Me: Can I have one of those pistols?

Burned Man: No.

-aims fatman-

But...a mini nuclear explosion could blow up the only known cache of M1911's in Utah! NOOOO!!

The last thing we need is a ghoulified version of the Burned Man. We'll all be doomed

Hey, at least he would have the burned flesh fall off.

We still don't know what the M1911 will be chambered in. There are 5 possibilities, I suppose:

1. 9mm. There is a slight chance it will be in 9mm. I doubt this will be the case, since there is little room between the 9mm and the 10mm pistols, where such a weapon could slot. M1911s have been chambered in 9mm (as well as other rounds) IRL, but I really don't think this will be the case.

2. 10mm. The weapons could be chambered in 10mm, slotting it in a range above the 10mm pistol, but lower than the .44 magnum. This seems to me to be the most likely route, but rationalizing two pistols, with similar barrel lengths, having any reasonable difference in damage is a tough thing for guys like me. Still, I believe this is what we'll likely see.

3. .45ACP. It is possible that the .45ACP cartridge will be added to the game. If this were the case, it *should* slot in somewhere between the 9mm and 10mm rounds, almost at the level of stock 10mm. This seems a little counterintuitive, since there would seem to be little reason to introduce the new weapon if it simply mirrors one already in the game. Of course, realism could be ignored, and the round could be positioned as more powerful than the 10mm, ala how the shorter barreled Police Pistol does more damage than the longer barreled .357 Revolver using the same ammo. I consider this an unlikely scenario, since either changes to the ammo availability from vendors and loot will have to support this, or, as a way to balance the more powerful weapon, ammo will be somehow limited to the DLC only, with some means to collect limited stocks after completion.

4. .44 Magnum. There is a very slight possibility the weapon could be chambered in this round. Semi-auto pistols have been chambered for the .44 mag IRL, but realistically speaking, the M1911 frame really isn't strong enough for the round and rimmed revolver rounds usually have some serious drawbacks when used in semi-auto pistols. While it is a remote possibility, I seriously doubt we'll see this.

5. .40S&W. A final possibilty would be to implement .40 caliber ammo as a sub-type of 10mm. This could slot the weapons between the 9mm and the 10mm, with a decent amount of plausability, and allow the use of a low-powered ammo sub-type in 10mm weapons. While not completely realistic, it's not outside the realm of possibilties, seeing as how some degree of artistic license has to be expected since it is a video game. Likelyhood of this is extremely low.

I agree, this man must be taken out before he destroys all the M1911's.

One of Obsidian's programmers was a tank driver in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and later deployed to Iraq in the early 90s. His issued sidearm was a beat-to-hell Ithaca M1911. If you know your M1911 history, that should give you an idea of how old it was.

well i got to admit i had to look it up and i'm not a expert in guns "Ithaca (M1911-A1): (Return to top) Ithaca started production in December of 1942 and was the only established firearms company to produce 1911A1"

and yes that is a old gun hehehe pré WWII

tho mine was not this old corse mine was from the earlly 60's

"The Walther P38 is a 9 mm pistol that was developed by Walther as the service pistol of the Wehrmacht at the beginning of World War II. It was intended to replace the costly Luger P08, the production of which was scheduled to end in 1942."

so yes they started production of the P38 a lil sonner than Ithaca(M1911-A1)

Damn you Americans, getting to own guns. only gun i have shot is a pissy little 22. rifle
Here in australia were not even aloud to own a paintball gun without a license. Were not aloud to own a handgun or any kind of machine gun and for any kind of rifle we must have a good excuse for owning it E.g lving on a farm to protect animals from preditors.
Well, i guess it makes sense not to give a nation built buy convicts any firearms....

In english we call that engraving. Some of the engraving work on shotguns is incredible. I don't recall, but does Dinner Bell have any engraving on it?

Good point.
Besides, according to the path they took in their earlier developments (i.e. police pistol & automatic rifle), there will be no new ammunition types.

i'd rather see a new subtype added, like 10mm+, or new handloads, for new weapons. there's a lot more possibilities there instead of completely new ammo.

i'd like to see more handloading options, like making light load ammo that uses less resources, and so forth.

The full weight of the United States Marine Corps stands behind the two suggestions proposed above. (well, at least one old salt)

Quite apathetic toward the new pistol. It looks pretty much identical to the 9mm Pistol already in the game. Hopefully there's some new Energy and Melee Weapons as well as some cool tactical armor like Joshua's.

And, by Melee Weapons, I don't mean the worthless tribal clubs and spears we can likely expect.

If it has a crit chance multiplier of x2 I'm all for it! I'd prefer a unique Chainsaw with a single blade and a new model/skin, though. I did just start a Chainsaw/Ripper focused critical build character.

That is a fairly beautiful weapon. If I ever start my The Professional character, he'd totally use that gun.
