Pre-war time traveller!

Hi folks

So, what do you guys think? Just a bug or a possible hint?

Here's the image: http://i.imgur.com/BKeZhKu.jpg

EDIT: Just watched the footage myself (uncompressed) and the character is really there, not moving.. observing. The last frame he disappears.

I am wondering if it is in the memory den via a play back scene. The womans dress on the same side of the fence is dirty like the wasteland dirty we see in fallout 3. Also the mans clothing lower of the woman looks out of place. May just be my eyes playing tricks on me though and he is holding his hands over his eyes like he is expecting the nuke to go off. At the vault it takes everyone by surprise that we have seen.

Wasn't this already passed around sometime in June after E3?

General consensus was at the time (IIRC) that it was just an easter egg for the trailer. The guy was spotted pretty early on, the connection wasn't made until the showing of the E3 demo.

Yep, it was talked about lots right after the trailer was released prior to E3.

It's probably nothing important. A cameo to fill an empty space or an Easter egg at best. Or simply some vault staff, surely you don't think the suits were never outside of the vaults prior to the war.

Just a engine bug. I think that's the player character being shown there, and since I think he pops up only for a split second I don't think any of the guys making it noticed it when editing. Its happened before even in big blockbuster movies, some animation bugs or something that don't get noticed until you have millions of eyes watching it.

He pops up for several frames in the pre-war shot, where people are running to the gates.

And that was one of the popular theories when this was being discussed.

Producer: Hey lone survivor! Your not in this scene get out!!

Lone survivor: oops sorry boss!

Producer: hey tim can you remove him from the shot?

Tim (the editor): only the last part touching the video to much can ruin it.

Producer: Christ! Fine get it done.

Tim (the editor) on it.

Lone survivor: .............sorry again guys I was just trying to get to the sweetrolls and nukacola table......hey I see you guys dont have glutten free sweetrolls who do I talk to about that?

Easter Egg is my bet. Also wouldn't it be post war time travel. As in the SS would likely go back in time to save his family from the blast after waking up from vault 101 without them.

The SS probably goes back in time to watch what happens to his family after he goes into the vault and they are left topside. He knows that nothing can be changed or it would make the future even worse. That or it's a simulation and nobody can see him.

Either a glitch or easter egg is what I'm thinking. Darkhorse pick is that he is at the memory den and replaying the memory of that day looking for clues/information.

If he's time traveling from the future why is he still wearing that stupid vault suit?

For a second I thought the thread title was about the pen and paper game "Traveler" from the 1980s. Awesome game.

You enter a random building and find a time machine that a ghoul scientist has been working on for hundreds of years, a shoot out with super mutants and raiders start outside the building you find the scientist in.

The scientist catches a stray lazerbeamz to the face and before he dies he explains that he finally worked it out and can stop all this from happening.

You rummage through his holotapes and notes and find out how it works. It sends you back in time in the location you activate it. Thinking that if he goes back to far they wont believe him anyway and put his crazy ramblings of nuclear war down to stress from serving in the armed forces, he decides to go back to the time where he can grab his wife and kid to safely get them in the vault faster than before.

As he goes back to the vault entrance and hits the super time machine button, he goes back in time and sees his wife and kid and tada! Yourself!!!

You stand in shock and say nothing because you are trying to think of what to do now, but before you know it you end up going back to the time you came from without any warning.

Cant have two mr f@#$ faces in the same timeline now can we. Time itself sorted that one out.

Now your back in the wasteland and sad cause you saw your wife and kid but didnt say anything, this quest was made to remind you what you lost.

Another scotch for me i think. ....

Perhaps the whole scene is a flashback he has while in stasis.

MAYBE the sole survivor never actually lived pre-war. Maybe everything was memories given to him as his android body was being built...

my first thought was "woah, this is pretty good evidence that we actually go back to our intro pre war neighborhood" sometime during the story and experience the whole nuclear fallout from a different perspective. The sole survivor, who already knows how it plays out. What he probably doesn't know, hence hes trying to figure out, is what happened after the vault closed and what happened to his family. Or Maybe we experience this through the memory den?

If they WERE recording the trailer in the game, then most likely he wasn't supposed to appear, but they left him in there and probably just called him an easter egg
