pre-mature quest updates

hi friends:

just encountered a new issue... 65 hours into a clean and happy install without a single crash. this load order has been working perfectly.


until today - i was running through several quests - one of which was AFK Weye's quest "all that glitters." I'm supposed to be in Cheydinhal on a certain day and follow a courier, or go directly to his camp. I was not in cheydinhal, but moving south towards leyawiin from bravil when the quest update notice came up with something like "i've followed the courier and he's led me to his bosses hideout."

then - the game would crash anywhere from 1-3 minutes after that.


i loaded up an older save - maybe 62 hours and decided to finally tackle the MQ. i rode over to kvatch, and while i was galloping up the hill the same thing - only with the kvatch quest. i hadn't even seen the Oblivion Gate yet when the notice poppped up "i've recovered the sigil stone and closed the gate - i should let the guards know we can retake kvatch."

and then, hoping it was a weird glitch, i did enter the gate and played for about 2 minutes and it crashed.



what would cause quests to give completion notices prematurely? how can i fix this moving forward?

Well the completion notice you got from AFK_Weye is a known issue for a rare set of circumstances that Dwip will be fixing in 2.0.

The Kvatch thing is out of nowhere though. I don't see any obvious culprits there.

The Kvatch thing is from Thievery in the Imperial City, I guess. At one point you are given or find a sigil stone and that will trigger the quest update if it's in your possessions when near the Kvatch gate.

Ok. That's fine with AFK Weye - i was planning on moving my home to Castle Wolfspike soon.... only about 20 mannequins full of gear that need to get moved... oh well. But I can reinstall Weye after it get's updated.

The Kvatch issue is a stumper - I've started the Thievery in the IC quest line, but only done the first robbery. I haven't touched anything that resembles a sigil stone at all yet.

Unless maybe there is some other quest item from another mod triggering it... I do have that bug where the Black Soul Gems from the Cheydinhal Recommendation never get removed, so I consoled my way through that quest and I have 2 black soul gems from Falcar sitting in my inventory.


Any console commands to remove quest items from your inventory? Or a console command to go back in a quest stage? setstage negative value?
