My prediction for what is most likely going to happen.

Post » Sat Feb 08, 2014 5:25 pm

Yes, i am not going to play a game because it is F2P. Well, no MMO at least.

Why, you may ask. Let me explain you:

I do not like micro transactions, i do not like it to be limited to something or to pay for everything I want to do out of the line.

I do not want to deal with the most F2P players that are not dedicated to game at all. The best thing that a P2P model provides us, is that the most kids do not have 15 dollars to spend every month. Sure there are some paying parents, but that will still stop the most little kids that destroy the most games with a bad behavior from even considering this game as worth to play. They have plenty of other games they can destroy for free.

Also a P2P model provides us with more content than a F2P model. (If the promises are hold) I do not want to play a static game that just evaluates in order to generate more micro transactions.

So to make it short:

- P2P model works as a fine "scum-filter"

- P2P model can guarantee a steady development

- P2P model rewards players for actually playing this game and progressing. Not because they visit the item store and buy some stuff to keep up with others.

The combat and graphics need a huge improvement. The quests have been pretty uninteresting so far and it seems they have thrown most of the appeal into PvP which isn't going to be very appealing to PvE players. These things would have to be improved for it to be worth it, and also end-game content is going to matter for sure.

It is so funny to see opinion about the game of someone who just logged in and wants to predict future and give prophecy.

and I'm sure you are flaming also.

Ok let me explain this logic to you. You are saying that you don't want to pay extra content so you would rather pay monthly just to play the game? I'm failing to understand the logic here. And for anyone who's played WoW GW, you would see that there really is no difference between the F2P and P2P crowd. In fact I find that P2P players are incredibly unwelcoming to new players.

Please name me one single MMO on the market that has better graphics than ESO? Or well, to make it easier: Name me a single MMO on the market that even scratches the graphics of ESO. There is none.

The combat is also something that feels pretty good. No more targeting an enemy with autohit and casting some spells that find their way automatically. I enjoy the current combat system very much, although it might need a tweak here and there, but we are still in beta.

Also i did not have the feeling of having any grind quests yet. And grind quests are quests I consider as boring ;)

So i actually do not see your point yet.

And yes, the endgame will matter, and thats something we can not judge on at this point. So we will have to wait and see, before we predict anything ;)

The difference between the sub and micro transactions is the micros are the get access to portions of the game, which in a sub you have full access to the game already. The sub is to pay the workers who are keeping the game maintained as well as providing future content on a regular basis. There is a huge difference at the rate at which content and fixes are given in a p2p game vs a f2p. Granted from what I hear right now WoW has hit the skids pretty hard, but head back into its BC hayday and they were constant and at times rather annoying. The community varies from mmo to mmo, but having seen both sides p2p are generally more welcoming actually. I mean have you seen an LoL trash match good lord the ribbings...

EVE online, GW 2. If there is none how come I just named 2 of them right off the bat? You must not experience many MMO's if you think ESO's graphics are the best. The combat in Skyrim was much better and exciting, I was laughing at ESO's combat because the weak AI and just how silly it looked. Also the quests have been nothing but, go to point A here about this big battle that you are always to late to be part of and fight 2 or 3 enemies then go to point B and do it again. It doesn't have to be a grind quest but it should at least be interesting. I suggest you read around outside these forums because so far, I've had the majority opinion.

If that's what you would call an intelligent conversation about the game (besides the trolls like you) then yes it is poison.

It really wouldn't make a difference because players who would P2P would be willing to pay for the micro transactions and get full access to the game and there still would be F2P players that can be convinced to pay for the Micro Transactions. That's why MMO's that go from subscriptions to F2P often save themselves from complete failure.

I have pre-ordered a physical Imperial Version, not only for the digital bonuses but also for the statue and art book and because the game is worth it in my opinion.

I have been playing and paying WoW since 2006 - 2007, and I like the subscription model. I took some breaks during my WoW time and played other MMO's like Swtor and Rift which I also played and payed for but I left every single one of them as soon as they announced F2P and went back to WoW.

I like to be able to earn everything in game by playing, I do not want to buy weapons or armor in a cash shop like most F2P mmo's, sure I am not forced to do this but if I don't I'm set back from other players who do not put any dedication in the game at all and just pay away in cash shop like sweet candy sold to them.

I like to earn my "stuff" by playing the game while also not being set back from other players.

I don't speak for all F2P players but a lot of them actually spend much more money then they would paying for a subscription model because a lot of they're game time they are in this menu with "add item to cart".

Subscription model also isn't expensive at all however I do not have a steam list of over 300 games either, I live alone yes and I recently graduated and I'm able to afford this all mainly because I can save money. Take a single player game most of them you can play out in like 2 weeks playing (I'm not speaking of RPG games like Skyrim here) and they are around €40-50, Subsription is about €13 - 15 / month and you can't play it out in one week, usually you can't because you get updates and new content, WoW is a very good example of this and I'm still playing / paying that after 7 - 8 years of playing.

TES has a very good story and while I was playing the ESO beta I was immersed by it and really felt as I was dreaming and was actually inside the game, I loved it and that's mainly while I will pay and play this game.

You do not need to explain me my very own logic my dear. But let me explain it to you:

It makes an HUUUGE difference if I am paying a monthly subscription fee or if I pay for extra content in a f2p game. Micro transactions tend to become more expensive in a short period of time than a p2p game. Having to pay for extra backpack slots, having to pay for extra bank slots, having to pay to create a guild, having to pay to enter a specific dungeon, having to pay for a special weapon that is just obtainable from the item store etc. In one single month, you can blow out a lot of cash, just to play the same way you would have played the game if it was p2p. And after investing 200 bucks on the first month while playing that f2p game i find out that it svcks. Well, i guess it would have been cheaper if I just had a sub-fee ;)

If you play a f2p game the way you would play a p2p game it will always be more expensive. And why that is the case is easy to explain. Because there is no steady income via the sub-fee. Not every one is using the micro transactions. So the paying players will have to pay for the free players. I do not like that system at all.

Also a f2p game always will have a huge Pay 2 win situation on its side. People that are willing to pay will always progress faster, have better gear and be superior to players that are not willing to pay. I like the idea of a game that offers the same chances to everyone. I like the idea of no gap between paying and nonpaying players.

And you are wrong when you say that there is no difference between f2p and p2p crowds. Sure, there many mature players on the f2p side and also there are immature players on the p2p. But it depends on what is the dominant part in a crowd. In f2p game you will always have more immature kids than in p2p games. That is a fact, as there is no barrier in a f2p game. Why paying a sub fee just to flame others if you can just play any other f2p game out there.

I can afford 15 dollars, or well 13 euro for me a month for a hobby. I pay more for less fun hobbies. Hell, i am paying 25 euro a month for a gym i wasn't at in the last 3 years. THATS a waste of money. Not paying for a game that you enjoy and you can have a good time at after work or at weekends.

And here proves my point concerning you and the thread to begin with. He didn't attack you directly and really made a pretty benign comment. he was basing it off our little tiff, of which I bested you in ;p. You come back with the "troll" comment to him. Why would a person come to a forum and then basically try to ruin his reputation on the first post is beyond me.

The difference is p2p keeps out people like yourself, those who wouldn't be willing to front the money to play the game. In a f2p game it is pretty well known that there are basically two groups, the svckers and the leeches. The svckers are the ones paying large sums of money for useless crap such as cosmetics or for grossly overpowered items so their ep33ns feel really big. The other group is the leeches the ones who really don't spend a thing, they are not attached to the game, they play because the can and don't have to spend a dime because they have the svckers doing so. I think you would fall into the second category, based upon your view of subscriptions. The p2p keeps leeches away., I'll gladly pay.

There's a big difference.
Microtransactional models support that one player paying 100 bucks a month is entitled more than someone paying 10. Having a subscription based model gives everyone an equal playfield and thus making it more equal. I wanna play against someone's skill, not their wallet.

I have noticed a vast difference in quality between players in P2P versus F2P games. People who are willing to pay a subscription are, in my experience, more skilled and polite than those who aren't. There is always a small scummy element in paid games, but for the most part, every subscription-based MMORPG I have played has had a wonderful community. Perhaps this is because every player had specific ambitions for their characters and experiences.

Every time a game I seen a game go free-to-play, the quality of players has dramatically decreased. This game model draws a clueless rabble that, in turn, discourages the good, existing community. Eventually, the majority of players are people with little or no prior gaming experience who have never learned how (or desired) to play cooperatively. They essentially treat the game as single-player---even in designated group activities like organized PVP or random world events. (I care not a whit how you play by yourself, but when you're on a team, play with the team.)

This phenomenon absolutely crippled and cheapened the experience of my current favourite MMORPG, and to a lesser extent, several other games I've played in the past. I definitely understand people who hope ESO never goes the free / cash shop route.

Agreed.

Bottom line, if the game is good, I am willing to pay a subscription for it. I also have noticed MMO gamers in "Single-Player Mode" when an MMO goes F2P. I also despise the P2W (+XP, +HP, +Uberweapon, +Uberarmor) system many MMOs wind up developing as they go F2P.

As far as graphics go, TESO's graphics aren't that bad. If they were old-school like EQ's were BITD, then I'd probably complain. As it stands, these are pretty good.

WoW has hit the skids, and there have been F2P murmurs for a couple of years now. On the other hand, Eve Online seems to be increasing their members, as well as adding additional content/playstyles over time. Personally, I think EON will wind up surpassing WoW's success at some point.

You sir are an idiot. There's a lot of F2P games out there to know what they end up becoming. Nothing is free, it generally makes for unfair gameplay. Just because you're a little kiddy who has no money and is suffering from "free game" delusions, doesn't mean that's what everyone else wants.

We want something to break the chain of this payment model. Go play one of the million other Pay 2 Win games out there.
