Making real maps of our fantasy worlds is an Elder Scrolls tradition. As Todd Howard said all the way back in a Morrowind blog post, “There’s something about having a physical object in your hands that feels like it’s part of this other world, that you are that person in the game, finding your way among the hills.”

With that in mind, today we are announcing that anyone who preorders Skyrim will automatically receive a premium quality world map with their copy as a no-extra-cost-to-you bonus.

To guarantee your copy of your premium quality world map, please pre-order today.

By your request, here's some updated info:

Early copies of the game (worldwide) will feature the premium map -- it's a burlap paper and a much nicer quality than the map included with Oblivion. If you don't pre-order, there's a chance your copy of the game will include a map that's more akin to what was included with Oblivion.

We don't have any information to share on a collector's edition for the game at this time. When that changes, we'll let you know.

You are correct sir...but is that the only thing they are going to have? there not going to be a Collectors edition?

Does it only apply to American Pre-Orders? I'm in the UK and I really want a game map to pin up on the wall next to my Map of Cyrodiil, I have already preordered from GAME but I'm not sure if this Retailer will give this bonus. Please help!

I have already ordered but, like the other poster said, does this come with all copies from all retailers internationally or just in the US? I have got mine on order from amazon in the UK.

I already pre-ordered. So I'm set. I'll have maps from Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim by November, basically. I liked the Morrowind map because it actually functioned as a map. The Oblivion one looked pretty, but that's really all it did.

Some clarity on a yeah or nay on the collectors edition would be good too because if there will be one I want it and therefore I will need to cancel my existing pre-order.

Well, this puts me in a bit of a quandry... the last time I pre-ordered a game, the place I pre-ordered from didn't have a midnight release... so I was kind of planning on waiting to pre-order. :sadvaultboy:

What is premium? We should get a better description of what we are getting. Is it cloth, Tyvek, or just regular old paper, etc. How about some dimensions. That offer reeks of marketing speak.

I'm not pre-ordering untill they announce a Collectors Edition. I'm assuming since they are begging us to pre oder by giving us a map if we do than they will not have a collectors edition. Anyway Pre-ordering is pointless unless they have limeted copys of a limeted edition.
