Pre-ordering from Ebgames

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 11:22 pm

Does anyone know if Ebgames (GameStop Canada) locks in the price for preorders? I preordered when the price for collectors edition was 69.99 and now I notice that the price has increased by $5. I paid the full preorder price plus tax but would like to know if I'd have pay the new difference when I pick up the game?

When you ordered your game, that's the price you will have to pay. If they would charge you the five bucks, they would be in the wrong here. If they insist, you can just cancel your order since they are breaking your agreement.

At least, that is how it would go in the Netherlands.

Call them up and ask. To my knowladge, if you preorder something for a certian price, they need to abide by it. But then again, who knows. Call them up and ask.

I actually called the exact store that I purchased it from and they told me that usually the final sale price is the one I'd have to pay. It wasn't a definite answer so I wondered if anyone has received a clear answer on the topic or knows the pre-order polices. (I couldn't find that info)

I think that the price policies may vary from store to store and from country to country.
From the way you said what you mentioned in your original post, I'm assuming you've fully paid the price at the time of pre-ordering for a collection instore once the game is on sale. I know with the stores where I live, generally when you pre-order games for store collection you don't have to pay anything until you collect the game and then pay the price as it stands on the day of release.
However pre-ordering from the stores online over here, has a different price policy usually. In that if the price fluctuates up and down, you only pay the lowest price it reached when the game is dispatched regardless of whether or not the price is now higher or not, at least from the main online store I order from.

Well, If you preorder anything, you sign a contract with the store to get item x for price y. If this preorder required you to pay the full amount, they cannot change it afterwards, unless there is some fine print saying prices are subject to change.

So if they have such a fine print, you have been told you could end up paying more and you are, well, screwed. If not, they break the contract and you can get your money back at the least.

Not sure if that's the case in Canada as well, but it is in a lot of countries.

I pre-ordered my copy from the Game website here in the UK - I noted that they said if the game price goes down before release I will get it for less, however, if it goes up I will still only pay the price that was advertised when I pre-ordered.

That said, you've paid for the product already (my payment won't be taken until nearer the time) and I don't see how they can be entitled to charge any more - best bet is to call their head office and ask about their pre-order pricing policy. Make sure you get the name of the person you speak to too.

If their policy is to only charge the price at time of pre-order and the store asks for more money when you go to pick it up you can say you spoke to so-and-so at their head office.
