Pre-War

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 4:53 pm

Hey,

Do we know exactly how long we are spending in the pre-war era? (only a few minutes, like waking up, going to the bathroom (creating your character), vault-tech guy shows up and leaves again, looking at the kid and then boom (the nukes hit) and we run for the vault? - I'd have loved to spend some time in the pre-war era (a few hours of game time)....well, just a thought!)

greetings LAX

You can probably dink around as much as you desire until you go check on the baby or whatever the trigger is, but I'm not expecting to leave the house and tour the neighborhood. Chances are we're gonna be restricted to the house for the intro.

It seams to be a purely tutorialish period at the start with restriction, kinda how ya couldn't go around in vault 101 that much until basically the main plot kicked in.

Though it would be kinda cool to take a walk, maybe go get a paper, say howdy to the neighbors, but not LEAVE the neighborhood.

Just for a chance to get some of that cheesy pre-war Leave it to Beaver dialogue.

"Well morning there, Neighbor! Did you catch the game last night?"

It looks like the news of detonations triggers when we 'spin the mobi a little bit' in Shaun's bedroom. Quite ironic when you consider the three rockets! (does the fact that two are missing post-war mean that there could have actually been two detonations in this area?)

With regards to leaving the house, I would imagine that we wouldn't be given the option to open doors until we reach the vault. To back this up, note that when we arrive in the living room to hear the news, the front door is already open and our spouse then runs out holding Shaun.

Codsworth probably did that.

I'm actually hoping for some kind of well preserved pre-war player home that we can clean and fix up, just to get some pre-war vibes going.

I would have loved (well, we don't know if it's in, but it probably isn't) to leave the neighbourhood, too...see a lively town-square (instead of a post apocalyptic dead one crawling with raiders and vermin)

Indeed...though I'd love to set up shop in a damned vault (easy to defend...just put turrets in front of the door - in addition to some cover for guards) or in an old military base/government building (or even better: a robco-facility :) )

greetings LAX ;)

I figure it'll just be the open we've seen that will be actually in the pre-war world with a possible option of anything more being from that Memory Bar we saw in the trailer.

If the kotaku leaks are right (and nearly most of it was already confirmed) we still need a scene of the veteran meeting where your char speaks.

im thinking you can walk around your house and the street out side only as far as the tank dont think the bombs will go off till you get to the vault

I doubt that it will be in the game since its well paced up to that point, you choose your appearance, you choose your special stats via the vault tech guy, you go to see your kid, announcer tells you that the nuclear war has started, you grab your family, run to vault, blastwave hits and then........well we dont know how the vault part happens yet but there is obviously a weapon tutorial part and probably a part where you choose you starting perks (replacing skills).

Its worth remembering that its a male casting script, rather than a leak of the actual script, so while it has proven to be correct in some ways it doesn't have to appear in game in full. For instance I believe there is a narration part on the casting script, which we already know wont be done by the protagonist.

The weapons training might happen IN the Vault as you leave. Remember the Pip Boy in the E3 video? When he put it on he had a Sniper Rifle and a Frag Grenade. Maybe you come across some weapons (perhaps based on your preference) and shoot at some flashing lights or something to get handling down. Maybe even a molerat or..... RADROACH!!!

Or maybe there's some sort of enemies in the vault. We wake up alone, right? Maybe there was a raid, or an infestation of the series most scourged beginner nemeisis's: Molerats and Radroaches.

Wake up, explore a bit, oh hell, giant bugs and rats. Oh look...weapons.

Not necessarily... For the leak to be true it doesnt need to have everything as the content could have been cut from the final protect, but was part of the game when the info was leaked.

In regards to going to the Veterans hall, I don't believe it ever happens since in the trailer the wife says ".... At the veteran's hall TONIGHT"

Since Nuclear Armageddon happens 15 minutes later I'm guessing they rescheduled the meeting at the very least...

"So, welcome to Veterans Hall...I know we're...200 years late, and I'm glad you could...all make it..."

...Only a few skeletons in the hall.

"There's Fancy Lad's on the table if you're hungry...Did you know they're not really baked, but are congealed...?"

(little Storyteller reference for ya)

I would like the pre-war section to be a little longer than shown at e3. Explore the neighborhood, talk to the community, just interact with the world little bit. Give us more of a reason to get attached to the everything in the world before it gets the holy hell blown out of it.

I just had a thought-- I wonder if there are gonna be some people who log ten hours or more, just in the opening.

"If I go in that room, the world goes boom...if I go in that room, the world goes boom...Nope nope, I'm fine out there. Ooh, sugar bombs..."

Seems scripted, so as long as you stay the hell away from the vault, I'm guessing.

Wow, wouldn't that be a cool alternate start? Get your stuff all going, then you go "Well, hun, I think I'm going to take a stroll..."

"Okay don't be gone too long."

Go for a walk, then the thing happens.

"Sir/ma'am! You have to get to the vault!" Cue sirens.

"But...but my family!"

"I'm sorry, there's no time! Go! Run!"

Forever the question of whether they made it or not...

While those who point out that the Kotaku leak might have been cut are possibly correct, ya'll who are chomping at the bit to dismiss the OP by saying "The bomb goes off right when you visit the baby! It was in E3!" are just as likely to be wrong. We don't know how much of the E3 trailer is moment to moment correct, and how much of Pre-War it skips. The "bombs going off scene" could just as easily happen a day or more after the "waking up, brushing your teeth" scene, allowing for the whole Vet's hall bit. For all we know the weapon tutorial could happen there: "Hey Frank, long time, no see! Your gunplay still what it used to be? What do you say we have a little shoot-off, maybe throw some money in to make it interesting."

Personally I don't care much either way (I love all the Pre-War stuff and had a blast exploring Tranquility Lane in Fallout 3, but I'm sure I'll be chomping at the bit to get to post-apocalyptia and won't want to waste time with tutorial sections); y'all would benefit from keeping an open mind both ways and being willing to at least explore the possibility.

It would be a nice touch if there was more to it. Like, Todd was just going straight through the primary stuff just for demo purposes.

Maybe we will get to take our time with it.
