no wires are hanging around when you create a line on the ground. A conduct has power area around it, more like an invisible circle. So it`s not necessary to attach lights to something that is wired.

Yeah I was using the hanging light. Looks like a regular light bulb on a wire. Just trying to get some light in the house, not do anything fancy.

I once powered all the houses in Sunshine Co-op off of one small generator that was stored inside the outhouse next to the mess hall. I don't remember the total number of lights, I think 4 per house, the mess hall had more, but there was no spot lights which have a requirement of 1 power. Sometimes some lights wouldn't work, I scrapped the non-working ones and placed a new one.

Oh , sorry, I meant LeBurns. :)

But if you move a shack, than conducts either stay where they were, or they can loose wires.

I just tried to build a lot of light bulbs on a tent in Starlight. It has 1 conduct on the top connected to a wind generator. Managed to build near to 60 bulbs, all worked. But my size bar went full and I can`t build anything else in this settlement now :D.

There is a glitch that could be at fault http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1593656-lightbulbs-not-illuminating/

Ok, sounds like a glitch then. Just seems odd that it would start working after I added another generator though.

I may try some of the other light types to see if they are less buggy.

Thanks!

I've had weird issues with the hanging light bulbs, overhead fan lights, spot lights and the revolving disco light (can't remember its exact name). Sometimes when I return to a settlement, they're not working, I go into workshop mode, turn around and they work, even after I exit workshop mode. In the case of hanging light bulbs, I've seen them completely disappear at times, and then reappear when I return. I've had no issues with the newer high tech lights that are unlocked from one of the issues of Picket Fences. I'm gradually going around to my settlements (20+ now) and replacing bare light bulbs with the high tech ones.

Only real issue I have, is I can't figure out, how to hang those industrial lights upside down on PC. I've seen it on a lot of factory buildings, yet when I try, I can only rotate them around themselves. Tried everything by now (I think) so given up by now *sigh*

I've had the searchlight under turrets to go out from time to time. Turning off / on the generator usually fixes it.

Just FYI, vanilla connectors supply ambient power in a 4x4 (Ver/Hor) square. Basically 2 floor squares in each direction and 2 floors above/below.
