Premium Lunchbox Patterns & Cycles

Post » Sun Feb 14, 2016 1:14 am

In regards to the purchase of Lunchboxes I have seen a pattern out of the many I have purchased and wanted to see if anybody else has seen differently/same. My experience has been that for every $20 you spend, you will receive 1 Legendary Dweller, around 4-6 Power Armors, 3-6 Legendary weapons, 9-12 Rare Dwellers, and 17-20 Lunchboxes with the stupid "rare" prize of 500 caps. I have recently bought 1 set of both a $10 bundle and $5 bundle in which I received 1 Legendary Dweller in each bundled purchase. My question is, is there a pattern to this? Do you receive 1 Legendary Dweller in each purchase regardless of the price you pay? If you are like me and only want Legendary Dwellers, should the cheaper bundles be the way to go? Experienced feedback on this would be much appreciated.

I just purchased 5 more lunchboxes today and all I got in all of them was the railmaster rifle, kept getting the 500 coins which I don't need when I have 350,000 coins already.

I'll have to think before spending anymore money on this game now.

Awww, that is truly annoying to hear and yes, I'm getting close to the million caps mark and when half of your lunchboxes are the "rare" 500 caps, it feels like an insult. Thanks for sharing and makes me think that I got really lucky with the batches I've bought so far. Any other experiences?

Well, look at it this way, you are being insulted by the RNG and nothing else.

There is only one established pattern. Each card you turn has a small chance of being a legendary, whether you get it or not is decided by the RNG. If you don't get a legendary, there is a larger chance you will get a rare which is also determined by the RNG, otherwise you will get a standard "prize".

The pattern is on the last card of the lunchbox. The last card like the others is determined by the RNG except if you did NOT get a legendary or a rare on the first three cards you are guaranteed a legendary or rare on the last card. So each lunchbox you open will have at a minimum one legendary or rare in it.

And 500 caps being "rare" is a joke. Have easily earned over 100 lunchboxes and half of those were 500 caps...not so rare indeed!

And getting a "rare" weapon will earn you 100 caps when you sell it. You are ahead with the 500 caps, even though by mid-game you should not need them (but then again, you probably don't need the rare weapons at mid-game either).

Can anyone give me an example of a legendary dweller? I have a few nice characters but not sure if they are legendary..

My suggestion:

Raise price of the lunchbox 5-10 fold. Remove garbages from Lunchbox.

Then new lunchbox will cost $5-$10 a pop, but it will not yield garbages like 500 caps or Formal Wear. It will yield only truely legendary items and dwellers: 20+ weapons, dwellers like Sara Lyon, and power armors, nothing less.

Player no long will be disappointed by such garbages from Lunchbox. So they buy more Lunchbox. Bethesda will earn more money from increased Lunchbox sales. Everybody happy. Everybody win.

In other words, you want to be able to pay to fast track "winning".

If you examine what Bethesda has said about this game, you will notice they were purposely trying to avoid this kind of cash transaction.

.

It has nothing to do with degree of "pay to win".

If you bought few old $1 lunchbox, you already paid to win.

$5 lunchbox does not increase "money factor" in game. than $1 lunchbox. Five $1 lunchbox will have roughly same influence as one $5 Lunchbox. It just reduces "luck factor" , not ability factor in game.

Reducing price of Lunchbox to $0.1 would not make it less pay to win. Just same degree of pay to win.

It is total amount of money spent on lunchbox that makes a game pay to win, not price of individual lunchbox.

$5 lunchbox does NOT make it more pay to win. Just lesser of gambling I would say.

For clarity of my suggestion:

My suggestion of raising price of Lunchbox applies only to "premium" lunchbox that is purchased with real money.

The free lunchbox which are acquired freely in game play will be same as current cheap lunchbox, which is dependent on luck and yields many garbages like 500 caps.

Alternatively, two types of Lunchbox may be sold separately.

One is cheap $1 Lunchbox, same as current one.

Another is premium $5-$10 Lunchbox, which is guaranteed to yield legendary items only. The price may vary depending on rarity of legendary items.

Which one will you prefer?

Now here is somebody else who gets it. Maybe there is no huge outcry because those who want to collect all pay hundreds of dollars and those who don't care don't pay for lunchboxes. Then there is the working person who doesn't have the hundreds to pay (but loves the idea of the game) and is frustrated with the junk from both pay and earned lunchboxes. I've put in hundreds of hours and very frustrated with how little the earned lunchbox chances come now. Then when I do receive them, it's usually the rare 500 caps prize, yes that is garbage once you hit 1 million caps. I don't even have a FATMAN or ROCKET LAUNCHER! Even Fallout 3 wasn't this slow on weapon progression. But still a great game despite these major flaws.

It's easy to tell, go to your popup/VDSG/PIP boy thing (lower right corner, looks like an old fashioned radio) and select the icon that looks like a ledger. Go to the dwellers tab. If you've found any legendary dwellers they'll be listed there. For example, I have found Abraham Washington (twice!), Dr. Li, Elder Lyons (twice!), Lucas Simms, Preston Garvey, and Three Dog. There are 21 legendary dwellers.

Hey has anyone received any Legendary Dwellers from earned lunchboxes after playing for a month and having a 200 dweller vault? The pattern I've noticed is that if you want a Legendary now, you have to put down $20 for 1. Seems a bit steep and I won't be throwing my money at this all anytime soon.
