Precise Landscape Editing

Hi, is there anyone that uses the Landscape Editing really well that can help me? I find that the Height Edit Radius even set to 1 is way too big for some of the projects i have requiring precise land movement up and down. Its making the creation of small bumps or holes to be near impossible without distorting the surrounding area. If i turn on the white background grid view in the render window i can see that a Edit Radius of 1 is moving one square up and down, but that square is probably 8x8 foot square which is huge. I'm finding that way to large of an area and you can see how making small changes is really difficult. So is it even possible to make that Edit Radius smaller somehow?
