Interesting. What's the story behind it? Duck and Cover: The site for all your Fallout needs since 1998

.........what the? :|
The sky and fog are a great touch and I like the buildings too, but what's with the guy conducting (looks deliberate) electricity?

The background and atmosphere of the art is wonderful for a Fallout like game.

If you are trying to keep us guessing on what is going on, you are doing a good job of it with the title and guy in the foreground.

Well either he is absorbing electricity (kinda unlikely, I would guess that the powerplants are offline and the majority of cablelines are destroyed) or he is giving, maybe he have connected his own cables to a hideout and are testing to see if it is possible to divert power there, maybe later on he will attach his own minipowerplant. guesses guesses guesses Image

I was always under the impression that the electrical grid in fallout contained trace ammounts of power. It just seemed to me like there were alot of lights and electronics for there to be no power. And generators just don't seem that likely as there's no fuel to run them. Of course it leaves the question, how do they generate power in the wastes? Solar power? Atomic Power? Methane from Brahmin Shit?

They can power generators with micro fusion cells or small energy cells, like the ones used for weapons and cars, atleast I think it should be powered by that.... kinda stupid if it can't be powered by that -.-'

Atomic power is used in Gecko and at the Enclave base (I think they used it atleast) I also think that vaults uses it. Solar power should be very useful but I don't think that small villages will be able to manufacture them, maybe BoS will be the only ones to have them. Windpower and energy cells driven generators is probably the things that villages/towns use if they don't have connections to anything else. Could be a chance that IF BoS have solar power then MAYBE they would be able to trade it for food etc. Image

Thanks for posting the Art Serge. Some Constructive criticism that can heighten realism: Based on my childhood experience of the non pro$perous side of the bank and warfare model and the fact that my father is a civil engineer who had to design building specs that have to withstand direct rockets red glare and yellow artillery hits, the concrete in the building should have some iron beams and metal mesh hanging after the destruction.

Also, the destruction of the ground should be more severe( sink holes in some areas and raised asphalt earth chunks in some others) The only Nuclear weapons ever deployed in a war were exploded 800-1000 ft in the atmosphere but if there were an all out war, you have a higher probability of ICBM's hitting the ground directly and affecting structural integrity beneath your character's feet.

It may be harder to design from a gaming perspective but it adds to realism and can be used as a several plot devices.

There is not enough ground destruction in the wastes(1990's isometric game engines did not have the technology to properly display the realism needed but that should not be too much of an issue today)

Also, for the designers, since the ground should display chaotic damage, the severity of the destruction in some places would inevitably lead to instability that should be used as a probability based characteristic of the game environment.

The wandering survivor should not automatically expect the earth underneath their feet to stay where it is whether or not he/she is walking above it. A massive amount of Exploding nukes "may" effect the Earth Geologically, especially if an overwhelming number hit deep within one area to destabilize it(Think along the terms of the tiny slivers that link continents and if they are severely struck, not likely but "possibly" leading to Earthquakes....It would be cool from an immersion perspective)

I like all those wires (even though that doesn't scream post nuclear to me...), the fog (pretty neat) and the car style (though it could be more wrecked and rusty). Overall I'd say it needs more damage, more desolation and way less, less, less "whats-up-with-that-greenish-tesla-dude".

It seems that nobody noticed the letters of a building in there. What does CK stands for?

Anyway, great concept art. It's just getting better every time I see the Game (sort of). Image

Here's hoping for a Beatles-themed quest on V13.

Well IF we'll compare it with "Capital Wasteland" from everyone-knows-what-game, it was made pretty clear there that some power lines are still active, so I guess it's indeed something like in the microfussion cells and stuff, or some automatized power plants not caught in blasts(notice that factories and stuff in everyone-knows-what-game were often operated by robots, so if not the blast damage they could still operate aswell).

OH well enough about that, nice image, just like people mentioned before me - that guy looks eewww there, and the car looks like it had just a lil crash.

I totally agree with Farid_Yared...nice job explaining that...

Just wanted to add about power plant and etc...so what about coal power plant...you could rebuilt that you only need iron scrap and a blacksmith - a little rough description but I didn't want to go in details...also what about Hydropower Plant...it would work if there is still water and some engineers to fix it...or for example an old steam locomotive that has a dynamo attached to one of the wheels...this could power a small area...it's very simple just backtrack in history when there weren't any computers or chip, just steam age...

One last thing that guy in the picture looks like a Tesla soldier powering a Tesla coil.. :D Its better to live 3 days as a Lion, then spend the rest of your life as a hyena!

The car in the foreground looks a bit like a Crysalis Motors Highwayman...? (* Did I spell that right???) :D If you see Metal Maniac, let him know I'm looking for 'em.

Obviously, there must be an area, SOMEWHERE, that the nukes may have missed. How, would CHINA, chinese communists, come up with hundreds of nukes to hit EVERYWHERE.

There are missed spots, like Pittsburgh, according to fallout information.

Don't forget in Fallout Games there's also fission and fusion nuclear energy, so like robots and machines, for example, could run for a lot of time without replacing their batteries.

...I can't help but think, though, that that is definately the wrong way to power your walkman. ;D

I think it would be great if you could actually get a power like that in-game as a player character, to absorb electricity from the enviroment to power your weapons and power armor. Although, it would be difficult to balance that sort of thing, so I think that's more likely a bad guy about to unleash a can of whoop on someone. I can imagine wandering through a city and taking a few shots at what looks like a raider with a wierd backpack, and then you see him do that and it's like, "oh, it's ON!"
