Preparing for upcoming winter of 2015-2016

Post » Thu Oct 29, 2015 9:48 am

So the cold dark winter is starting to show.

Some of us have prepared their closet winter ready, while others are still hunting deals or they don't have winter.

The aim for this topic is to gather together some interesting options for winter depending where you live and how severe cold you may encounter.

Here in Finland a typical winter tempature is about -15 to - 30 celsius. Some parts of Finland like Lapland may have even more (-40 or above is not uncommon there).

I started my clothing hunting in advance:

-pea coat (black, made of polyester and other syntehic material).

- wool gloves (thin grey pair)

- brown leather gloves (genuine leather)

- Black leather like gloves (fake leather, heavy and warm)

- various scarf thingies (shemags, wool scarf, scarf made of polyester)

- winter sneakers

- wool socks ( really thick pair)

- wool shirts and cardigans

- various winter hats (beanies mostly, I have proper soviet ushanka too)

- Snow board jacket (for more extreme weather and freezing cold days)

- padded vest ( mostly useful in early spring sadly)

- padded vest with hoodie ( it is nice when there is less than -5 degree of celsius. Anything above that and i feel cold.)

- Polish army fur coat (when hell freeze, i bring it out. The fur is sheep/rabbit if i am correct. Super heavy and warm. weights about 4-5 kilos).

- choco bar ( waiting a bus in winter time is sad. So few pieces of choco cheers up).

- Zippo ( nice when lights go out and you try to find candless and flaslight)

So how you have prepared or what you still need?

Here on the wet (west) coast we rarely see snow down here at sea level, but damp cold can be almost, if not worse than snow cold. It just seeps in.

I already have all my rain gear, so no need for anything. I ride my bike everywhere I go. Good rain gear is a must.

Well, i live south enough that -30C temperatures are very rare, haven't seen that in years. Just a good padded coat and long johns do the job :hehe:

And long time predictions say this winter will be mild around here.
