Pre-Order Map Confirmed to Not Be Cloth

Post » Fri Sep 02, 2011 11:49 pm

Heavier material = burlap paper map, THE SAME THING AS FIRST ANNOUNCED

Pete is probably just tired after repeating it a thousand times so he said heavier material instead.
Bethesda can't just suddenly change the products of a contract without committing a breach.

I'll probably ooh and ahh over the map once or twice and then stick it back in the box and forget I ever had it. And I am disappointed the map isn't made out of cloth because now I won't be able to use it as a trendy looking hankerchief. Ah well.

I couldn't careless, I've got it pre-ordered just because I really want the game and don't want to risk it selling out when it comes out.:P Besides in my case I never really use map, I see people framing it but I don't really want to look even more nerdy, running around in a cape throwing balls shouting "lightning!" is just nerdy enough.

It's "I couldn't care less"

I can't vote until you fix it.

It's not the same if it's not an OFFICIAL Bethesda product! :cryvaultboy:

Depends on the printer you use, you could take it to OfficeMax or somewhere and what ever printing company Bethesda would hire would likely use similar equipment.

Frankly, this isn't as big an issue to me as it seems to be for other folks, but being an old-school PC gamer, I'm old enough to remember when the classic Ultima RPGs always included a cloth map (along with Dragon Age: Origins's limited edition, much more recently). It's always a classy thing to do.

All the burlap paper I've seen is actually made of burlap, just with smaller "threads" that are woven much closer together. If it's paper or that waterproof untearable paper stuff that's textured to look like burlap, it shouldn't be called "burlap paper."

That's actaully good news, because you know it's not going to be some thin peice of paper with a map printed on it. Unfortunately, I don't have 150$ to spare for the collecter's edition. I am pre-ordering though

The map comes with standard edition pre-orders.

The OP said the answer to the question was "@lloydo15 It's not cloth, it's a heavier material. And yes you get it."

But what was the original question?

"@DCDeacon I pre ordered a normal Skyrim copy do I still get the cloth map by any chance?"

something that always bothers me is when people say I could care less....Think about that sentence. It's supposed to be I couldn't care less (because you have reached the absolute rock bottom of how much you care) Sorry about that, it just REALLLLLLLLLY bothers me. Anyway it is still probably a cloth like material just not actual cloth. Thicker means more durable ;)

They NEVER said burlap. It has ALWAYS been burlap paper.

http://www.bethblog.com/index.php/2011/06/23/get-a-premium-skyrim-map-with-your-preorder/ says "it’s a high-grade material that has a feel similar to burlap"

Edit: Gstaff's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1204159-premium-map-with-pre-order-of-skyrim/page__view__findpost__p__17961545 from June 23rd, specifically states "burlap paper".

Edit2: On the subject at hand... No, I'm not disappointed at all because having read the original posts concerning this, it was NEVER mentioned to be "burlap". It was always "high grade material with a feel similar to burlap" (first link above) or "burlap paper" (Gstaff's original post).

. . .wah?? Why do you keep saying it was never "burlap paper" if BOTH of your sources say its similar to burlap, and the other says it IS burlap. Are you confused? Typo? I think you mean to say "it was never meant to be CLOTH" not burlap. You should edit your post :shocking:

I don't think of paper when I think of a heavier material than cloth. So it sounds good to me, heavier means better, imo.

This was confirmed months ago. For people who can't read properly, the description was synthetic burlap material. If it was a cloth map, it would have said 'cloth map'.

ETA: And the phrase is 'I couldn't care less'. I don't know how that many people make the mistake on this forum..?

They said Burlap material, which implies its a cloth. What annoys me the most is that i was mislead to think this, and now it seems the only way to get such a map is through the horribly over-priced CE.

Wait, what!?

People are considering cancelling their pre-order because the map is of a higher quality?

No, I shouldn't. Burlap is cloth, burlap paper is not.

Also, if you look on page 3, GStaff said that's correct, so if an Admin/Beth employee says what I wrote is correct, then I'm sticking by it.

NEITHER one of my sources say it's burlap. One says it's has a "feel similar to burlap" (which means it is NOT burlap), and the other one says it's "burlap paper" which is NOT the same thing as burlap.

So having a map made of something better than burlap, but still feels like "paper" is a bad thing? Are we really so anxious for this game that we have to make a newsflash out of everything?

Burlap is a woven fabric. How would you define cloth?
