Pre-Order Map Confirmed to Not Be Cloth

Post » Fri Sep 02, 2011 11:18 pm

As long as I can tack it on my wall, it is fine by me :disguise:

This. :celebration: It's going inside a frame, so it doesn't much matter to me what it's made out of, as long as it looks good.

Burlap = Cloth

Like Burlap = Like Cloth

Seemed like a pretty solid connection to me. If its burlap paper i will be quite happy, but all he has said is "heavier material". This is pretty vague is it not?

Let's not take things out of context... the only thing that's "Like Burlap" was worded as "has a feel similar to burlap", which is only referring to how it feels, not what it's made out of.

Burlap has a pretty unique feel, have you ever felt it? It tends to be a rough, grainy texture. The gaps between stitching is very apparent. I can't think of anything that isn't cloth that can simulate this feeling, can you?

They do amaziing things with plastic these days...There is carpeting out now that is made out of recycled plastic bottles. It looks and feels just like cloth.

Burlap, burlap paper, or specially treated plastic fiber...to me, it's all okay.

Regardless, as mentioned above, mine will also be framed.

The whole idea in the pre-order bonus was to get a high-quality map. I don't consider cheap plastic or paper high quality.

It's a "high quality material with a feel similar to burlap". It won't be plastic or regular paper. All copies get a regular paper map anyway.

I honestly can't figure out what the hell it is. They said it "feels like burlap" - implying its not burlap. Then say its "not cloth, but a heavier material" - Implying some kind of paper that somehow feels like burlap, like, i dunno, burlap paper. I tweeted him hopefully he can clarify.

I'd suggest finding a craft store that sells burlap paper, ordering some from Amazon, or waiting for Skyrim (unless you cancel).

Pete Hines recently tweeted (http://api.twitter.com/#!/DCDeacon)

- @lloydo15 It's not cloth, it's a heavier material. And yes you get it.

This is disappointing to me. The whole reason i pre-ordered was to get a fantasy feeling cloth map. Now its being made out of "Heavier Material". What exactly does that mean? I suspect its heavy-duty construction paper. :\

Any ideas people? Just what is this "Heavier Material"?

Yeah, it was confirmed to be burlap quite some time ago.

It was said its a "high quality material with a similar feel to burlap". I always thought this implied some sort of cloth or cloth/paper hybrid, like burlap paper. Saying it feels like burlap would imply it probably doesn't have burlap in it. Not cloth would imply some kind of paper, as does "heavier material". And then the only paper i can think of that feels like burlap is ofcourse, burlap paper. Its a loop :brokencomputer:

Please see the links in my first post in this thread. One links to the original Bethesda Blog post, and the other releases to GStaff's forum announcement. Neither one says "burlap". (Although Gstaff's post does say "burlap paper".)

I thought it would be made of diamonds because the name "Hines" rhymes with "shines", and diamonds shine, so I thought we would get diamonds...

All kidding aside, the fact of the matter is that it was never confirmed to be cloth or burlap. Hines wrote something vague, and you misunderstood it. Simple as that, life goes on, there's no need for a thread about this. I believe that the only reason this thread exists is because you can't accept the fact that you misunderstood something Hines wrote, and now you're blaming him for misleading information.

It's a very high quality paper which has similar texture to cloth. Burlap paper pretty much is the same thing as canvas maybe slightly cheaper or not as thick but pretty frigging close you can get either in any hobby store that sells painting supply's.

This. That's the phrase I've always seen attached to the description of the pre-order map. Which I assumed meant "heavy paper with a burlap texture embossed in it".

If there was a counter for how many times I just seen the word "Burlap," I'd probably be rich. Oh wait..

I'm not blaming him for anything, i want to know what the hell "heavier material" is. I'm paying for the game and taking the pre-order risk of it svcking. I'd like to know just what exactly i'm getting.

Okay, we know that its a "high-quality material w/ similar feel to burlap" and that it is "not cloth, its a heavier material". Does anyone have any ideas based on what it could be? if it doesn't have cloth in it i simply don't understand how it can feel like cloth. Does anyone know any kind of paper with this feel? And for the love of god burlap/canvas don't count, they are made using cloth fibers.

To clarify, Burlap Paper is a mix between burlap cloth fibers, and grinded pulp fibers from trees. The pulp fills in the gaps of the burlap cloth, so it can be inked and designed without having to be stretched like a canvas.

As myself and "ThePudie" said, go to a hobby store and take a look at some. You don't seem to like our explanations, or the official ones, so that's the only real way left so you can know what it is.

For the love of god i know what burlap paper is. The point is is that ITS NOT burlap paper. I want to know WHAT it is. I want to know what the hell this "heavier material" is. He already said no cloth, that means no burlap paper.
