Pre-War Vertibird

Post » Tue Jun 23, 2015 1:45 pm

I've decided to post this topic on here, instead of the Fallout 4 forum, to avoid it being buried in 5 minutes.

Anyhow, so I thought everyone would be bashing Bethesda for the pre-war vertibird, but people are strangely silent about it. That makes me think that I've yet again missed something in Fallout 2 and am wrong about vertibirds being an Enclave invention. So, since there's not much info on this topic anywhere, can someone tell me where vertibirds actually originate from? Or is the one in the trailer not actually the same type of vertibird?

No, they were a pre-war design. Though from what I understand they only entered limited service prior to the Great War.

Examples can be found in the Anchorage sim and the Museum of Technology in DC. Though, that might be a Beth retconn, but the Enclave did seemingly have control of the majority of them

I don't think Fallout 2 ever actually stated whether they were pre or post-war aircraft.

According to the wiki Fallout 3 stated they were pre-war prototypes that hadn't yet entered full production which does make it a little convenient that one would just be in the area of the player character when the Great War starts.

The Anchorage Sim is doubtful evidence in general, due to the reports that General Chase made a number of changes to it. I believe the quote states that the changes were not based in reality. In this case I presume it's the general events of the invasion, or the types of troops used, rather than the use of a vertibird, but it's something to bear in mind.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the vertibirds are all pre-war, just used by the Enclave, because they have a lot of them.

Unless they had the capability to produce them in the Oil rig, which i doubt.

A.) You are wrong. The Enclave, being a shadow government prior to 2077, had access to the plans for Vertibirds, giving them the leg up on doing production.

B.) I'm pretty sure all vertibird were constructed at Navarro. But that's just my reckoning.

Maybe it's like 1984, a case of the Party claiming it invented the aeroplane.

Vertibirds were in limited deployment in October of 2077, so having one - especially one in the service of Vault-Tec (A puppet/dummy corporation of the Enclave) - appear in the pre-war scenes isn't beyond the realm of possibility.

Heck, the Vertibird you call in the game proper may be that exact Vertibird, just restored to working condition.
