Preston and Abernathy is really starting to piss me off.

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2016 8:26 am

EVERY time i go back to sanctuary and even walk by Preston, i get a new quest about how someone some where needs [censored] help and its ALWAYS abernathy, either kidnapped or an other hide out to clear. this is starting to get repeatitive and annoying, because i want to clear out my quest log but these 2 bastards just keeps giving me repeating quests.

I've even set the defense of abernathy farm to 100 with only 30 food and like 12 water. still. constant problem.

The only weird part about that is that you're constantly getting quests from Abernathy, and not other settlements. Anyway, if you leave those quests on the "Speak to Preston" objective after completing the task, they apparently self-complete after a while.

But really, the game is meant for you to have a filled up quest log. It's not big deal.

retake the castle and keep Preston there. get all settlement quests to the point of "talk to Preston" and just leave it that way. all will be quiet on the radio and as long as you don't talk to preston the radiant settlement quests will be on hold. If you talk to him one of them will turn in and you can get another. this is how i control how many i do.

I learned early on not to "turn in" the completion of these quests until I was ready to get another. Interestingly enough, sometimes I don't get another for a while after I turn in a quest.

Not wierd at all. The algorythm or whatever is behind the radiants, loves to repeat itself. Same location within an hour. Nothing to clear out left, only a lonely hostage sitting in a room I just left. I find it most annoying that I got presented with Sanctuary radiants constantly. "Your're with the minutemen, right?" is really starting to get on my nerves. I frigging built your settlement and all my companions are here, so yes, I most likely am.

once you retake the castle the radiants will favor undiscovered and under developed settlements. The minutemen headquarters was never meant to be in sanctuary.

But Sanctuary is neither underdeveloped nor undiscovered. Defense rating well above 100, water production 390 and food production 60. Level 3 shops and power above 100. So, no, it obviously doesn't favor the above.

Reading peoples posts, it seems like the best thing I've done is to not talk to Preston.

No constant raids hitting Sanctuary and no constant search and save recurring quests. I can happily concentrate on building.

I can't even do that. Preston bugs out on me with every character, once I take the castle. He's waylaying me to hand out his radiants, accepts mission accomplished, but other than that I can neither recruit him, nor equip him, nor send him anywhere. He's there and that's about it.

Not an option. If you so much move as in shouting distance, you get your radiant. And Preston moves a lot. Avoiding him isn't tat easy.

Yes, I actually am considering ditching my level 40ish toon just to avoid preston.

If you have Preston as a companion, I would just clear out the location I was sent to, and not even report it back to the settlement. This way I can still talk to him without another task coming up. I believe that as long as you clear out the target hostile that there won't be any time-limit issues. Yes I know, who wants him as a companion? But his perk seems decent considering how many enemy swarms there are in the game. Can't wait till I'm done with him so I can start travelling with Hancock though :)

I found that if I talk to Preston and get all current available radiant quests (usually 3 of them) so that he won't hand out anymore, I can then ask him to be my companion.

In your next game, leave him in Concord. You can still build settlements, have sometimes (!) a quest from settlers, but not all the time. Much less annoying, IMHO

Look although at this thread

Just do what my bestfriend did, kill them. Preston will get mad, but he won't send you to do quests there anymore. Killing all the settlers in a settlement actually makes it so he can't send you on quests there. Also, if you run away from Preston as fast as possible after turning in a quest, he can't give you another one.

My trick is I turn the quest and just hes about to give me the next quest I run away :gun: Then I avoid him like influenza. The quest I turn in completes and i get rid of any others

I kept getting that same quest too. I did it three times before just ignoring it.

Now I have a "kidnapping in Sanctuary Hills" quest to complete. The quest? Raiders kidnapped a settler. They're holding him at the Federal Ration Stockpile. It's literally the exact same mission but in a different settlement. This is really getting old.

A lot of people have offered tips on how to stall all of the freakin Minutemen quests. Getting them to the point where it just says 'Talk to Preston' will prevent new ones from coming up. I'm currently working on maxing out Preston's affinity for me so I can get the perk. Once that's done and I've unlocked all of the settlement locations, I'm done with him until the main quest coincides with him again. I'm traveling with him right now for the first time since starting the game. He's the most utterly worthless companion so far. I've traveled with Dogmeat quite a bit, and I've traveled Piper, Cait, and Curie enough to max out their affinity. They all have their own flaws, but Preston is worthless. Half the time I can't even find him because he's running off somewhere.
